Page 2: BUG WANG PORTFOLIO 2010

I was born in 1983 in Taiwan, neither an artist nor a designer. I have been associated with art for more than 20 years. I just graduated from Pratt Institute from their Graduate Communication design program.

I am a thinker and a doer. To observe and explore the phenomena underneath the surface of things are my profession. My desire is to apply my observation experiences and my works to influence people’s behavior and uplift their physical and mental life.

Here is the thing: My working visa will expire in the next summer.

That means I only have a few month in this United States of America. Every second staying here is a wonderful gift. Therefore, I am keenly looking for an optimum company with vision and welcome me to work for them. I am enthusiastic to endeavor all of myself to get involve working and experiencing in United State. I will do my outmost and committed to the task in hand.

Museum of Taiwan Temple Art

Object: Logo design, business card, poster, ticket, stationary, banner

Description: This was an assignment from my visual communication class. We needed to design a Museum’s visual system. The challenge of this assignment was that I need to come up with a solution that could represent the complicated exotic culture in the plain way without losing its spirit. Therefore, I extracted the most significant parts of the temple and made them into a logo. In the image poster, I also utilize this idea and incorporated the stamp features to show the difference of visible and invisible treasure of the museum.

The Quirky Address Book

Object: Book design and Illustration

Description: This was a group project in my communication seminar class. We were asked to discuss a special ritual and do some research of the theme we choose, assemble and design it into a book. Our team was collecting different people’s special habits. In order to bring the result together, we made it into a phonebook. So this book will sort people not by their initial name but by their quirky rituals. In this book, I was responsible for the color palette, illustration and type treatment in all the front dividers.

IT IS NOT JUST A PEN --SKB18

SKB18 is an online magazine that four friends and I established in 2006 in order to let our creative spirit keep glowing after graduating from college. All of us are editors. We take turns to publish our magazine on the 18th of every month. Each month’s editor will decide a theme and we create works by the theme. In order to separate our magazine form others, we choose the most common and cheapest media--ball point pen as our core material. We believe creativity should not be limited by technology and specific tools. Our content also includes interviews of creative people all over the world in a variety of different fields such as graphic design, architecture, art, illustraton, etc ) We also invite others to contribute their rendition of the magazine theme of the month. This part is the extraction of my works in the magazine. See how the little pen did in SKB18!

SKB18 ONLINE MAGAZINE ISSUE7 SELF PORTRAIT

Page 25: BUG WANG PORTFOLIO 2010

Self portrait --I thus spoke

“Everthing I do always comes back to me”

---Stefan Sagmeister

There is a saying that no matter how great an artist can paint, when he draws a portrait, it will look like himself eventually. Even the famous painting “Mona Lisa” does have Da Vinci’s self reflection in it.

Therefore, in order to create a realistic portrait, it’s better to draw a self-portrait.

The process of drawing self-portrait is the process of projecting one’s inner images outside.

I am a painstaking thinker

Those have four limbs

Things seem to be perfect at the first sight but the truth is not like that. We always see things in the way we want instead of it’s actural appearance.

Men and Women

Do you know that a pen has a gender?Do you know the pen you use everyday is a male or a female? There are some clues for you to make out the gender of your pens. 1. By sexual characteristics2. By color impression3. By the height of the heel4. By the length of hairs5. By the outfit

If those methods don’t work, I can just say: Even humans are hard to distinguish their sexuality, let alone the pen!

Distance --The distance between Manhattan and Taiwan

Distance is a numerical description of how far apart objects are.In the point of view as a foreign student, the distance between Manhattan and Taiwan is close, but also really far.

PHOTOGRAPHYI do snap shots.

My camera is just like my little gun.

Shoot every moment that I cherish.

Light, people, space, sky, the changing world~

Most of my targets are those sweet strangers.

Thanks for Photoshop, I can weed out and add in some flavors on my “prey”.

So, bon appétit!!
