Greetings from the MayorThe capital of the Hungar-ian nation continues to be one of the top destinations for international tourism; the fact that Budapest re-ceived the prize as Europe’s best destination in 2019 (awarded on the basis of the votes of several tens of thousands of travellers from all over the world) was exceptional recognition for the city. In the view of the tourism organization European Best Destination (EBD), this achievement is the fruit of the past decade’s work, during which time Budapest has become one of the most attractive cities in Europe offering a high standard of living. This is the reason it attracts investors, businesses and travellers from every part of the globe.

The Hungarian government and the leadership of the city are committed to making Budapest a liveable, like-able and healthily developing metropolis. Furthermore, the capital of the Hungarian nation needs to make ad-vances in promoting business tourism, an area that can be a take-off point for the city.

Domestic conference tourism has witnessed significant growth: in 2018, nearly 500 conferences were organized in Hungary, an increase of 13% on the previous year. Bu-dapest remains the venue of choice in Hungary for most internationally-organized conferences: close on 80% of conferences were arranged in the capital.

The leadership of Budapest continues to do everything it can to increase the city’s competitive advantage in the area of conference tourism, too, and to develop the still un-tapped domestic market using all the tools at its disposal.

Dear Readers,A modern and retro me-tropolis endowed with a touch of exoticism, stun-ning bridges and jovial people – that’s Budapest. The capital of Hungary – with the river Danube flowing through its heart, gorgeous buildings on both banks – is a grandiose and unique event venue.

Holiday tourists and city tourists sensitive to the highly developed cultural scene and gourmet gastronomy are all astonished by the fabulous beauty of Budapest. Many of them return as business tourists. Those who first expe-rience the magic during a conference will also take their families with them the next time.

Budapest’s official organization for tourism and cul-ture, the BFTK Budapest Festival and Tourism Centre, now provides a professional catalogue and incentive programmes for organizers of future conferences, which includes all the significant meeting spots, hotels, special locations, Hungarian organizers as well as travel compa-nies. I recommend to guests of conferences the several festivals and fairs organized by BTFK, since they provide great relaxation for visitors in every season; these events include the Budapest Spring Festival, Spring Fair, Summer Festival, CAFe Budapest Contemporary Arts Festival, and the Budapest Advent and Christmas Fair.

EDITOR’S NOTE

Dear Reader,In the centre of our publication, between pages 14–55, we present Budapest’s MICE services in four chapters.

The first part (4-5-STAR CONFERENCE HOTELS) lists those Budapest hotels that have a conference hall with a capacity of minimum 150 people and a 4-5-star HotelStars categori-zation, or that offer a standard of service in line with these categories.

The second section (CONFERENCE AND EVENT VENUES) details conference and event venues with a plenary hall capable of hosting at least 150 people, which – as regards their core function – can be hired for conferences and oth-er events.

In the third, UNIQUE VENUES chapter, those special ven-ues are presented whose principal function differs from the reception of conferences and major events (for example, concert halls, museums, spas, restaurants etc.). With just a

few exceptions, these are not primarily conference venues, even if the size of some would make them suitable for this purpose, but which are excellent locations for events ac-companying conferences, cultural evenings and receptions.

The fourth chapter of the catalogue (ORGANIZERS, PCOs AND DMCs) covers the wide range of programme organiz-ers and destination management companies in Hungary. DMCs marked with the letter ‘Q’ are registered by the Hun-garian Convention Bureau as qualified service providers.

We trust that our publication – which in addition to the chapters mentioned above also includes much more use-ful information – proves to be your handy guide in the Hungarian capital!

We would proudly like to present our restaurant – the mission of which is to shed some light on the colourful Hungarian culture – with its wide variety of Hungarian dishes, breathtaking interiors as well as a 19th century Ethnographic Museum that is located just below the restaurant.

Our á la carte restaurant area, with capacity to seat up to 90 guests, has a truly unique design. Every item has a story to tell about the notorious ‘Betyárs’ (highwaymen) or Hungarian traditions, which becomes even more entertaining with our open view kitchen, where we revive the famous tradition of campfire cooking and smoking.

The restaurant itself has several event rooms. Our ‘Conference Hall’ with a capacity of 96 people is equipped with the latest audio technology and projector systems (Barco-ClickShare). The ‘Mirror Room’ can accommodate 44 people. If required, these two rooms can also be connected and used for up to 140 people. For an even more prestigious experience, we offer a VIP room where up to 20 people can be seated in an exclusive environment. Our new ’Trabant ’60 Retro Lounge’ offers you the most unique design and experience of the retro era. This area is suitable for up to 50 people.

Budapest is proud to be The European Capital of Sport for 2019. The city has been awarded by ACES Europe, deservedly so: Budapest has become the host of

bicycle, rowing and triathlon competitions, marathons and running events in the last few years. Maybe the most popular event is the Budapest Marathon Festival attracting tens of thousands of visitors to Budapest at the end of September. Budapest’s event calendar is crammed with festivals throughout the year. The three-week long Budapest Spring Festival kicks off the spring season each year. In the summer, head to the peaceful oasis of Margaret Island where you can enjoy performances of the biggest seasonal multi-genre music festival in Central Europe: the Budapest Summer Festival, located next to the historic Water Tower. Budapest is also the host of the best major festival in Europe, the SZIGET Festival. ADVENTURE SPRITZER ON THE DANUBE!Just when you thought you had seen Budapest from every angle, along comes Redjet and gives you a totally new dimension!
