Program Information Collaborative Meeting

Where to begin? Finding Career Pathway Providers (CPP) Communicating with CPP Selling the philosophy Bringing them in Sealing the deal Sub-contracts Writing the grant Putting in the hours Question and answer session Closing2

Where to begin?

How do I find Career Pathway Providers?

Who should I include to enhance my program?

3

Finding Career Pathway Providers

BISD’s Adult Continuing Education (ACE) Consortium for Cameron County provides Adult Education and Literacy services for all of Cameron County for about 2,000 students.

We are building from our current program.

ACE takes students of all levels. We do not screen.

We do not have Career and Technology Teachers.

We went to the two largest junior colleges to solicit participation in the grant.

We also went to YouthBuild to solicit their participation in the grant.

Both the junior colleges and YouthBuild have Career Pathways and Transitions programs built in their services.

4

Communication

People do not answer their email! Be persistent. Call them. Always CC the administrative assistant in an email and follow up with a phone call. Address the president/superintendent.

Set up a meeting or phone conference.

Mention the word FREE and that will get their attention.

Send them a sample of what their budget could look like to give them a visual. (copy in folder)

5

Selling the philosophy Selling the philosophy

Explain how they can serve a certain population. They will receive the higher level students.

Discuss how you can boost their enrollment. These students will be more prepared to transition into their

schools.

Discuss the monetary benefits. You pay for the teacher and they can offer the Transitions and

Career Pathways.

6

Bring them in

Let them know the basics:They get their own budget.

They get to hire their own people.

They get to set up their schedules.

You will provide monitoring and training.

7

How to seal the deal

• Do not make them reinvent the wheel.• Be prepared. Let them know that you know what

you are talking about.• Give them sample budgets.• Provide them with guidelines and parameters.• Share your successes and goals.• Invite them to an informative meeting. We hold

Advisory Meeting several times a year.• Show pictures, newspaper articles…BRAG.• Use your charm. If you are not a people

person, bring others along that are likeable.8

Sub-contracts

Get a copy of one!

It takes time to get signatures!

Be persistent!
