The Building of the Verrazano Bridge

At IS 30, Michelle used the Brooklyn Collection’s materials to uncover the controversial history of the Verrazano Bridge.

“I chose this topic because I live in Brooklyn near the bridge and always have been curious about it.” -Michelle

“Old newspapers are a great way to learn about the past and the Brooklyn Collection has them. The librarians are very helpful and have tons of information if you just ask.” -Michelle

“I was surprised to learn how much information there was about the bridge. Nobody caring about the residents whose houses were torn down was also very surprising. Many felt that everything they lived for and worked for was being taken away and it was all for nothing.” -Michelle
