  • BSc (Hons) Quantity SurveyingDeveloped in consultation with key players in the construction industry and accredited by the The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB), graduates are in high demand by local and national and international employers. The Quantity Surveyor (QS) is a key professional member of the construction team witha growing role in the wider property field.

The QS is the construction economist for building and civil engineering projects who provides an essential link between the designer and the contractor, giving advice on the cost of construction and contractual arrangements, and taking responsibility for the monitoring of costs throughout the construction period.

Quantity Surveyors require a wide range of skills and knowledge, covering the financial, legal, managerial, economic and communicative aspects of a project from inception to completion and throughout its active life.

Graduate opportunitiesGraduates from Glasgow Caledonian University’s QS programme are employed by private practices, including all the leading QS firms and contracting organisations, local authorities and development companies. Study TourMost years, Construction Management, Building Surveying, and Quantity Surveying students spend a week in Europe studying how the construction industries in other countries operate. The

University has a number of close relationships with European institutions and students are given the opportunity to visit a wide variety of European destinations.

Work ExperienceSupervised Work experience is an integral part of the programme. Each student on the full-time programme is encouraged at the end of year two, to obtain a minimum of 6 months employment within a suitable organisation. This is usually a paid position by the employing company. The industrial experience gives students the opportunity to gain valuable professional experience. Many are offered jobs with their placement organisations after graduating.

Links with IndustryThe Quantity Surveying programme is long-established, and has, over the years, developed very strong links throughout the construction industry. Graduates are in high demand by bothlocal and national employers. The graduates of 2014 had almost all secured employment months prior to their graduation.

For international students a designated advisor can also provide structured mentoring and study support sessions which cover numerous topics such as academic writing skills, personal goal setting and pastoral care.

Professional Accreditation The programme both full-time and part-time, is fully accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS). Representatives of RICS visit students during the programme in order to set exercises and assess their performance.
