A bank as patron of the arts.
Bank Degroof Petercam’s proximity to the arts and artists has always been legendary and it assumes the role of leading patron – with discretion, but always in a long-term perspective. Art mirrors mankind, sometimes challenging, often ques-tioning, but above all suggesting a subjective interpretation of society. Our new entity shares its role of patron of a number of public and private institutions distributed throughout the country. Supporting projects, initiating custom-designed exhibitions or participating in major artistic events constitutes the role of Bank Degroof Petercam to question and share a view of society and culture with each person. But above all, it is a bank which focuses on its profession as its priority and advises its clients in their approach to their collection as a component of their total assets.

The Dispersed Museum For this year’s edition, Brussels Gallery Weekend has invited Brussels based Matteo Lucchetti as guest curator. Lucchetti proposes an overarching theme, “The Dispersed Museum”, which offers an alternative way to navigate the shows in town as if they were parts of an imaginary museum’s program. Every year Brussels Gallery Weekend also puts a spotlight on some of the outstanding non-profit, institutional, artist run spaces and private collections that contribute to the city’s inspiring contemporary art landscape. Together, the existing galleries and organizations shape a strong and solid offer, which could be alternatively observed as the program of a dispersed museum with many different active spots rather than a system relying on one centralizing building.

Hashtags Every show on the map is broken down to series of hashtags, briefly describing the media, contents and themes addressed. By going to our website it is possible to create a personalized path based on your individual interests. Select the hashtags (#) you like and get a map of exhibitions you would like to see. Choose for example, #conceptual, #painting, and #video and the website will generate a route of all the exhibitions that fit one or more of these criteria. Be the curator of your own experience.
Curatorial Parcours
Brussels based curators Sonia Dermience (Komplot) and Anne-Claire Schmitz (La Loge) have been invited by Matteo Lucchetti to join him in creating three curated tours across the shows. Go to our website (www.brusselsgalleryweek-end.com) to discover their proposals that will guide you through the weekend’s activities.
Talk Matteo Luchetti involves the local community of artists, curators, gallerists and collectors in a public conversation aimed at imagining the future role and functions of the museum of contemporary art of Brussels. On Saturday 10th at the KVS from 10am to 12:30pm.
