What Is Scouting?
A program of character building and citizenship based in the out-of-doors.
Program is used world-wide, with programs geared to specific age and gender groups.
It is based on a Scout Promise and Scout Law.
Each country customizes it to their culture, but still adheres to fundamental principles.
The Scout Movement is:A voluntary non-political educationmovement for young people, open to all
without distinction of origin, race, or creed, inaccordance with the purpose, principles andmethod conceived by the Founder.

Robert Baden-PowellBaden-Powell is considered the Founder of Scouting in 1908.
Assigned to Africa. Used his outdoor skills as a military scout during the Zulu uprising.
Started to write Aids to Scouting to teach others his scouting skills. Taught in small groups called ‘patrols’.
Proclaimed Chief Scout of the World, at first World Scout Jamboree in 1920.
The history of Scouting in the Philippines can
be traced back to the American Occupation.
Scouting in the Philippines is among the oldest
in the world, with an all-Filipino Boy Scout troop
organized in Mindanao as early as 1914, 4
years after the Boy Scouts of America was
founded.
The earliest documented formation of a Scout
troop in the islands was that of the Lorillard
Spencer Troop of Zamboanga formed in 1914
by a United States Navy Lieutenant
named Sherman Kiser.
In 1972, the Boy Scout of the Philippines membershipsurpassed the million mark, ranking it as the largestScout Organization in Asia and largest in the World.
At present the Boy Scouts of the Philippines with itsmembership of 2.5 million Scouts ranks second in theAsia-Pacific Region, and is third to the Boy Scouts ofAmerica in World membership is 28 million with 75% ofthe membership coming from the Asia-Pacific Region
Eagle Scout
Highest Boy Scout Award.
Only 2% of Boy Scouts earn it.
Requirements include:
Earning 21 merit badges.
Serving in a leadership position.
Planning and carrying out a community service project.
World JamboreeInternational gathering of Scouts from around the world (14-18yo).
First World Jamboree was in 1920 in England.
Mt. Makiling,Laguna
In 1959, It was the first time a World Jamboreewas held outside of Europe. The date also markedestablishment of the National Scout TrainingCenter in Makiling.
