Concentrated Bullsheet Hi to you all in Subaru Land, hope you are doing well. Its that time of year again, and your club needs you……….on four fronts!! Firstly we need position holders on the committee, several of this years committee hold more than one role and it ‘s a challenge working two roles at a time. You wont be tossed in the deep end, the experienced members will gladly help you find your feet. Second, we need nominations for trophy winners, put your thinking caps on and nominate someone who deserves it. The nomination forms are in this edition of the magazine. Third, there are nine trips up on the board that need members to attend. Someone has put work into forming trips for the club so say thanks by attending as many as you can. See page four and five for details. Lastly the Club Web site has crashed and we need the help of someone to assist the web master get it up again. Give Richard or myself a call if you can give a hand. The June meeting will be held at Eblen Subaru’s show room, see page 8 for the details. Eblens have been our leading ad-vertiser for many years and graciously offered to host meet-ings at their venue. Unfortunately I will be away for work and cant attend but Paul Ewins will do a great job while I am overseas. Thanks in advance Paul E. Also the Mount Remarkable trip has moved a week so I can get back to lead it when I get back. Anyway, hope to see you at the May meeting, and if not along The fence line somewhere. Cheers Shinksy

Vital to Stay Calm After an Accident

THE sound of screeching tyres is followed by a sickening crunch and the shattering of glass, then all is still. We don't like to think about it, but car accidents do happen and all motorists should be aware of what to do if they are involved in or witness an accident. RACQ Insurance spokesman Mike Sopinski says it may be hard to think clearly immediately after an accident, and even harder to remain calm, so motorists should take care not to make any statements after the crash, such as admitting liability to the other driver, police or witnesses. "Firstly, if anyone is hurt in the accident, render all assistance possible but it's important to check for danger to yourself or others before doing so, and call the police and ambulance immediately," he advises. "After a collision, put your safety and the safety of others as a clear pri-ority." Motorists are required by law to contact the nearest police station if a person is killed or injured. You must also report a crash to police immediately if a vehicle involved needs to be towed away, any driver involved in the crash does not pro-vide details to others involved, or the estimated total damage to prop-erty (other than the driver's vehicle) exceeds $2500. If crashed vehicles are not obstructing the flow of traffic, they should remain in position until police arrive. If the vehicles are obstructing traffic, motorists should safely take photos of the accident scene before moving them out of the way to open the flow of traffic. It's also important that motorists do everything they can to limit and prevent further loss or damage to vehicles. Apart from the physical crash scene, motorists also need to be aware of their legal rights and responsibilities. "Motorists should be aware their actions may influence subsequent legal and insurance claims by you or against you and that you're quite within your rights in refusing to give police, or anyone else, a signed statement," Sopinski says.

Page 9: BS 2012-05

7

"However, you must produce your licence and medical certificate if requested by police and provide all particulars in relation to the vehicle, its owner and driver." Information is a key to resolving ongoing issues from a road crash. Motorists should simply get as much information as possible from those involved, plus witnesses and even police. "When a vehicle is damaged in an accident involving another vehicle, the driver should obtain the full names, residential addresses and phone numbers of all other drivers, and the registration numbers and the insurance details of the vehicles involved," Sopinski says. Michelle Kayser had no control over the post-crash scenario when a car pulled out in front of her Corolla last December. "It was quite calm, actually," she says of the crash scene. "I couldn't do anything. I had a lot of chest pains and was trapped in the car and couldn't get out. They took me away in a stretcher to check for spinal injuries and I was in hospital for a few days. "The fellow in the truck in front of me helped me and rang my daugh-ter, Tammy. "She and her partner got the name and address of the other driver and got witnesses' names and phone numbers. "They were a bit young and didn't get the rego, but thankfully we had enough information. However, it would have made it a touch easier to have had more info from the people; rego and the insurance company they are with. "Then we wouldn't have had to worry about getting a police report. I wasn't in a state of mind to tell them to do that." Kayser says insurance has paid for her ongoing health issues and she has only just received her 2010 Toyota Corolla back after $17,000 in repairs. However, she says she is still about $1000 out of pocket with incidentals such as taxi fares, hire car and her destroyed work uniform. Committee Nominations As is traditional at this time of year, nomination forms are included for committee positions, and for the annual awards for outstanding merit, or demerit. It is also traditional for club members to leave their nominations until the last possible moment, if at all. Let’s break with tradition and see some nominations coming in early! Fill out the form in this month’s Bullsheet, and hand to a committee member at the next General Meeting!!

Also, if you have a trophy from the previous year, please give it to a committee member at the may meeting so that it can be prepared for the next worthy recipient.
