In 2011 Bryce Resort formed ajoint venture with Murray’s FlyFishing Shop in Edinburg, VA,

which introduced visitors and gueststo the joys of fishing. This year 450+ rainbow trout have

been stocked in our stream therebyenhancing the spring and summerexperience. Purchase daily fishingpasses for $10 or a season pass for$100 at the resort and cast your lineinto clear, sparkling water. Don’thave a fishing rod? No worries, youcan rent Orvis rods and tackle. Wewill even sell you the flies! A Virginiafresh water fishing license is required.All fishing is catch and release. If you are a fly fishing aficionado, or

think you would like to be, takeadvantage of our fly fishing schooldesigned by Harry Murray and taughtby Murray’s Fly Shop certifiedinstructors following Harry’s signa-ture “On-the-Stream” school format.The school emphasizes the fun of flyfishing while maintaining a level of

Zip Line AdventureTour, Bungee,Climbing Wall

Introduced in the summer of 2008,Bryce Resort’s enhanced moun-tain activities have proved to be a

major success. Attracting crowds allsummer long, these activities providethe entire family with enjoyment andstimulating fun.Jumping, climbing, or zipping – lots

of choices for having fun! For some-thing fast how about a zip down themountain on the zip line? With new-ly relocated zip stations to enhancethe experience, this fast-paced tourattracts participants of all ages – someas old as 85 and as young as 10. Meetin the Resort ski school first to get ashort orientation on the ins-and-outsof zip-lining, safety procedures, andhow to make the most of your adven-ture. Take the chair lift and then ashort hike to the first station, andbegin your “flight” down the moun-tain. Experienced zip line attendants

will help you into a special harness,give you some last minute encourage-ment and send you down to the nextstation. Reaching speeds of 40mph, atheights upwards of 65-feet, this heart-racing scenic tour of Basye/BryceMountain will give you the thrill thathas been missing from your life. There are 10 stations and the entire

tour takes about an hour and a half.You must be at least 10 years of ageand 70lbs. Proper attire is required

including closed shoes – no sandals.Reservations for the Zip Line arerequired and can be made by [email protected]. The climbing wall and bungee will

give you the opportunity to test yourstrength and climbing skills. Theapparatus is completely safe with itsorientation lesson, heavy-duty har-nesses, and trained staff. Climb yourway to the top or bounce yourselfhigh into the air, landing on a tram-

poline; your heart will be pumpingduring the entire session. It’s a greatway to tire out the kids or get a greataerobic workout yourself! Sessions arean hour and one half. Unless youhave a group of 20 or more, noadvance reservations are needed.

Grass Tubing, GrassSkiing, and GrassBoarding

Ski and tube the mountain insummer! Surprised? If you are awarm weather devotee and

want to ski and tube, Bryce is theplace for you, offering the same excit-ing experiences that winter playershave.Mountain tubing takes no special

skills except to sit in a tube, slidedown the run on a specially devel-oped surface exclusively for tubing,laugh, and have fun. Kids of all ages –4 to 100 – will enjoy this activity.Take the surface lift up the 800-foot

tubing hill, hop on into your tube,and down you go. Mountain atten-dants spray the surface with water toeliminate friction, making the ridefast and furious! One person per tubeor clip your group together for aneven more thrilling experience. It is agreat family activity. For the more physically fit adven-

turer, try grass skiing and boarding.These activities require physical

strength, balance, and fitness. It isrecommended for the athletic partic-ipant age 10 and over. For the first-timer there is a mandatory lessonwhere you will learn about the equip-ment, how to maneuver over the ter-rain, and how to achieve the bestskiing or boarding experience. Thebest value is the first time packagewhich includes the lesson, lift ticket,equipment, helmet and pads.

Lake Laura

If you just want to lie in the sunand relax, have a picnic, fish orboat, come to Lake Laura. Located near the entrance to the

resort in Basye, just off of Route 263West, Lake Laura provides you withall the relaxation you can dream of. This 45-acre, spring-fed lake is

stocked with fish, sports a boat land-ing at the far end, has a lovely sandybeach and grass area for sun bathing,along with paddle boats, canoes, andpaddle boards that you can rent. It isopen from Memorial Day weekend toLabor Day weekend. If you don’tbring a picnic there is a snack barwith items to stave off hunger andthirst all day.

appointed with vintage posters andphotographs, antique game boardsand sports equipment, a huge fire-place (especially atmospheric in thewinter), an 84-inch large screen TVas well as numerous flat-screen televi-sions for viewing your favorite sport-ing events. On Wednesday eveningscome on in and play Texas Hold ‘Empoker. It’s FREE and FUN with lots ofprizes and the opportunity to play inperiodic tournaments. Anindoor bee hive depicts the social lifeof honeybees and a mineral cave payshomage to the caverns. A CountryStore Gift Shop and a Virginia WineShop are all part of the Barn experi-ence.Exhibits ranging from a 25-foot-

long tobacco press to horse drawnwagons to early 20th-century tractorsto a Model T Depot Hack once usedto pick up passengers at the railroadstation, fill the 15,000-square-footspace. A 35-foot-tall treehouse sitsinside one end of the building and ishome to a family of five-foot-tallsquirrels. “The tree house was part ofthe ‘Fantasy Award’ winning float inthe 2007 Tournament of RosesParade and helps define a special children’s activity area in the Barn,”said Earl C. Hargrove, Jr., owner ofShenandoah Caverns.At the other end of the barn is a

Before thousands of peopleflocked to the vest-pocket vil-lage of Orkney Springs, VA,

and kicked back with a picnic underthe stars to hear blazing bluegrasslicks, great gospel tunes, classic coun-try songs, stunning symphonicmelodies and more at theShenandoah Valley MusicFestival, a relative handful gath-ered for small orchestras in a lessidyllic setting.The year was 1963. Outside of

the region’s county fairs, there wasa decided lack of professionalmusic presented in theShenandoah Valley. A smallgroup of people found this hard toaccept and so formed theShenandoah Valley MusicFestival. That August, the newgroup presented its first concert inthe gym of Massanutten Military

Academy in Woodstock. Applecrates were hung from the ceiling tobaffle the sound that bounced off theconcrete block walls.The music menu and the setting
