ObwegeserChin retractormalleable15 cm 01-17750

This instrument is used for placement beneath the chin and to retract the soft tissue as well as stabilizing the bone in genioplasty procedures or other operations in the anteri-or part of the mandible.

Mandibular body re-tractor13 mm , 17 cm 01-01490

The mandibular body retractor cradles the inferior border of the mandible to:• Facilitate making the vertical cut of the midsagittal osteotomy• Distend the cheek• Protect the facial artery and vein• Support the mandible as the osteotomes are struck with a mallet• Permit an adequate cut of the inferior border of the mandible

The shorter retractor is very useful at the zygoma. The medium retractor serves as an excellent instrument in the anterior mandibular site and the longer retractor is desig-ned for deep approaches, e.g. in the area of the mandibular angle.

The channel retractors are applied during sagittal split of the mandible to protect the soft tissue in particular the neurovascular bundle. The newly developed modifi cation of the “Obwegeser channel retractors“ provides better view of the lingual cortical bone between the semilunar incision and the mandible foramen. Lingual osteotomy during sagittal split using a re-ciprocating saw or Lindemann cutter can be performed with better visual control up to the posterior border of the ascen-ding ramus. The instrument is bent bet-ween the handle and the working end to allow the instrument to “get around“ the dentulous maxilla. The malleable instrument shanks can be bent to con-form to any anatomic situati-on, such as trismus or extreme dysgnathia, without obstruc-ting the surgeon‘s view.

The narrow channel retractor is used for the placement on the lingual aspect of the mandible. The wider channel retractor is used to engage the inferior border of the mandible on the facial side to assist in that portion of the osteotomy.

This extra long channel re-tractor is designed particularly to be placed on the lingual aspect of the mandible when performing a sagittal split osteotomy of the ramus. The malleability of the retractor blade provides an improved view and the serrated working end helps to secure the retrac-tor in the desired position.

The ramus retractors are used to retract the tissue over the anterior aspect of the ascen-ding ramus of the mandible in surgery involving this area. The retractor blades are con-cave to protect the lip.

This set of four retractors offers the following advantages:• Blades are thin and easy to insert• Width of blades offer better retraction• Two retractors can be used simultaneously• Rigidity of blades gives good resistance while using osteotome or drill• The retractors provide protection of soft tissue and vessels posterior to the mandible while it is split• The large handles are comfortable to hold

The medial ramus retractor is specifi cally designed to protect major blood vessels on the medial aspect of the mandibular ramus. Its use provides:• Ease of insertion• Safety against soft tissue injuries• Adequate access to the osteotomy site• Improved visibility

These intraoral sigmoid notch retractors are used on the la-teral aspect of the mandibular ramus after soft tissues have been incised, elevated and retracted laterally. The sigmoid notch retractor is then slid superiorly along the lateral surface of the ra-mus until the sigmoid notch is engaged and then rotated laterally and superiorly to visualize the sigmoid notch, condylar neck, and coronoid process to provide excellent visibility and to facilitate ma-king bone cuts by either rotary, reciprocating or oscillating saws for various operative procedures on the ascending ramus of the mandible.

These retractors provide both cheek retraction and fl ap re-traction resulting in superb vi-sual and surgical access to the lateral surface of the ramus of the mandible. The sigmoid notch is visualized with protec-tion provided for the massete-ric artery. Both the anti-lingual and the posterior border of the ramus are exposed to allow full visualization of the osteo-tomy cut.

These very thin osteotomes are used in the sagittal split procedure and allow the osteotome to be placed just beneath the external cortical plate of the mandible. It is therefore easier to guide the osteotome through the medullary bone and reduce or avoid unfavourable splits as well as reducing the incidents of mandibular nerve injury.

• Reduces the frequency of inadvertent fractures of the buccal plate• The wider osteotome reduces the cumbersome necessity for using two osteotomes simultaneously• The taper aids in transmit- ting the energy to the edge of the osteotome

The pterygoid osteotome is used between the tuberiosity of the maxilla and the ptery-goid plates of the sphenoid bone. Its advantages:• Narrow tip to minimize the encroachment upon the buccal fat pad• Narrow shank to minimize the threat of tearing the mucoperiosteal fl ap• Sharp edge with reverse bevel to aid in the positive seating of the osteotome• French tip on the handle to facilitate transmission of mallet force.

These curved osteotomes are used as well as the straight ones (01-15110 - 01-15115) for taking grafts directly from the calvaria between two grooves. The grooves are made with 3 or 5 mm side cutting burr down to the diploe. The straight splitting osteotomes are used prior to the curved osteotomes:• The short thin blade is of a chisel type, slightly curved to prevent deep cutting• The lateral tips of the blade are rounded but still have the cutting capability.• The hexagonal wide handle is short to ensure strict control when hammering

Grafts as long as 12 cm and as wide as 3.5 cm can be taken in adults or adoles-cents for cranioplasty, orbital reconstruction, malar aug-mentation, nasal dorsum or mandibular reconstruction.

The large hexagonal handle allows for a fi rm grip when ta-king bone grafts from the ilium or tibia. The thin blades and cutting edges avoid slippage of the osteotome and brea-kage of the grafts. A special hardening process has been applied to the thin blades.

This series of osteotomes is made on the general pattern of the series 01-15085 - 01-15100. However, the blades are sturdier for all orthopaedic work on the ilium, femur, tibia, humerus and are thin enough to be used for taking grafts from the ilium and tibia.

The superior ramus sepa-rator in conjunction with the sagittal split separator allows controlled separation of the superior ramus osteotomy cut. Its unique blade action exerts force over a broad surface area for maximum control. This instrument is also useful in “down fracturing“ the ma-xilla by placement at the zygo-matic buttress osteotomy cut.

Designed to allow controlled splitting of the mandibular inferior border through the limited access of the envelope incision. The separators facili-tate application of the precise force necessary to separate the mandibular segment in a controlled fashion.

This instrument has been de-signed on the general pattern of the bone bending forceps - but it is lighter with less pressure power, the teeth are sharper with different distribu-tion. It makes parallel grooves on the septal or conchal carti-lages. The cartilage grafts can be thinned for replacing the collapsed alar cartilages and they can be bent for elevating a depressed nasal dorsum.

Original TessierCartilage bending forceps19.5 cm01-15171
