TT 2110 WOVEN FABRIC STRUCTURES AND ANALYSIS

Answer FIVE questions. All questions carry equal marks.

Assume reasonable values for any data not given in the examination paper. Clearly state

such assumptions made on the script.

assumption but clearly state it on the script.

Question 1.

a). "With respect to the use of woven fabrics.the majority are plain-woven fabrics". Discuss

the above statement with reference to the properties and construction of plain weave.

(40%)

b). Draw design repeats of the following plain woven structures and explain their special

characteristics. (60%)

i. 3/3 warp rib

ii. 4/4 weft rib

iii. 2/2 matt weave

iv. Fancy Matt weave (repeat 8X8)

v). Hair-cord weave

Question 2.

a). Describe the classification of Twill weave giving examples for each category (30%)

b). Draw design repeats of the following twill variations based on L.-l twill base.

i. Waved or pointed twills

ii. Diamond twill

iii. Herringbone twill

Draw the drafting plan and lifting plan of the above design repeats using minimum

number of heaid shafts. (70%)

a). Draw a check design suitable for a shirting fabric using colour and weave effect. Eachsquare/rectangle in the design must be filled with a line effect. (50%)

b). Discuss the properties and characteristics of following structures using diagrams.i. Huck a back weaveii Mock leno weave (50%)

a). Describe the texture of Crepe fabrics and state two ways of obtaining this effect withexamples. (50%)

b). Discuss the properties and characteristics of following weave structures withdiagrams.

i. Terry towellingii Corduroy (50%)

a). Describe properties, characteristics and end uses of satin / sateen fabrics usingsuitable diagrams. (40%)

b). Draw the structure of Bed ford Cord weave with cross section and state their enduses and characteristics. (30%)

c). Draw the structure of Honey comb weave and state end uses and characteristics.(30%)

a). Discuss the properties and end uses of double cloths. (40%)

b). Draw a weave repeat of stitched double cloth in which the face weave is given infig I and the back weave is given in fig II. Face to back thread ratio is 2:1. Usebinding points in satin / sateen order. (60%)

a). Explain ornamentation of fabrics with the principle of "figuring with extra threads"(30%)

b). Draw a weave diagram to elaborate this principle using extra threads offour differentcolours. (50%)

c). Describe two methods practiced in removing unnecessary extra threads from thefabric after weaving.
