Євангелія – Gospel Євангеліє від Іоана 4:5-42Одного разу приходить Ісус до самаріиського міста, що зветься Сіхар, недалеко від поля, яке Яків був дав своєму синові Йосипові. Там же була Яковова криниця. І Ісус, дорогою зморении, сів отак краи криниці. Було коло години десь шостої.Надходить ось жінка одна з Самарії набрати води. Ісус каже до неї: Даи напитись Мені! Бо учні Його відіишли були в місто, щоб купити поживи. Тоді каже Йому самарянка: Як же Ти, юдеянин бувши, та просиш напитись від мене, самарянки? Бо юдеї не сходяться із самарянами. Ісус відповів і промовив до неї: Коли б знала ти Божии дар, і Хто Тои, Хто говорить тобі: Даи напитись Мені, ти б у Нього просила, і Він тобі дав би живої води. Отцеві не будете ви.Ви вклоняєтесь тому, чого ви не знаєте, ми вклоняємось тому, що знаємо, бо спасіння від юдеїв. Але наступає година, і тепер вона є, коли богомільці правдиві вклонятися будуть Отцеві в дусі та в правді, бо Отець Собі прагне таких богомільців. Бог є Дух, і ті, що Йому вклоняються, повинні в дусі та в правді вклонятись. Відказує жінка Йому: Я знаю, що прииде Месія, що зветься Христос, як Він прииде, то все розповість нам. Промовляє до неї Ісус: Це Я, що розмовляю з тобою... І тоді надіишли Його учні, і дивувались, що з жінкою Він розмовляв. Проте жаден із них не спитав: Чого хочеш? або: Про що з нею говориш? Покинула жінка тоді водоноса свого, і побігла до міста, та и людям говорить:Ходіть но, побачте Того Чоловіка, що сказав мені все, що я вчинила. Чи Він не Христос? І вони повиходили з міста, і до Нього приишли. Тим часом же учні просили Його та и казали: Учителю, їж! А Він їм відказав: Я маю поживу на їдження, якої не знаєте ви. Питали тоді один одного учні: Хіба хто приніс Йому їсти? Ісус каже до них: Пожива Моя чинити волю Того, Хто послав Мене, і справу Його довершити. Чи не кажете ви: Ще чотири от місяці, і настануть жнива? А Я вам кажу: Підіиміть свої очі, та гляньте на ниви, як для жнив уже пополовіли вони! А хто жне, тои заплату бере, та збирає врожаи в життя вічне, щоб хто сіє и хто жне разом раділи. Бо про це поговірка правдива: Хто іншии сіє, а хто іншии жне. Я вас жати послав, де ви не працювали: працювали інші, ви ж до їхньої праці ввіишли. З того ж міста багато-хто із самарян в Нього ввірували через слово жінки, що свідчила: Він сказав мені все, що я вчинила була! А коли самаряни до Нього приишли, то благали Його, щоб у них позостався. І Він перебув там два дні.Значно ж більш вони ввірували через слово Його. А до жінки казали вони: Не за слово твоє ми вже віруємо, самі бо ми чули и пізнали, що справді Спаситель Він світу!

Gospel of Saint John 4:5-425 So he came to a Samaritan city called Sychar, near the plot of ground that Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired out by his journey, was sitting by the well. It was about noon.7 A Samaritan woman came to draw water, and Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” 8 (His disciples had gone to the city to buy food.) 9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?” (Jews do not share things in common with Samaritans.)[a] 10 Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” 11 The woman said to him, “Sir, you have no bucket, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? 12 Are you greater than our ancestor Jacob, who gave us the well, and with his sons and his flocks drank from it?” 13 Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, 14 but those who drink of the water that I will give them will

never be thirsty. The water that I will give will become in them a spring of water gushing up to eternal life.” 15 The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.”16 Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come back.” 17 The woman answered him, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband’; 18 for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is not your husband. What you have said is true!” 19 The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet. 20 Our ancestors worshiped on this mountain, but you[b] say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem.” 21 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. 22 You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews. 23 But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such as these to worship him. 24 God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” 25 The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us.” 26 Jesus said to her, “I am he,[c] the one who is speaking to you.”

27 Just then his disciples came. They were astonished that he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you want?” or, “Why are you speaking with her?” 28 Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people, 29 “Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done! He cannot be the Messiah,[d] can he?” 30 They left the city and were on their way to him.

31 Meanwhile the disciples were urging him, “Rabbi, eat something.” 32 But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.” 33 So the disciples said to one another, “Surely no one has brought him something to eat?” 34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work. 35 Do you not say, ‘Four months more, then comes the harvest’? But I tell you, look around you, and see how the fields are ripe for harvesting. 36 The reaper is already receiving[e] wages and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that sower and reaper may rejoice together. 37 For here the saying holds true, ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you did not labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

39 Many Samaritans from that city believed in him because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything I have ever done.” 40 So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them; and he stayed there two days. 41 And many more believed because of his word. 42 They said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you said that we believe,

for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world.”

INSTEAD OF: “ IT IS TRULY WORTHY...”The angel cried to the Lady Full of Grace: Rejoice, O Pure Virgin. Again I say: Rejoice. Your Son is risen on the third day from the tomb, andHe has raised up all the dead: Rejoice, all you people.

IRMOS: Shine forth, Shine forth, O New Jerusalem, for the Glory of the Lordhas shone upon you. Exult now and be glad O Zion, and rejoice, O pure Theotokos, in the Rising of the One born of you.

COMMUNION VERSEReceive the body of Christ; taste the Fountain of Immortality. Alleluia.

Неділя 5-та - Св. Світлана, Самарянка - о. Ігор Куташ

«Чи Він не Христос? »У П’яту Неділю після Паски ми згадуємо зустріч Господа Ісуса Христа

з Самарянкою. Як і в Четверту Неділю тема – значіння Воскресення Христового для людства. У Четверту Неділю Церква усвідомила нас, що Христове Воскресення принесло нам сцілення. До того, як ми пізнали Господа, як нашого Воскреслого Царя ми могли, як тои спаралізовании, якого оздоровлення ми святкували минулої Неділі, тільки лежати чи повзати и чекати, щоб нам допоміг якиись Ангел. Зараз же ми можемо вставати і виявляти діла Господні!

У П’яту Неділю ми знаходимо, що Воскреслии Христос дає нам Духа Святого, як невичерпне Джерело Живої Води, Яка відсвіжує нас і всіх довкола нас радістю, надією та відвагою працювати для Господа.

Самарянка, через яку Господь виявляє цю радісну звістку, відома в Церкві, як Фотіна - а по-українському, Світлана. Значіння цього імені – «Жінка-Світло». І такою вона и стала після того, як просвітив її Христос- Господь. Церква оповідає, що вона потім пішла жити в Карфагені і відважно проповідувала Євангелію там і в Смирні (сьогодні м. Ізмір у Туреччині).

Мала вона двох синів: Віктора (якого потім назвали Фотіном в честь иого чудової матері) і Йосію, та п’ять дочок: Анатолію, Фоту, Фотіду, Параскевію і Киріякію.

Віктор служив у віиську римського імператора Нерона, якии був відомии за иого жорстокість та психічну недугу. Божевілля иого особливо проявлялось у непогамованіи ненависті до Християн. За иого наказом Фотіну і всіх її дітеи жорстоко мучили і стратили. Та при тому італіиськии урядник, Севастіян, і сама дочка Нерона, Домніна, навернулися до Христа. Світлана осягнула вінець мученика, коли її вкинули в криницю.

Це ж тоді, коли вона приишла до криниці по воду в Самарії (о год. 12:00, в спекоті дня, щоб уникнути сплетні та різькі докори інших жінок, які приходили зранку), вона зустріла Учителя, Якии перемінив її життя, відкривши для неї Двері до Раю. У Своїи розмові з нею Господь Ісус виявив, що Він – справді Месія, Христос, Помазаник Божии. Він владно відкинув заборону прилюдно розмовляти з жінкою, як також і ворожнечу до самарян, яка була заставляла мешканців Ізраїля обходити Самарію у своїх подорожах. Запрошення Господа поклонятися Богу «в дусі та в істині» (Івана 4:24) лунають через віки! Кінець лицемірним, лише поверховим виконуванням обрядів та наказів. Замість цього Він закликає до смиренності, правдомовності та віри такої, яка шанує і ласкава до інших.

Новомученик о. Олександер Мень завважує щось додаткове в розмові Господа зі Світланою Самарянкою. Він каже: «Христос повернув жінці ту людську гідність, яку від неї були відібрали, а також право мати духовні потреби. Від тепер її місце - не обмежене тільки до родинного кола.»

На запит, якии поставила Св. Світлана своїм сусідам, яких вона вже більше не боялася після своєї зустрічі з Господом, повинні ми всі відповісти. «Чи Він не Христос?». А ми радісно и щиро відповідаємо: «Він воістину Христос!» Амінь.

Fifth Sunday after Pascha - St. Photina, the Samaritan Woman - Fr. Ihor Kutash

“Could this be the Christ?”The Fifth Sunday after Pascha is dedicated to recalling the conversation

between Jesus and the Samaritan Woman. The theme, as on the Fourth Sunday, is the meaning of Christ’s Resurrection for humanity. On the Fourth Sunday we realized that the Resurrection has brought us wholeness. Before we came to know the Lord as our Risen King, we could, like the paralyzed man whose healing we celebrated last Sunday, only lie around or crawl and wait for an Angel to help us. Now we can get up and walk and show forth the works of the Lord!

On the Fifth Sunday we find the Risen Christ granting us the Holy Spirit, as an inexhaustible Spring of Living Water, refreshing us and all around us with joy, hope and courage to work for the Lord.

The Samaritan woman, through whom the Lord revealed this glad news is known in the Church as Photina (or Svitlana in Ukrainian). The name signifies

“Woman of the Light”. And indeed so she became, following her enlightenment by Christ. The Church relates that she later came to live in Carthage and proclaim the Gospel of Christ there and in Smyrna (today Izmir in Turkey). She had two sons: Victor (who later came to be called Photinus after his wonderful mother) and Josiah, and five daughters; Anatolia, Phota, Photida, Paraskeva and Kyriake.

Victor served in the army of Roman Emperor Nero who was renowned both for his cruelty and his insanity. This insanity manifested itself in intense hatred for Christians. At his behest Photina and all her children were cruelly tortured and martyred. During the process, however, the Italian official, Sebastian, and Nero’s own daughter, Domnina, were converted to Christ. Photina received a Martyr’s crown by being thrown into a well.

It was when Photina came to get water at the well in Samaria (at 12:00 noon in the heat of the day to escape the gossip and cruel remarks of the other women who would come earlier in the morning) that she met the Teacher, Who changed her life by opening for her the gates of Paradise. In speaking to her, Jesus showed that He was indeed the Messiah. With great authority He set aside the prohibition to speak with a woman in public as well as the antipathy to Samaritans which made the inhabitants of Israel of the time take a detour rather than pass through their territory. His invitation to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24) ring out throughout the ages. No more hypocritical, superficial fulfillment of rituals and commandments. Instead He calls for humility, truthfulness and the sort of faith that respects and is kind to others.

The martyred Fr. Alexander Men notes something further about this conversation of the Lord’s with Photina, the Samaritan woman. He says: “Christ returned to women that human dignity which had been taken from them, as well as the right to have spiritual needs. Henceforth, their place was not only in the family circle.”

The question that St. Photina put to her neighbours, of whom she was no longer frightened after her meeting with the Lord, is one to which we must all respond: “Could this be the Christ?” Our response must be a joyous and sincere one: “He is indeed!” Amen.

condolences to the family of a long time Sobor member Ann Hneda who fell asleep in the Lord this past week. May her Memory be Eternal!

PANACHYDA FOR OUR ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERS - Each year the members of the Ukrainian Women's Association (UWAC), Daughters of Ukraine Regina Branch and the Ukrainian Orthodox Men's Association (TYC) of Regina hold a panakhyda/memorial service in memory of the departed members of UWAC and TYC/UOMA.  This year the panakhyda is scheduled for Sunday, May 20th following the Divine Liturgy.  Please plan to attend and remember these many parishioners who contributed so generously to the well-being of our parish.

3. Remind from TreasurerPlease put your name and the amount of your donation on the donation envelope. This will ensure that your donation is properly entered. 4. Used Eyeglasses - Please donate your used eyeglasses to the Lions International to help those in need in the developing countries. A collection box is located at the church’s back door.  If you require additional information – please speak to Wally Kaminski.

Extra Ordinary SOBOR

The Extra Ordinary Sobor registration package is now available. You can download it from the website - www.orthodoxsaskatoon.org. Full weekend event registration costs $400 or $350 for Saturday/Sunday only. Register before May 15 and receive a $50 discount.

Once registration deadline of June 15 has past we will make available any remaining Saturday night banquet tickets. Youth/CYMK registration is only $50 for the full weekend or $25 for Saturday/Sunday.

Register early & be ensured a spot at this historic event celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the UOCC .

6. FAMILY CAMP

The Central Eparchy Centenary Committee has identified the Family Camp Pilot as a strategic future oriented Centenary Project and the Regina Decent of the Holy Spirit-UO Parish Council has mandated the local Regina Centenary Committee to explore the formation of a Family Camp Working Group jointly with other congregations in the Central Eparchy.

Goal of the Family Camp Proposed Pilot - To create an additional vehicle for renewing our Church parishes, by bringing our Orthodox member families together and empowering and engaging them in a process of mutual support in living a Gospel centered life as individuals, families and communities as a whole.
