The Art Blast Exhibition held at the Fremantle Town Hall was probably the stand out highlight of the art year. Around 150 children from our school exhibited their work alongside children from all over the southern suburbs. Other highlights included the S6 class designing and painting a real life sized resin cow, French knitting fever amongst the year fours and fives and mandalas in many different forms in the middle and upper years. A few children participated this year or were invited to participate next year in art extension programs at Applecross High School and a few children secured art scholarships at Applecross and Willetton Senior High Schools. Congratulations to those children involved! The year seven children have only just finished printing their lino blocks for a group piece that will be displayed at the school to commemorate the Class of 2013. They will have to come back to visit the school to see the finished work displayed in the coming year. I would like to wish all the graduating children my best wishes for their start at high school next year and encourage them to continue to enjoy or appreciate art through high school and beyond. Art is a wonderful way to improve your creative thinking and problem solving skills and also simply a great way to find enjoyment and to relax. Next year I will be on maternity leave and will miss all the wonderful children at Bull Creek but I know you will have a lot of fun doing art with your new art teacher next year. ART NEWS

Bull Creek Primary School

From the Principal’s Desk Safe Holiday 2013 has indeed gone by very quickly. It has been an event-filled and successful year here at Bull Creek. I wish to extend my thanks to students, parents and staff for their positive contributions to the overall welfare of the children. I would also like to wish everyone a most enjoyable holiday break and all the very best for 2014. Celebration Night Just a brief reminder that Celebration Night will take place on Tuesday, 17 December. The children need to be at their classrooms by 5.00pm. The Edu dance performance commences at 5.30pm. It is a wonderful way to finish the school year. Our P & C will have Sausage Sizzles on sale and soft drinks at Celebration Night. To make purchasing simpler, families are asked to have exact money ready, if possible.

Graduating Year 7s Our Year 7 students graduated from Primary School at a most pleasant ceremony on Tuesday at the Melville Glades Golf Club. The Staff and Parent Organising Committee did a wonderful job preparing such a successful evening for the children. We wish our Year 7 students all the very best for their High School years.

Well Done Emma Johnson Congratulations to Emma for her continued success with her fencing pursuits. Emma was the champion in the following WA Fencing Championship events : • Western Australian Under 13 Girls’ Foil Champion • Western Australian Under 13 Girls’ Sabre Champion • Western Australian Under 13 Girls’ Epee Champion It is a terrific sport which requires an enormous amount of skill and poise - well done Emma!! Farewell to Some Families On behalf of all the Bull Creek school community I would like to wish all families who are moving suburbs, interstate or overseas best wishes for the future. Thank you all for your various contributions - great or small - to Bull Creek Primary School. Mrs Parke Retires Mrs Rosemary Parke retires at the end of this school year. I would like to congratulate and thank Mrs Parke for her wonderful dedication to a number of schools in Western Australia; but in particular for the 26 years that she has been a teacher at Bull Creek Primary School. Mrs Parke has been a great teacher and friend to many staff and parents. We will miss her greatly at Bull Creek and I know everyone joins me in wishing Mrs Parke all the best for the future. Newsletters In order to cut down on overall costs - photocopier use and paper - we will no longer be providing paper copies of the Newsletter from the start of 2014. The Newsletter has been available online since 2011 - you may download it from our website (www.bullcreekps.wa.edu.au) or subscribe to receive the newsletter via email. This system is used increasingly in schools and it is one we encourage. Adidas Fun Run This was a very successful P & C School event. The children raised $7292 - 30% of that money is spent on prizes and 70% of that total goes to the P & C. Thank you to our P & C President, Tara Snell, for doing a great deal of the “form filling” and thank you to Mr Boyes for setting out a suitable course for the different age groups. The 2013 Highest Fundraiser is Ethan Smith (from B4) who raised $710 - fantastic effort Ethan! The 2013 Highest Fundraising Class is B4 which raised $1120 - well done B4!! Is it just a coincidence that Ethan is in B4? - I don’t think so!!!

CRICKET CARNIVAL

On 22 November we had the interschool Super 8 Cricket Carnival where we competed against other schools. This event was held at Riverton Primary School. The boys came 4th and the girls came 5th. The boys won three games and lost two and the girls won one and lost 4 of their games, but they were all very close games. It was a very hot day but everyone had a fun and enjoyable day. The results of the Cricket Carnival was Riverton Primary School won the Boys’ Event and Oberthur Primary School won the Girls’ Event.

SNACK SHACK NEWS I would like to thank you all for your support of the canteen this year, both with your lunch orders and special picnics/morning teas. It's very much appreciated.

I can't thank enough my volunteers who help me each week. I have a few regulars (you know who you are) who I just couldn't do without. I will need help next year so come and say ‘hi’ and sign yourself up for a shift. Even if you can only do one shift a term it all helps. I am looking forward to the Xmas canteen picnic next Thursday. It looks like I will have close to 300 orders. I do need a couple of people to cook the sausages on the day so if you can spare an hour or two I'd really appreciate it. Come and see me or ring the canteen (via the school office). I would like to wish everyone a VERY Merry Xmas and safe and happy holiday. See you next year..... Phillipa
