Both the material and the console should be capable of mastering a range of challenges at any given time, whether there be a mastoidectomy with the usual otology handpiece, or the use of a shaver in sinus surgery. Importance was also placed on the aspect of a construction suited to mee- ting the highest quality demands for both the patient and the user, whilst keeping the costs within an acceptable boundary. Our electronic motor, which despite a 10 Ncm torque runs smoothly has a controlled start/stop performance. With a running speed of between 500 - 40.000 rpm it easily complies to modern standards. The material and the processing ensure that heat de-velopment during long usage is kept to a mini-mum.

A patented manufacturing process results in extraordinary design and superior properties in our surgical saw blades.
During the treatment of delicate bones, Spiggle & Theis saw blades ope-rate in a steady and stable manner, which guarantees controlled guiding during cutting. This is due to the laser sharpened triangular cutting teeth which are set off positively as the result of a special etching procedure.
When using conventional saw blades, the setting of the teeth may lead to irregularities in the blade width. The teeth of Spiggle & Theis saw bla-des, however, are arranged in an exact row, which prevents the blades from undulating laterally when applied to the bone.
A very limited loss of bone substance is another distinguishing feature.

The shaver treatment method, usually associated with orthopaedics, was fi rst used for ENT-surgery in the USA, 1994. Since then, shaver systems have been developed continuously and are now established in many ENT clinics world-wide.
The setup of all shaver systems currently available on the market is very similar: the console, a handpiece, a motor (integrated) and a shaver blade as the working elements. There are, of course, differences in design, accessories and cutting geometries of the shaver blades. This results in the blades and handpieces of other manufacturers not being compatible with each other.
The indications for shaving lie in the minimally invasive removal of tissue in the area of the nose and the nasal cavi-ties (e.g. adenoids, nasal muscle). The principle stays the same: Tissue is sucked through the cutting window of the shaver blade into the lumen. Due to the rotation of the inner tube the sucked tissue is then severed and transported away through a hose, which is connected to a suction pump.

Spiggle & Theis GmbH can supply you with four different cutting geometries, each in three different sizes. Choose between sterile single-use products or non-sterile reusable products. The position of the cutting window can be easily altered by adjusting the setting wheel, even whilst in use.

The shape of curved bla-des is especially adapted for minimally invasive use in maxillary sinus (adenoids etc.).
At the end of each cleaning and disinfecting process a visual control and a functional test must be carried out to ensure that the inst-ruments are macroscopically clean and that damaged instruments are discarded before being reintegrated in the preparation cycle (see below).

There has been non-conform be- haviour of the user, for example by omitting the pre-cleaning step in new instruments or improper storage.
Delicate instruments should always be che-cked with magnifying glasses (8 – 10 times magnifi ed). All parts of the Spiggle & Theis Shaver BlZZes must be discarded together as a whole. Do not just replace one component under any circumstances.Lubricate the inner tube of the shaver blade with an oil spray to ensure minimum friction of the inner blade. Spray from a distance of approximately 5 cm. The rotation of the inner tube in the tro-car leads to the formation of an even fi lm between the inner and the outer tube which signifi cantly reduces metal abrasion.
Checklist Shaver Blades, multi-use
Preparation cycle:Every reusable instrument, new or reused, should pass through the entire preparation cycle. Each step is essential for the true sterility of the prepared instrument, so that the risk of infection can be signifi cantly reduced for both, patient and personnel. Not macroscopically clean instruments are subjected to another cleaning and disin-fecting cycle prior to sterilization, whereas instruments that are not fi t for use must be discarded.If the verdict in all categories is „free from defects“, the instrument is ready for sterili-zation and can be packed in foil or boxes.
