MOTIVATION
Effective resource management
In many production companies, tools, equipment and other resources play an increasingly important role. Tools are, in addition to wellmaintained machines and qualified personnel, a guarantee that high quality products can be made on time and costeffectively.
The HYDRA module Tool & Resource Management (WRM) provides comprehensive functions to manage and organize tools, equipment and other resources effectively, that are used directly or indirectly in the manufacturing process. HYDRA WRM provides information on the current technical condition of resources and their availability in order to reduce avoidable downtime and waiting times. The individual parameters (e. g. status information, storage location, service life, wear degree, maintenance activities) are tracked, logged and displayed transparently for the entire life cycle. The functions for preventative maintenance complete the performance spectrum of HYDRA WRM and contribute to the obsolescence of manually recorded, faulty tool books.
APPLICATIONManage and plan resources, collect and evaluate data
In contrast to the classical tool management, the integrated mode of operation of HYDRA WRM offers enormous benefits for the employees in tool making, maintenance, production control and work preparation:
• Management of different resources, e. g., machines, tools, devices and measuring and test equipment
• Taking into account resources during detailed planning and production control• Flexible maintenance calendar to plan maintenance activities• Preparing and planning maintenance orders• Providing information for operators and fitters on the shop floor terminal• Automatic recording and posting of tool data• Displaying uptodate maintenance information• Documenting resource usage and preparing an electronic tool book• Detailed evaluations giving personnel a base for improvements

Benefits of an integrated resource management
Using HYDRA WRM together with other MES applications, creates valuable synergy effects and advantages:
• Simplified collection and posting by linking resources with workplaces• Inspection of resource availability during detailed planning taking into account
scheduled maintenance activities• Used tools and other resources are documented for further use in traceability
applications• Automatic posting of tools with cycles, times and quantities, which were determined
via the machine or using operating data acquisition• Generating maintenance orders, which can be considered during the detailed
planning phase• Detecting correlations between the product quality and resources used
INTEGRATION
TRANSPARENCYOverviews, reports and evaluations
The data that is collected for tools and resources is processed via the stored processing regulations, which are then available in a compressed format such as reports or analysis. They are also available for long term archiving:
• Resource overview containing an outline across all resources• Status overview to show the current usage and availability of tools• Assignment plan with a display if a resource is required• Documenting all activities with a particular resource, including its current usage• Long term archiving including historical data from the electronic tool book
FLEXIBILITY
Master data and configuration
HYDRA WRM allows an extensive amount of configurable options to comprehensively show the state of production relating to resources. This also means that complex tools are routed through the relevant piece lists in the MES:
• Creating and maintaining master data for tools and resources including storage locations and related documents
• Extensive resource configuration including hierarchical representation of multipart tools (tool piece list)
• Displaying the tool piece list and a summary of resources• Functions for multicavity tools and required resources• Configurable dialogs on the shop floor terminals for operators and fitters including
a notification to carry out a maintenance activity• Generating maintenance orders from the maintenance calendar if certain
maintenance intervals have been reached• Configurable escalation management• Specific for plastic producers: recording and evaluating data relating to cavities
Needsbased, tailormade MES applications
Every MES solution is as individual as the company using it. An MES must be of a modular design and largely configurable in order to turn fieldtested standard functions into tailormade solutions.
Extensive requirements covering all business sectors and levels must be considered: From userfriendly collection and information functions for operators to reliable statistics for the management.
The examples for HYDRA WRM applications illustrat ed in this brochure are a combination of standard MES products by MPDV. These products, characterizing a stateoftheart MES, can be selected needsbased and integrated without interfaces:
• Shop Floor Integration Services: Interfaces to machines and production lines plus data collection and information functions for operators
• MES Applications: Powerful programs to process data and functions for data maintenance, detailed planning, monitoring and controlling
• Smart MES Applications: For usage on mobile devices and in web browsers
• MESCockpit Applications: Dashboards for general KPIs
• Enterprise Integration Services: Basic functions and interfaces to seamlessly integrate the MES into an existing IT landscape
