BRT vs MRT/LRT Low Capex, Low Opex High coverage, more patronage, feeders part of system Quick to implement and operationalised (within 2-3 years to achieve NKRA) Private finance initiative possible Healthy competition for SMEs Low or no subsidy, affordable fares Capacity up to 40,000 pphpd, then upgrade to rail where necessary, operations flexible to meet changing demand Very high capex, high opex Limited coverage, still depend on feeders (buses) Legthy implementation period (5-10 yrs for the first 25 km), NKRA target not achieavable Public finance and massive land deal. Monopolistic/ big boys club High/ long term subsidy/ high fares Infra capacity over-provided on some route. Not cost effective operations not flexible to meet changing demand.
