Eliminate what distracts us from God. The first of God’s commandments – that he alone is God and we shall not have other gods or idols – reaches beyond simply “not offering sacrifices to pagan deities.” Rather, it includes avoiding anything that we “rank above” God or that prevents us from worshipping him. The importance of this commandment is seen in the way Jesus reacts against those who have made commerce – selling animals and changing money – their gods, their idols.

Year of St Joseph In a new Apostolic Letter entitled Patris corde (“With a Father’s Heart”), Pope Francis describes Saint Joseph as a beloved father, a tender and loving father, an obedient father, an accepting father; a father who is creatively courageous, a working father, a father in the shadows. The Letter marks the 150th anniversary of Blessed Pope Pius IX’s declaration of St Joseph as Patron of the Universal Church. To celebrate the anniversary, Pope Francis has proclaimed a special “Year of St Joseph,” beginning on the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception December 8 2020 and extending to the same feast December 8 2021. C’est en effet par le décret “Quemadmodum Deus”, signé le 8 décembre 1870, que le bienheureux Pie IX a voulu que ce titre soit attribué à saint Joseph. Pour célébrer cet anniversaire, le Souverain pontife décrète une Année spéciale dédiée au père putatif de Jésus. À cette occasion, une «Année spéciale saint Joseph» se tiendra du 8 décembre 2020 au 8 décembre 2021.

Salt+Light TV has produced Yes, Lord, a children’s liturgy that began airing Friday Feb. 19. Yes, Lord is a liturgy of the word designed for kids. It is broadcasting on weekends throughout Lent on
Salt + Light TV, its website (slmedia.org) and the Salt and Light Media YouTube channel.
Animated characters and the words of readings and songs scrolling across the screen make it easy for kids to follow along, sing along and practice their reading. The first reading and Gospel each week are taken from the Sunday Mass, so that kids are praying along with the whole Church. Beginning on Ash Wednesday (February 17), Journey through Lent will offer an introduction to the Season and reflections on Gospel readings of each Sunday in Lent. The short videos will be posted on the CCCB website. Each Monday, the link for the upcoming Sunday celebration will be released in English
