Fresh off a wire-to-wire 13-7 victory over Holy Cross in the quarterfinals on Tuesday, third-seeded and 20th-ranked Bucknell takes on second-seeded and No. 10/11 Loyola in the Patriot League Tournament semifinal round on Friday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. With a Win over Loyola, Bucknell Would ...¤ ... advance to the Patriot League Tournament championship game, where the Bison would meet either No. 1 Navy or No. 4 Army on Sunday at 1 p.m. at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium.¤ ... play in the Patriot League final for the fifth time in program history and first time since 2013.¤ ... reach the 11-win mark for the fifth time in program history and first time since 2013 (12-4).¤ ... improve to 2-4 all-time against the Greyhounds.

About the Bison¤ After an 0-2 start in Patriot League play, Bucknell won five of its final six conference games to battle back to the No. 3 seed for the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison finished in a tie for third place with Army at 5-3 and earned the No. 3 seed based on their 8-7 win at West Point on Apr. 2. That was the first of four straight victories to end the regular season, and then they added a fifth straight win on Tuesday against Holy Cross in the Patriot League Tournament quarterfinals. ¤ Bucknell is making its 10th straight Patriot League Tournament appearance. Since the league went to a postseason tournament in 2004, the Bison have participated in 12 of the 13, missing out only in 2006. ¤ Bucknell is ranked 20th in this week’s USILA Coaches’ Poll and is the first team out of the top-20 in the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll, compiled by Inside Lacrosse. Bucknell was also ranked in both polls earlier this season after a 3-0 start, and this marks the 12th straight season that Bucknell has been ranked for at least one week in the USILA Coaches’ Poll.¤ Never before in its history had Bucknell played four straight opponents ranked in the top 20 in the USILA Coaches’ Poll, but that happened earlier this year when the Bison played Villanova, Boston University, Loyola and Army West Point in succession. Bucknell navigated that difficult stretch with a 2-2 record, including important wins over Boston U. and then-first-place Army. ¤ Bucknell has earned 11 Patriot League weekly awards this season, with nine of them going to freshmen. Christian Klipstein has been named Corvias Patriot League Goalie of the Week three times and Rookie of the Week twice, and he has won both awards in the same week on two different occasions. Freshman Jarett Witzal is a four-time Faceoff Specialist of the Week, including each of the last three weeks. On March 14, Will Sands was named Offensive Player of the Week in honor of his seven-goal performance in the come-from-behind win at Holy Cross, and Alex Spring was named Defensive Player of the Week on Apr. 4.

Last Time Out: 3 PL Tourney Records Fall as Bison Oust Crusaders ¤ Will Sands set Patriot League Tournament records with seven assists and 10 points, and freshman goalie Christian Klipstein smashed the tourney saves record with 21 to lead Bucknell to a 13-7 victory over Holy Cross in a quarterfinal game on Tuesday night at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.¤ Bucknell extended its winning streak to five games, its longest since a seven-game run in 2013, and improved to 27-0 all-time against Holy Cross. This one was made possible by a dominant first half, when the Bison outscored the Crusaders 9-1. Bucknell scored those nine goals on just 16 shots, as Sands repeatedly set up behind the goal and picked out shooters from all areas of the field. Meanwhile Klipstein saved 11 of the 12 shots on target in the first half. ¤ The game flipped in the second half, as Holy Cross improved on faceoffs and forced a boat-load of Bison turnovers. Holy Cross outshot Bucknell 20-2 in the third quarter and 32-6 in the second half, but Klipstein made 10 more saves in the second half to help thwart the comeback attempt. The Crusaders scored the first three goals of the second half to pull within 9-4, but they never got closer than five. ¤ Even though Bucknell lost the overall faceoff battle 12-11, freshman Jarett Witzal went 10-for-18, and he broke Jake Clarke’s single-season team record for faceoff wins. Witzal now has 165, eclipsing Clarke’s total of 163.¤ Klipstein, whose brother Ryan is a former Bucknell lacrosse captain and is now an assistant coach at Holy Cross, posted his second 20-save performance of the season, and he added five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Klipstein’s 23 saves against Villanova earlier in the year is still tied for the most by any goalie in the country this season. The previous Patriot League Tournament record for saves in a game was 17 by Army’s Tom Palesky against Bucknell in 2010. ¤ Sands had three goals and seven assists, and he continued to torture Holy Cross. In three career games against the Crusaders, Sands now has a whopping 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists. He logged three goals and six assists in last year’s meeting and then had a career-high seven goals along with an assist in an 18-12 Bison victory in Worcester earlier this season.¤ Sands missed the Bucknell single-game points record by one. Four players have recorded 11 points in a game, most recently Billy Eisenreich against Robert Morris in 2012. The team assists record is nine, set by Matt Fraser against Lafayette in 1980. Peter Baum of Colgate held the previous Patriot League Tournament records for assists and points in a game. He had six assists against Lehigh in the 2012 championship game, and he registered nine points in both the semifinals (against Bucknell) and championship that year.

All-Patriot League Notes¤ Bucknell garnered five spots on the 2016 All-Patriot League Team. Sophomore attackman Will Sands, senior midfielder Thomas Flibotte, senior long-stick defensive midfielder Alex Spring, sophomore defender Matt Gilray, and freshman goalie Christian Klipstein were all Second Team All-Patriot League selections.¤ Bucknell had three first-time All-Patriot League selections, with Sands, Gilray and Klipstein all earning their first postseason awards. Flibotte is now a three-time selection — he was a First Team choice in 2013 and 2014 — and Spring repeats after his First Team nod a year ago.¤ Spring and Mike Schiappa were both named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team. Schiappa has a 3.73 GPA in biomedical engineering, while Spring has a 3.36 in classics.

Bucknell Patriot League Tournament History¤ Bucknell is playing in the Patriot League Tournament for the 10th year in a row and for the 12th time in 13 years.¤ After suffering championship-game losses in 2008 and 2009, the Bison got over the hump in 2011 and won their first Patriot League Tournament title with convincing victories over Lehigh and Colgate. ¤ In 2013 the Bison again advanced to the Patriot League championship game but fell to Lehigh in the final. ¤ Bucknell is 7-10 all-time in the Patriot League Tournament.

Streaking¤ Tommy O’Connor is the only Bison with a point in all 14 games this season. He has a goal in 13 of the 14, with the only miss coming at Loyola.¤ Will Sands has a point in 28 of his 29 career games, with his only scoreless game coming at Loyola earlier this season. In the five games since Loyola, Sands has 12 goals and 15 assists for 27 points.¤ Sean Doyle has multiple goals in five straight games, with 11 total goals over that span.¤ Quinn Collison has a point in seven straight games. He has started at attack in the last four games and has six goals and three assists in that span. ¤ Alex Spring has recorded three or more ground balls in 19 straight games dating back to last season.

Milestone Watch¤ Sean Doyle has 98 career goals and is two shy of becoming the sixth 100-goal scorer in Bucknell history. ¤ Thomas Flibotte needs eight points to reach 100 for his career. He currently has 92 points from 81 goals and 11 assists.

Midfield Production¤ Bucknell has gotten excellent production from its first midfield line. In particular, senior Thomas Flibotte has been on fire with recent back-to-back four-goal games against Mount St. Mary’s and Lafayette. Flibotte had scored eight goals in the first 10 games of the season, but he doubled that total with overpowering performances against the Mountaineers and Leopards. ¤ A first-year starter, junior Tommy O’Connor has recorded a point in every game this sea-son, highlighted by a five-goal performance against nationally ranked Villanova, and he is

the highest-scoring midfielder in the Patriot League. O’Connor is second on the team and seventh in the Patriot League with 40 points on 23 goals and 17 assists. He had three goals and two assists in his career entering the 2016 campaign.¤ Like Flibotte, senior Kyle Shanahan is also heating up at the right time. Shanahan has eight goals in his last four games and 15 on the season. ¤ Bucknell’s second midfield line is very young, with a sophomore (Sean O’Brien) joining two freshmen (Ryan Durkin, Reed Malas). Durkin fed Malas for a goal against Holy Cross on Tuesday.

Sands Hits 100 Career Points, Ranks Among National Scoring Leaders¤ Still just a sophomore, Will Sands already has 103 career points. After tallying 42 points as a freshman last year, Sands now has 61 points from 34 goals and 27 assists in 2016. ¤ After his record-setting 10-point game against Holy Cross on Tuesday, Sands now ranks 11th nationally in points per game (4.4). He ranks third in points and fourth in goals and assists in the Patriot League. ¤ Sands’ 61 points are tied for seventh-most in a season at Bucknell. It is the first 60-point sea-son by a Bison since Eisenreich had 66 in 2012.

Witzal + “Spring-Ray” = Lots of Possessions¤ Bucknell has struggled in the faceoff de-partment in recent years, but that has flipped in 2016 thanks to a standout rookie at the X and strong wing play. As a team, Bucknell ranks 13th in the nation and fourth in the Patriot League with a .581 faceoff winning percentage. ¤ Freshman Jarett Witzal has taken the ma-jority of the draws for the Bison, winning 165 of 261 (.632) to rank eighth nationally and third in the Patriot League. ¤ A four-time Patriot League Faceoff Special-ist of the Week, Witzal broke the Bucknell single-game faceoff wins record with 21 against Mount St. Mary’s on Apr. 8, and then he smashed the record again with a terrific 22-for-24 performance against Lehigh in the regular-season finale.¤ After that performance against Lehigh, Wit-zal was named the Epoch/Lacrosse Magazine Player of the Week.¤ Witzal’s 165 faceoff wins this season are a new school record. Jake Clarke set the previous mark with 163 in 2009. ¤ In Bucknell’s nine wins, Witzal is 141-for-207 (.681). In the four losses, he is 24-for-54 (.444).¤ Bucknell’s faceoff success has come against top-notch competition. Witzal and the Bison have faced five of the top 15 and eight of the top 43 draw specialists in the country. ¤ A big part of Bucknell’s faceoff success is

due to the long-pole wing play of senior Alex Spring and sophomore Matt Gilray. Dubbed “Spring-Ray”, that long-pole duo has combined for 117 ground balls on the season. Spring ranks third in the PL and 19th nationally at 5.2 ground balls per game. He scooped a career-high 10 GBs against Holy Cross in the regular season. Gilray is 10th in the league at 3.7.

Special Teams Success¤ Bucknell’s extra-man and man-down units have both been strong this year. The Bison currently rank fifth in the nation in man-down defense, as opponents are just 11-for-44. New-Look Close Defense¤ Junior Mike Schiappa is in his third season as a starting close defenseman for the Bison, and he is joined by two first-year starters at the position. Schiappa has started 37 straight games. ¤ Senior co-captain Eric Monfort is no stranger to the program, but he is made the most of a position switch this season. Earlier in his career, Monfort played some offensive and defensive midfield for the Bison. This past fall, the team was lacking depth on defense due to some injuries, so Monfort filled in there, and then quickly showed that he was one of the team’s best defensemen. He started the first 12 games of the season before missing the last two games with an injury. Sophomore Matt Gilray moved from LSM to close defense in the Lehigh game and proceeded to blank high-scoring attackman Reid Weber.¤ Sophomore Benny Borgognone is new to the program, having transferred in from Fairfield. Borgognone also won a starting job in the preseason and has played in 13 of the 14 games, missing one due to injury.

Patriot League Success¤ Bucknell is 77-33 (.700) in the Patriot League (regular season) since the start of the 2000 season. ¤ Prior to the advent of the Patriot League Tournament, Bucknell won or shared PL titles in 1996, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003. The Bison won outright championships in 1996 and 2001. ¤ In 1996, despite a 12-0 overall record, they were passed over for an NCAA Tournament bid, but in 2001 Bucknell received its very first NCAA invitation. That season the Bison fell to Notre Dame in the first round at West Point, N.Y.¤ The Bison lost in the Patriot League Tourna-ment championship game in 2008 (to Colgate), 2009 (to Navy) and 2013 (to Lehigh). In 2011 they won the postseason tournament for the first time.

Another Klipstein in Orange & Blue¤ Freshman Christian Klipstein, a Second Team All-Patriot League selection, has started all 14 games in goal for the Bison, posting 150 saves so far for a .581 save percentage and an 8.61 goals-against average. ¤ After his 21-save performance against Holy Cross on Tuesday, Klipstein is third nationally in save percentage. ¤ Klipstein stopped 23 shots against Villanova on March 15, the most by a Bison since Justin Sussman had 26 against Hobart in 2001. Suss-man was also the last Bison goalie to record at least 20 saves in a game. He opened the 2003 campaign with back-to-back 20-save efforts

The season ended one game later, however, as the Bison fell to Colgate 18-5 in the semifinals in Annapolis, Md.¤ Bucknell went 6-2 in one-goal games, in-cluding a 3-0 record in overtime.¤ Among the graduation losses were former All-American and leading point-producer David Dickson (15-30-45), leading goal-scorer and Second Team All-Patriot Leaguer Ryan Joseph (27-6-33), First Team All-PL defenseman Ben Kellar, and Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year and starting goalie Sam Grinberg.

Head Coach Frank Fedorjaka¤ Frank Fedorjaka is in his 11th season as Bucknell’s head coach after succeeding the legendary Sid Jamieson. He was named the 2009 and 2011 Patriot League Coach of the Year.¤ Fedorjaka, who is only the second head coach in the 45-year history of the program, has a 106-61 record at Bucknell and a 145-92 overall record, including a five-year stint at Franklin & Marshall. Spring Climbing GB Charts¤ Senior LSM Alex Spring ranks second on Bucknell’s career ground ball chart, and his 258 career ground balls are sixth-most among all active Division I players. That total also ranks 10th in Patriot League history. ¤ Spring’s 75 GBs last season were tied for sixth-most in program history, and the most by a non-faceoff specialist. He has 73 more this season, eighth-most in Bucknell annals.¤ Spring, who was a Preseason All-Patriot
