Our first decision as a group was to decide the shaping that the bridge

would take and we collectively decided to have the bridge in a

zigzag shape as this differed from the bridges of the other groups designs. We then made the bridge by taping

full pieces of the cardboard together. Our next task was to decide where two place the two areas where the

bamboo could touch the ground and we decided that the best way to do this was to divide the length of the bridge into quarters. To do this we made two boxes to push the sticks

through so they could stand on their own with the aid of tape. After these

two elements were made we combined the two elements to see

how they would fit together and if the bridge itself would reach across the

space.

After seeing the logistics of the bridge across the gap we saw that the zigzag could not bend enough to gain the height for the table to fit under it. We then, as a group, chose to change the shaping of the

bridge to a simple straight line and decided to add

embellishments later. While half of us constructed the bridge the

other half worked on constructing the supporting

under elements of the bridge by adding layers of tape to

strengthen all of them and also added tension by adding elastic

bands horizontally across the supporting structure.

We then laid the new bridge across the supports and

connected them by taping pieces of cardboard to both the bamboo and the underside of the cardboard. This made the bridge sturdy after the points of elevation but weak on the

flat surface in the middle. To fix this we stuck two pieces of

bamboo in a X formation on the underside of this area. We also

constructed a 3D cardboard triangle to place under the

centre of the bridge between the cardboard and the X of

bamboo.

After we had finished the basic design of the bridge we began to

make barriers for the sides all away along the bridge so as to stop the car from falling off the

sides. We also added an archway at the beginning of the fridge to

give it a race course feel.
