LIFELINES

“Our efforts to heal the wounds of society will depend on our capacity to love and to be faithful to our mission. The Holy Father is showing us very clearly that our struggle is not just a political battle or a legal problem, but that we must evangelize and humanize the culture, then the world will be safe for the unborn, the elderly and the unproductive. The Gospel of Life is a Gospel of mercy. If we are going to get a hearing in today’s world, it will be because people recognize that authenticity of our lives and our dedication to building a civilization of love. We are called to live our lives as a service to others and commit our lives to give witness to the presence of God’s love and mercy in our midst.” ~ Seán Cardinal O'Malley, O.F.M. Cap., Archbishop of Boston and Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, “The New Evangelization in the Pontificate of Pope Francis” August 6, 2013

FUEL SPILL UPDATE Thank you for your patience, support, understanding, and prayers during our fuel spill crisis and clean-up. Fr. Cas understands that you may need to attend Mass in a different Parish until St. Francis Church reopens, but please don’t forget our Parish Community. Your support is still needed to help meet our everyday expenses. All Weekend Masses will continue to be held at St. Augustine Church until further notice. Please continue to keep your friends and neighbors informed so that they will be able to get to a Mass on time. Weekday Masses usually scheduled for St. Francis Church will be held in the Rectory. Please pray for a quick, successful cleanup of the spill.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT “We the faithful of the Roman Catholic Community of St. Brigid Parish, (St. Francis Xavier and St. Augustine Churches), in union with our Holy Father, the Pope, and the Diocese of Scranton, are called through baptism to share in the mission which Jesus Christ has entrusted to the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. SPECIAL COLLECTIONS FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON Our Parish is participating special collections for the upcoming Christmas Season. We ask for your help in reaching our goals for these collections. The first is collecting 250 boxes of Hot Chocolate Mix for the Susquehanna County Christmas Bureau. This group provides the ingredients for Christmas Dinner for low income families in Susquehanna County. Boxes will be in the back of the Church for these donations. The deadline for donations is Monday, December 9th. (Hot Chocolate Mix is available at the Dollar stores at better prices than the grocery stores.) Second is to collect men’s and women’s disposable razors to go to the St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen in Scranton. These are added to shoe boxes full of other toiletry articles given to guests at the Kitchen. Luckily enough razors were donated last year that we will not have to collect any this year! The third is collecting for “Christmas Stocking” a project to help us remember our troops at Christmas. Normally we send a stocking to our Parishioners and others in the Armed Forces. This is a great idea to show our support for our troops, especially while they are away from home at Christmas. HOWEVER, every year it is getting increasingly difficult for us to get names of service persons to send stockings to. Therefore, if you have a person you would like a stocking sent to, please send us the name and address by November 1st. If we do not receive any names, we will not take this collection up this year.

VISITORS WELCOME For those of you who know Theresa (Terry) Baum, you know that she is now pretty much homebound. If any of you would like to go sit and spend some time with her, it would be welcomed. Her phone number is 570-395-3586. Her address is: LeRaysville Road, Rome, Pa.

RUMMAGE & BAKE SALE The Little Meadows United Methodist Church will have a Rummage and Bake Sale THIS Saturday, October 19th, from 9AM to 2M. Lunch will be available. Bag sale begins at 1 PM.

CYO BASKETBALL Catholic youth (7th to 12th grades) are welcome and encouraged to participate in 2013-2014 basketball programs. If you are interested, please send an email to [email protected] with the name, grade, age, and parent’s contact email or phone number and we will get back to you with more information. Questions are welcome.

Catholic Media & Communications: “Giving everyone the opportunity to read, see and hear the Good News.”

Spreading the Gospel and the message of our Catholic faith is a vital part of how we devotedly “Serve with Love”. This is why we provide a wide-ranging media program that offers print, online and broadcasting services throughout our 11-county Diocese. The message is delivered through The Catholic Light, the official newspaper of the Diocese which is delivered to 46,000 households; Catholic Television (CTV), the Diocesan television station; and the Diocesan website. CTV reaches more than 235,000 homes, hospitals and nursing facilities broadcasting the daily Mass and many other faith-based programs. The Diocesan website is an excellent online resource for information about life and events in the Diocese, including videos of the daily Mass and the special liturgies celebrated at St. Peter’s Cathedral and Bishop Bambera’s homilies. St. Brigid Parish Appeal goal is $ 23,750.00, the same amount as last year.
