Basic Course Structure & SLOsCustomizable Solu�onDescrip�on:The BESP Associate of Science Degree offers studentsa career lattice for mul�ple disciplines in the AdvancedEnergy Economy. Suppor�ng the college’s Guided Pathwayini�a�ve, this framework enables colleges to configureexis�ng programs and add new ones into a structure thateases student transferability among majors. Curriculum for52 courses is available from the pilot program at College ofthe Desert.

Students develop the technical background for mul�pleindustry recognized creden�als. Elec�ves support aconcentra�on on industry special�es that are in highdemand and stackable with other creden�als andcer�ficates. The meta-major may include any or all of thefollowing fields of study and industry-recognized creden�als:

• Alterna�ve Energy Technician/NABCEP, CSPV-I, CPVT-S• Building Operator/BPI, NCI• HVACR Technician/NATE, HVAC Excellence, EPA 608, BPI,

NCI• Control Systems Specialist/NCI, GBA• Advanced Ligh�ng Technician/CALCTP-AT• Energy Auditor/CEA, HERS, BPI, CABEC

Construc�on Manager/CSLB, LEED-AP•• Building Inspector/PBI, ASHI• Commissioning Technician/ACG, BPI, CABEC, CxT• Zero Net Energy Technician/LEED-GA, NCI, BPI

Each par�cipa�ng college determines its ownapproach to BESP, with an appropriate set of thefollowing objec�ves:

• All ECU awards combined under one meta-major• All awards organized as stackable cer�ficates• Stackable cer�ficates aligned with industry-

recognized creden�als• Student comple�on enhanced through robust

credit transfer across programs• Full-�me faculty resources op�mized via cross-

discipline design• Industry recogni�on of common program names

and occupa�onal special�es• Combina�on of credit and noncredit enables

lifelong learning opportuni�es• Transfer to UC/CSU included in design

Building Energy Systems Professional

Purpose: The Building Energy Systems Professional (BESP) is a meta-major framework enabling studentsto enter and succeed in the Construc�on, Building Science, and Advanced Energy Systems fields. Thismeta-major Associates Degree program spans the Energy, Construc�on, and U�lity Sector (ECU) andyields competencies that are transferable across mul�ple occupa�ons.
