• Bulgaria is situated in the eastern part of the Balkan Peninsula in Europe, including parts of the historical-geographical regions of Moesia, Thrace and Macedonia. On the east Bulgaria borders the Black Sea, to the west by Serbia and Macedonia, to the north by Romania, on the south by Greece and Turkey. Territory of the Republic Bulgaria is 110 910 km².

• Bulgaria was founded by Slavs in 681.In 1018 Bulgaria fell under Byzantine rule .From 1185, the Second Bulgarian Empire re-established Bulgaria as an important power in The Balkans for two more centuries. In 1396 Bulgaria fell under Ottoman rule . In 1878 with the help of Russia, which organizes the Russo-Turkish War, Bulgaria was able to get rid of slavery that lasted nearly 5 centuries.

Thracian treasureThracian treasure• The Thracians were skillful craftsmen. • They used to bury rich hoards of precious objects both

to hide them in times of enemy invasions and for ritual purposes.

• To date, more than 80 Thracian treasures have been excavated.

The Madara The Madara HHorsemanorseman

The Madara horseman is the only rock relief in Europe from the early middle ages. It is included in the World Cultural and Natural Heritage of Unesco. The impressive monument marks the victory of one of the greatest Bulgarian rulers Khan Tervel.

Veliko TarnovoVeliko Tarnovo Veliko Tarnovo is

one of the oldest towns in Bulgaria. There is the fortress Tsarevets. The bulwark is near 2km long and about 2.5m wide. One of the towers is preserved- it`s called Baldwin`s Tower, named after The Latin emperor Baldwin.

MelnikMelnikThe smallest town in Bulgaria, Melnik is situated in the south-west part of the country. It's an architectural reserve. The nature around Melnik is truly amazing. The Melnik Pyramids are impressive and remarkable natural phenomena in Bulgaria.

The Rila MonasteryThe Rila MonasteryThe Rila Monastery is the largest and most famous Eastern monastery in Bulgaria. Founded in the 10th century, the Rila Monastery is regarded as one of Bulgaria's most important cultural, historical and architectural monuments.

PlovdivPlovdiv • Plovdiv is the second- largest city in Bulgaria after Sofia, with a population of 380,638.

• It is division of two parts - Old and New.

• It is called The city of the seven hills.

• Plovdiv’s motto is “Ancient and eternal”

Belogradchik RocksBelogradchik Rocks

The Belogradchik Rocks are a group of bizarrely shaped sandstone, limestone and conglomerate rock formation located on the western slopes of the Balkan Mountains. Many rocks have fantastic shapes and are associated with interesting legends.
