The expansion will provide a reliable supply of gypsum rock for manufacturing operations across the area and continue our 116-year investment in Alabaster Township and Michigan’s businesses and people. You probably recognize our popular brand names – products like Sheetrock® drywall and Durock® cement board. 1837 Gypsum is first discovered in the area, earning it the name “Alabaster.” 2017 USG is named a Top Workplace by the Detroit Free Press for the fourth year in a row. 1917 USG releases Sheetrock® wallboard, the first modern drywall, known around the world today. 1928 The plant is expanded with a larger quarry and offshore storage. 2012 The Sunrise Side Bike Path crosses 72 acres of USG property, granted as an easement to the community. 1902 The Alabaster Company becomes a founding member of United States Gypsum Company, now part of USG Corporation. Our products helped build One Word Trade Center in New York City, the tallest building in the U.S. and a tribute to our resiliency. USG products are helping create stronger athletes at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.
