BUCYRUS LAUNCHES NEW TRAINING PRODUCTS & SERVICES

South Milwaukee, WI, USA, March 11, 2009 – Bucyrus International, Inc. (NASDAQ: BUCY) Training has become a very important part of the business model for many companies around the globe, and Bucyrus is no different. To ensure that their shovels, draglines and rotary drills perform safely and productively to the highest degree, Bucyrus provides its customers with professional training products and services as a part of every machine sale. To better support Bucyrus customers and to add value to their product line, the South Milwaukee Technical Training Group is introducing several new training products and services in 2009.

VASTTM for Electric Mining Shovels – This product is now available for purchase. VASTTM stands for “value added simulation training” and is used to train operators in the safe and efficient operation of a Bucyrus shovel. A cost effective PC-based shovel simulator, VASTTM is designed to reduce training costs, increase productivity, and improve training effectiveness. A short video is available for viewing on the Bucyrus website at http://www.bucyrus.com Computer Based Training Modules (CBT) – A series of CBT’s are currently under development for the 495 shovel. Each module is designed to be highly visual and interactive with the student, enhancing the learning experience and improving knowledge transfer. Modules contain a series of lessons that begin with the basics and then advances to more complex information. They are fully narrated and contain periodic knowledge checks and examinations throughout. Learning Management System (LMS) – Bucyrus is implementing a LMS to efficiently deliver CBT’s to our customers via the world-wide-web. The LMS is a valuable delivery tool that also captures student data and test scores.

SMIL Technical Training Center / Regional Training Classes – Plans are underway for classes to be offered regionally in the USA and Canada, as well as at the South Milwaukee Technical Training Center. Course topics vary and can be customized to suit customer need. The Technical Training Center in South Milwaukee will be ready sometime during the 3rd quarter of this year and will consist of two general training rooms and one electrical training room. The electrical room will be outfitted with a variety of simulators that can be used for training purposes as well as for diagnosing and troubleshooting problems on both AC and DC machines.

In-Field Training – Bucyrus is improving customer training support for operator, mechanical and electrical training through the expansion of resources. These resources include additional instructors and standardized, high quality, electronic training presentations.
