There are no short-cuts with deck building. First, they build the foundation, then the frame that supports the deck, and complete the finish work. A carpenter must use every skill they possess to build decks. And then, the railings, stairs, and planter boxes take real skill. 4 by 4’s are appropriate if the span is shorter than 8 feet. In some areas and states, your foundation must be dug 30 inches below the frost line. Unfortunately, almost every deck needs a permit. T&T Decking confronts the rules with a challenge. They simply overbuild their decks. This is their building process. Instead of 4 by 4’s they use 6 by 6’s. Instead of 30 inches deep, they go past.
