How can I Help?As a member of the Damien community, you have the opportunity to help fuel innovation and provide capital for our faculty and students to pursue new ideas. Your gifts help us support the students and faculty who are at the heart of the school’s purpose and are the priorities for The Tradition Continues Fund. It’s not the amount of your gift that is important, it’s the power of giving; together, we can make impact.

Why Give? Each family is asked to join in preserving this strong academic legacy through participation in our annual fund, The Tradition Continues. While the school is committed to maintaining a reasonable tuition rate, it also pledges to uphold the highest standard of educational excellence. The facilities and strong academic programs are directly tied to the level of support that sustains them. The success of our Spartan students is a testimony to the vision shared by generations of families who have given generously to ensure Damien’s strength continues.

Why is The Tradition Continues Fund important? The Tradition Continues Fund covers all the educational needs at Damien that tuition doesn’t cover. Gifts to this fund are used to enhance the educational and spiritual experience of our students. Last year, tuition and fees covered 81% of the cost of educating our students. To this fill the gap between tuition dollars and the remaining funds needed, we depend on philanthropy. Historically, this has been a successful model for many school and keeps tuition as affordable as possible while enabling families to receive a charitable tax deduction and the good feeling of giving to something important that will benefit their sons as well as future Spartans.

At Damien, we set high standards for academic and athletic excellence. We are proud of the legacy we have created and understand that to achieve continued success, it is necessary to continuously invest in our facilities and our student-athletes. Your gifts to The Tradition Continues Annual Fund allows us to do this by providing the resources needed to directly impact the greatest needs of our athletes. With your help, we are able to address our priorities and impact our program in an immediate and positive way most recently by rennovating Spartan Hall. As a centralized athletic facility, this upgraded space now provides much needed team meeting rooms, film viewing space, and supplemental sports medicine facility, while maintaining the Damien athletic traditions associated with Spartan Hall.

impact on athletics: commitment to spartan pride

impact on academic enrichment: a tradition of execellence Technology has transformed the world around us. In order to ensure Damien students success, our students must have access to interactive technology essential to 21st century prosperity. Thus, connecting the classroom and the real-world by demonstrating critical thinking, real-life application, communication and team building skills through the education we provide our students is critical. During the 2013-2014 school year, thanks to your support, a third of the faculty were provided Ipads, in order to enhance their classroom experience. The use of Ipads in schools has revolutionized learning, such techological advances provides unique opportunity for educators, while working with the independence preferred by our digitally-native students.

With an appropriate blend of ambition and honest self-assessment, a clear route forward has been developed. Our goals are ambitious but realistic, bold but clearly aligned with Damien’s traditions and mission. Our vision for the future serves as our institutional road map:

(1) to capitalize fully on the boundless potential of new digital technologies to engage students in learning while providing them with the skills needed to become productive citizens of the future, (2) to identify, develop, nurture and retain effective educators to serve our students in the areas of faith, quality instruction, management and stewardship, (3) to continue to upgrade, expand and optimize our facilities and ensure that learning spaces complement the unique learning style of boys, (4) to sustain Damien’s tradition of intellectual rigor through which our students develop inquisitive, imaginative, questioning minds, (5) to strengthen our sense of community, by building bridges among school constituencies.

Examples of this include:

It is the hope that each family will choose to make their son’s school their philanthropic priority. In order to meet our goal, we would suggest each family commit to $2,400, payable over four years. We recognize that this may be beyond the abilities of some of our families, while other families may be capable of much more. Thus, every pledge, regardless of size is impactful and substantial for the ongoing operations of the school.

Suggested Giving levels$25 per month/4 years = $1,200

$50 per month/4 years = $2,400

$100 per month/4 years = $4,800

$125 per month/4 years = $6,000

$200 per month/4 years = $9,600

$250 per month/4 years = $12,000

How much should I Pledge?pledges of all sizes are greatly appreciated – together we can accomplish great things on behalf of our students. In fact, we are asking that all of our families participate. Whether your gift is large or small, the point is that we are all working together as a community to develop the programs and facilities Damien High School and continue its improvements for years to come.

a Parent’s Prayer for students

Dear Lord,As my children leave for school,

I pray that you will keep them in your care.Send Your Spirit to open their minds

to all that is true and beautiful and good.Help them to see the gifts and talents

you have given them and to use them well.Help them to grow in knowledge and wisdom.

Help them to be kind to othersand to lead others to be kind to them.

Give their teachers patience and understandingand help them teach what is just and true.

Send you angels to guide and guard my childrenand to keep them from all harm.

Open their young hearts to your presenceand enfold them in your peace and protection.

Hold them in the palm of your handAnd bring them home safely at day’s end.

Amen.
