Area Guild Reports:

CENTRAL COUNTY AREA GUILD - Diane Jensen Alla Gitana - Carol Klein, Chairman Alla Gitana had a holiday luncheon at Gulliver’s Restaurant on December 13. The chapter was honored to have Marilyn McCorkle as their guest. They have a board meeting scheduled for January 22. Crescendo - Melida Canfield, Chairman Crescendo had a fascinating program on January 10th at the Bowers Museum. Bill Burke, the oldest

American to reach the summit of Mount Everest, gave us a fabulous account of his journeys. The

pictures and videos were breathtaking and his descriptions were incredible! He has reached the

summits of all eight of the “Big Eight” mountains. We were delighted to have our Guilds Chairman,

Marilyn McCorkle, as a guest. We were also especially grateful to President Terry Dwyer who started

our program with a brief update on Center activities and upcoming events. We like to have someone

from the Center at least every other year as many of our new members don’t know the extent of the

service to the communities provided by the Center.

Our Parliamentarian requested nominations of two of our members and an alternate to serve on the

nominating committee as it is time to plan for our new board of directors.

Our next general meeting is March 14 and we will have Gioia Diliberto, an expert on fashion who will

talk about how art and fashion affect our world today.

Pas de Deux - Linda Thauer, Chairman The Pas de Deux Chapter celebrated the holidays at the home of Bob and Linda Thauer on December 2 at their “Annual Christmas Wine Auction” benefiting Segerstrom Center for the Arts. Each member donated a premium bottle of wine and pumped up the bidding by telling a story why their wine was so special. Bob Thauer, our annual auctioneer, did a fine job of getting the highest bids, but we missed long time co-auctioneer Clint Schwab this year. Our small chapter raised a mighty $1,035.00 in support of the Center. Our “Trash to Treasure” event on January 21 was at the home of Gail Daniels and featured a Mashed Potato and Martini Bar. HUNTINGTON HARBOUR GUILD - Mary Thompson Flying Dutchman – Bobbitt & Bill Williams, Co-Chairmen No report LAGUNA AREA GUILD: Barbara J. Van Alstine Debussy- Sandy Hovanesian, Chairman In November, nine Debussy members went to the studio of our two favorite glass artists, and with one-on-one help from them we each created our very own beautiful piece of glass art. Our Holiday Luncheon at Five Crowns was once again a wonderful way to start the Holidays. Our raffle was the most successful ever as there was an over-abundance of wonderful gift items. We will enjoy the FitzGerald's Super Bowl Party February 3 that is sure to bring in more funds for the Center.

Mozart - Joan Cline, Chairman The Mozart Chapter had a very successful Fashion Show, Auction and Luncheon. We had a number of vendors as well as our Silent Auction. We then celebrated the Holiday Season with our luncheon at El Niguel Country Club with its beautiful decorations and the singing group from Orange High School. We really got in the Christmas Spirit. We are busy planning several other fundraisers for the next few months. From the Wings - Pat Lanning, Chairman In November we visited the California Museum of Science and Industry, where we saw the Cleopatra exhibit and the Space Shuttle Endeavor. In December we went to the Mission in San Juan Capistrano and had a great Holiday Luncheon at Sarducci's. In February we are having a wine tasting/dinner at Bristol Farms and in March we will have a luncheon/fashion show by Chico's and make-up by Mary Kay. NEWPORT HARBOUR AREA GUILD: Louise McClintock

Sound of Music - Danni Good and Diane Monroe Co-Chairmen The Sound of Music Chapter had a busy year end with our "Jazz it Up" Fundraiser on November 8th, which

was a very delightful event -- great vendors, lunch, fashion modeling, raffle items and entertainment.

Unfortunately the weather was a bit chilly, but we plan to present The Guilds with a check for

approximately $6,500 in surplus from the event. We thank the other Guilds Chapter Members and the

Board for supporting our event as well! On December 4th we got a group of approximately 18 together

for the Teatro ZinZanni Guilds Evening performance and dinner. Everyone absolutely loved the event!!!!!

It was so entertaining and fun to dress in feathers, etc! We especially enjoyed shopping the boutique!

Our focus for January is to try to bring in more members and we are happy to report that Tracy (Martin)

Kirwan has rejoined the Sound of Music Chapter and we hope to bring lots of support for her and Roger,

the Honorees, at the All Guilds Event in April!!

Camelot - Mary Philpot and Jeanne Schmid Co-Chairmen

Some of us attended the Irvine Arboretum plant sale on January 12. They are having another sale on

February 9. Travels with Camelot also attended the open house of Our Lady Queen of Angels on January

19. At our last Camelot meeting on January 10, we had an outstanding violinist and his sister, Chris and

Adrienne Woods. They are members of Hutchins Consort. Our next meeting will be the Patroness

luncheon at the Santa Ana Country Club on March 7.

South Pacific - Lillian Singelyn, Chairman

South Pacific members enjoyed a lovely Christmas Luncheon and Boutique at Santa Ana Country Club

in December. We are happy to say that we just submitted a check for $20,000 to The Guilds.

Cabaret - Terry Thacker and Marlys Haberman, Co-Chairmen

Adventures in Dining took members of the Cabaret Chapter to the Marrakesh restaurant in Costa

Mesa for a delectable feast of Middle Eastern/Mediterranean cuisine. Many of the members who

attended had the opportunity to try their belly-dancing skills with the beautiful belly-dancer who

provided entertainment to the group during the evening. Approximately 45 members and guests

attended the Cabaret Chapter Boat Parade Christmas Party at the Chart House Restaurant in Newport

Beach. While being entertained with the Boat Parade, feasting and celebrating the

holidays, Cabaret was able to raise funds towards this year's fundraising obligation to the Center. The

Cabaret Chapter Board has launched a Corporate Donation Program for the 2012-2013 fiscal

year. Approximately 40 businesses have been selected to participate and the program is currently being

launched and will continue to be nurtured through June l.

Two of our members lost their husbands and one member lost her son to ALS (50 years old). Chapter members gathered around to comfort and console these members. A Valentine dinner dance is planned for February 24 at the San Juan Golf Club. There will be dancing to live music and a silent auction. Beverly Sills – Karen Fullerton, Chairman The Beverly Sills Chapter enjoyed the “Burger Bunco Blast” on January 15 at the Vintage Train Car

feature a light supper and cooking demonstration by Susan Volmer from A Store for Cooks in Laguna

Niguel.

On December 13 a holiday event was held at the Center Club. Entertainment was magician Danny Magic. The prize that evening was an hour with Danny and 8 tickets to the Magic Castle. The event was a huge success. WEST COUNTY AREA GUILD - Diana Hardy

West Area Guild - Western BBQ West Area Guild is planning a Western BBQ themed fundraiser on Thursday, April 4 at 5:30pm at The Duck Club in Irvine. To most people’s recollection, this is the first area guild fundraiser ever produced in the history of The Guilds. We ask all the chapters to support us as we develop the details of this fun event. Carmen – Carol Hunter, Chairman Our November program was speaker Diane Ryan presenting “Optimizing Brain Fitness”! Diane is an instructor at Huntington Beach Adult School, Coastline Community College and other locations in Orange County. We enjoyed our holiday lunch at Gulliver’s. The Fountain Valley Troubadors entertained us with Christmas carols. We HIGHLY recommend these students to all of the chapters of the Guilds. They are fabulous. Our January program was quite fitting after the holidays ‘pigging out’! Our speaker was

Allison Suter, an integrative nutritionist. Her presentation was “Busting the Myth of Nutrition.” She offers other workshops and tours. A group of also went on a tour of Whole Foods to learn ‘the good, the bad, the ugly’ of foods in our groceries. February brings Carmen’s annual Chico’s fashion fundraiser at the Corona del Mar plaza Chico’s.

Center Stage - Louise Costa, Chairman In November, our members thoroughly enjoyed Guys and Dolls at the Huntington Beach Playhouse

followed by dinner at King’s Fish House. They also attended The Guilds Day performance of Memphis.

In December, Center Stage kicked off the holidays with Toys for Tots Open House at the home of our

member Joy Lemkin. Later in the month, members celebrated the holidays watching the Newport Beach

Boat Parade with a wonderful dinner at the Balboa Bay Club & Resort. During the months, our bridge

players continued their monthly evening get together.

CENTRAL COUNTY AREA GUILD - Diane Jensen Alla Gitana - Carol Klein, Chairman Alla Gitana’s Fun for Lunch Bunch had their Installation for 2013-2014 at Brasserie Pascal on Tuesday, May 14. Crescendo - Melida Canfield, Chairman Crescendo Chapter’s May board meeting considered a proposal to have Bowers Museum promote our Celebrity Series to their entire membership. Sandy Bass, as chairman of Long Range Planning, worked out the terms of the agreement between Bowers and Dianne Howe representing The Guilds. Bowers will advertise our programs in their quarterly publication, “Passport”, and their members will be able to purchase tickets to our lectures. The agreement is for one year and then will be revaluated. It is anticipated that we will generate more revenue for the Guilds (at no additional cost) and we will have a larger audience for our speakers. In June, installation of new officers will be part of the joint board meeting with both outgoing and incoming board members giving reports. Crescendo Chapter’s donation to the Guilds will be presented to Marilyn McCorkle, followed by a luncheon at the home of Elsie Everett.
