1.1 The Mahatma Gandhi Labour Institute was established by the Government of Gujarat in 1979. It has been constituted as a Society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 in order to undertake activities relating to education, research, and training in labour and related subjects. Members of the Institute represent workers' organisations, employers' organisations, and the Government of Gujarat. In addition, the Institute's members include a representative of the Ministry of Labour, Government of India, the International Labour Organisation, New Delhi Office. The Institute's activities are funded largely by the Government of Gujarat.
1.2 The Institute's library has large stock of materials (books, journals, films, video cassettes, etc.) on various subjects including economics, management, industrial safety, occupational health and environment.

2.0 FacultyIn view of the variety of subjects to be covered, inputs to the post diploma programme by members of the Institute's faculty will be complemented by drawing upon experts and professionals as resource persons.
3.0 The Programme
3.1 The objective of the programme is to enable a person to acquire the knowledge, skills, and perspective necessary to contribute effectively to the industrial safety function in a large/medium- scale industrial establishment.
3.2 The programme represents a full time one-year course of study commencing ordinarily in the month of August. The first term will be of 14 weeks, the project work will be of 6 weeks and the second term will be of 14 weeks.

Will be eligible to apply for admission. Admission to the programme will be offered to candidates on the basis of their performance at an interview conducted by the Institute and of evaluation of their educational qualifications and work experience.
3.4 The programme will include :(a) Eight subject teaching courses,(b) Project work; and(c) Participation in industrial visits, seminars, etc.:spread over three terms from August to April (1) 1st term 14 weeks; (2) project term 6 weeks; (3) 2nd term 14 weeks.
3.5 Out of the 8 subject courses, 7 are compulsory.
Qualification Required Experience
8. A student will have to choose the ELECTIVE subject from amongst the following :(a) Advance Safety Management and Engineering Techniques(b) Safety in Engineering Industry(c) Safety in Textile Industry (e) Safety in Construction Industry(f) Applied Ergonomics(g) Safety in Ship Breaking Industry
3.6 A student is expected to attend classes regularly. Minimum present shall be 75 per cent of the total working days.
3.7. A student who :a) has passed the final examination at the end of the programme
(including the oral examination); andb) has completed project work and practical tests to the prescribed
standard;will be eligible to receive the post diploma. The post diploma will be awarded by the Technical Examinations Board;
3.8 The medium of instruction for the programme will be English.
3.9 Lecture will be held at the institute during 09.00 to 18.00 hours on weekdays (excluding public holidays) as the Course Co-ordinator may decide;
3.10 The tuition fee payable for the programme will be Rs. 15.000/- (Rupees Fifteen Thousand only), Fees, if any, payable for use of the Institute's facilities will be communicated when a candidate is admitted to the programme. The amount of the tuition fee will be payable in full on acceptance on admission by a candidate for the offer of admission to the programme. The tuition fee will not be refundable. The TEB exam fees, Industrial visit fees and hostel fees will be payable by the student separately.
4.0 ApplicationA candidate who desire for admission to the programme will have to submit on or before the specified date an application which is complete in all respects and is accompanied by copies of the requisite supporting documents of qualification, experience etc.
