Just after independence and under India's vision of architecting a modern and self-sufficient India, there was a
dire need to address the Nation's infrastructure requirements. As an early entrant in the field of construction, Mr
U.R. Chinnusamy started out as a small contractor undertaking and supervising the construction of irrigation
systems. He established URC Construction in the mid-50s and led from the front. It was his vision, guidance and
uncompromising approach to our founding values, that has seen the company growing strong and stable.

CIDC VISHWAKARMA AWARD 2013
Our human resources management activities identify talented individuals in the country
at an early stage, to secure them for the company and support their continuous
development. Every new employee is welcomed with a contingent environment to
inculcate them into URC family by a customized orientation programs. We do this through
comprehensive skills management and training to develop them as new managers. URC
construction is providing training to all employees to develop their Technical skills & Soft
skills through our Internal as well as External Trainers. ‘ACHARYA-Train the Trainer’ is an
initiative developed by our Internal faculty. ‘Outbound learning’ with the help of our
internal soft skill trainer is to develop team building & attitude towards organization goal.
Active knowledge management ensures that knowledge is transferred between all URC
units.
Introduction of “Appreciation Card” in our organization helps to motivate our employees
to achieve their goal in practice. We have strengthened our human capital to meet the
growing challenges for the successive years. A unique facility started by URC to develop a
skilled work force which is an integral part of the industry is GURUKULAM. One of its kinds
in the construction industry, the school has been formed in association with the alumnus
of Institute of Technology. The school recruits unskilled workmen from different parts of
the country and trains them in areas like masonry, carpentry, bar bending and other
construction related skills. On successful completion of the course they are placed in our
construction sites for hands-on-training and after six months, they are recruited as
regular employees.
Recently URC has won the “CIDC Vishwakarma Achievement Award 2013” under
Construction Skill Development category from the Construction Industry Development
Council (CIDC).

SAFETYOur commitment to safety is well recognized by our clients and peers alike. We have
always emphasized and laid down the safety measures required in the industry. Regular
safety meeting and continual training sessions are held to sensitize every member of our
project team accountable for making the job site as safe as possible. The construction
industry in India also has unique cultural context and in this light, special measures have
to be extended to improve and create awareness about safety. Women, in particular,
are provided with special jackets and safety helmets to go with the local attire and
supervisors are trained to be gender sensitive, in order to create a congenial working
atmosphere. Our established safety program calls on every team member to observe
and stop any potentially unsafe acts.
ZERO HARMEvery year we are initiating a major program to promote our goal to have zero harm and
zero injuries. As an initiative led by our senior management, we are committed to
reducing work site hazards and other injury incidents for improving the well-being of all
our employees of our company, its shareholders, clients and business partners.

“For any society or an organization to become strong and
stable, the bottom of the ‘Pyramid’ has to be strong. The
dignity of individuals at every level ought to be respected. This
is the philosophy our Founder Shri. U. R. Chinnusamy who has
taught us and expected us to ensure. We have started this
initiative honoring the principles and ensure of our visionary
founder.
URC believes that a well-trained and efficient workforce is
crucial for the development of the construction industry. In
line with this thought a recent venture by URC is a skill
development school for construction workers named as ‘URC
Gurukulam’, located at URC Nagar, Erode, has been
functioning from 12th December 2012. Unskilled and semi-
skilled workers can enroll themselves and both offsite and
onsite training will be provided to them.
This school with the caption ‘GURUKULAM’ is meant to impart
vocational, skilled and technical training in specific
construction trades like masonry, formwork carpentry, bar
bending & steel fixing, plumbing & sanitation and painting &
decoration works. The Gurukulam is equipped with state of
the art training tools and experienced faculty drawn from
different disciplines.
