Co-Teaching Collaboration In this session co-teaching participants will be provided with an opportunity to review the models of co-teaching as well as to spend time working together as a pair. Hands-on FA/CPR/AED Certification Training Part II

Every person seeking initial licensure or renewal of a license must provide evidence of completion of certification or training in Emergency first aid, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the use of automated external defibrillators (AED). APS has prepared a two-part course to meet this licensure requirement. Part I involves an online learning module, available on Blackboard, and it is a prerequisite for Part II - In person skills session. You must bring proof of competing the online portion (part I) to be admitted to any of these skills session. Individuals seeking certification to meet licensure requirements must complete both Part I and Part II of the training. Certification will be issued by ECSI. Allow approximately 4-5 hours to complete the online portion of the course. You can pause and return as needed to complete the entire course.

How to Start Using Wixie with Personalized Learning

Integrating Problem-based learning (PBL) and Career Connections into

the content classroom.

In this session participants will learn about Problem-based learning. PBL is a task-oriented problem or set of parameters designed by the teacher to mirror a real-world scenario. Problem-based learning embeds 21st century skills and ensures deeper learning of the content necessary to complete the task. Providing PBL opportunities in conjunction with career connections provides students with ideas of how to turn their academic interest into career opportunities. We will explain problem-based learning, demonstrate examples of PBL and will provide ideas on how to make career connections for students. You will design a PBL in your content area during the session so bring your curriculum standards and a device (preferably a laptop). CLTs are encouraged to attend.

Online Dyslexia Awareness Training Module

Effective July 1, 2017, every person seeking initial teaching licensure or renewal of a teaching license shall complete awareness training, provided by the Virginia Department of Education, on the indicators of dyslexia. This module is accessible from PCs and Mac computers. Online Teacher Evaluation Modules This online session is a requirement for all teachers that are new to APS. Choosing this session will allow you to fulfil the requirement for the new hire teacher evaluation training modules. Experienced teachers who need a refresher on the teacher evaluation system can also enroll in this course. PR Liason Back-to-School Training This training will start with an overview of the Liaison program, and discuss how PR, Web and Volunteer liaisons can coordinate efforts within their schools to produce content for the website and PR for the school and its programs. After that, we will break into a PR-specific session, which will feature NBC Washington’s David Culver who will talk about what makes a good story and what he and his producers look for when selecting stories. Taking a LEAP for Healthy Kids

Proper nutrition and opportunities to play and be physically active are critical to ensuring children grow properly, learn to enjoy nutritious foods, and adopt healthy behaviors for maximum development and lifelong health. Join Virginia Cooperative Extension staff to learn how to engage children in practicing healthy behaviors from a young age using a curriculum called LEAP: Literacy, Eating, and Activity for Preschoolers. Volunteer and Partner Liaison Training

The Volunteer and Partner Liaison training will start with a basic overview of the Liaison program and then discuss liaison responsibilities which will include the following:Recruiting and engaging volunteers, screening applicants, maintaining the APS database of your school’s volunteers and partners, communicating your school’s successes, and supporting future initiatives to ensure that all volunteers are recognized.

After that, we will break into a specific session that will feature a V&P liaison from last school year to discuss a number of best practices, tools and tips that worked for her throughout the year.

Please note that this is one of the 4 required training sessions for the school-year stipend position.

After that, we will break into a web-specific session, which will include a review of site required elements, monthly posting requirements, basic user management, and staff pages review. There will be time at the end for individual questions, help, troubleshooting, etc., as well as the opportunity to schedule Sara to come to your school to train staff, if desired. Please note that this is one of the 4 MANDATORY training sessions for the school-year stipend position.

Youth Mental Health First Aid CANCELLEDIn this session participants will learn the risk factors and warning signs of mental health problems, and gain information on a variety of disorders.
