The weekly Examen prayer group was so successful in July that we will continue to meet every Tuesday at 6:15 pm in August in the second floor classroom. The Examen is a 15 minute prayer to help you pause, reflect and take a deeper look at your day. Because the date falls on a Saturday, it is not a Holy Day of obligation and the Mass schedule will not change. The Solemnity will be celebrated at the noon mass on Aug. 15 th . Greetings of Peace, This week, we celebrate the Feast of the Assumption (August 15). Because the feast falls on a Saturday this year, it is not a holy day of obligation, though it will be celebrated as a Solemnity at the noon Mass on August 15 th . I invite you to use this important day to consider all that Mary has taught us. Mary is a model of gentleness, faithfulness, and compassion. Perhaps this is why so many places of service are named after our Virgin Mother. Seibo is one of these places; a hospital in Japan run by Franciscan Missionary Sisters and named “Blessed Mother.” This was the hospital that Sr. Barbara Hogan, FMM, worked at for so many years. After over fifty years of service in Japan, Sr. Barbara returned to the Boston area and served in the Wellness Center here at the Shrine. Sr. Barbara passed away last week and all of us at the Shrine mourn this deep loss. While serving here, Sr. Barbara met every person that walked through our doors with respect and compassion. Sr. Barbara worked at the Wellness Center and was a model of Franciscan compassion. May she rest in peace. New Grief Group Br. Paul O’Keeffe, OFM, will begin a new grief group. This group seeks to provide support for persons suffering the loss of a loved one and have been grieving for more than ninety days.
