The company is organized in two business units:

• The Transport Solutions Business Unit operates in the design, installation, integration, testing, commissioning and maintenance of “turnkey” railway and transit  systems. It aims to consolidate its Italian leadership and to increase its European market share by taking advantage of the competencies developed in the segment of Metro Systems.

• The Signalling Systems are designed to ensure safety and reliability of railway and metro transportation, as well as to optimize the efficiency and productivity of these infrastructures allowing operators to increase the speed and efficiency of railway transport in compliance with safety regulations, and to reduce the minimum distance between trains (headways).

Technical competences relevant to the project• Ansaldo STS will make available its wide expertise in designing, validating

and operating railways. A typical use case will be developed and will implemented in order to adapt the nSHIELD framework for urban railways protection purposes, more complex than pShield (single stand-alone and static scenario). Infact, it will involve mobile and wearable devices, heterogeneous intrusion detection, access control, intelligent video-surveillance and intelligent sound detection devices.

• As security needs are progressively increasing in railways, Ansaldo STS has developed specific teams based in Napoli and Genova will make available their competences in designing and making systems for security. Infact, physical security systems for infrastructure protection have already been designed for metro railways.
