The goal of protecting concrete fromchemical attack and abrasion with a high-integrity lining system has alwaysbeen elusive. Acid brick is known for itssuperior performance in chemicalenvironments, but its installation overcomplex geometrics is painstaking.Monolithic toppings are subject tocracking and the limitations of their base resin systems. Fiberglass-reinforcedlinings must be installed in near perfect conditions.

Thermoplastic resins have always shownpromise as a solution to this perplexingproblem. Thermoplastics display excellentchemical, abrasion and impact resistance while maintaining flexibility. They are also available in a variety of resin systems that can be tailored tospecific applications.

Themoplastics are also weldable, offeringhigh integrity and ease of connection to

piping systems. But there was a problemaffixing thermoplastic sheets to concrete.Gluing the sheets was unsuccessful dueto the plastic’s tendency to expand andcontract with temperature variations.Sheets would buckle off walls or simplylose their bond from the substrate. Plus, gluing thermoplastics to anything proved difficult due to the lack of effectiveadhesives. Enter Anchor-Lok™.

THE PROBLEM

THE SOLUTIONThermoplastics can indeed be used toprotect concrete. The trick is to imbed thesheets of lining into the concrete insteadof trying to adhere them to the concrete. That’s the premise of the Anchor-LokLining System. By affixing speciallydesigned anchor studs to thermoplasticsheets, Atlas engineers have developed asheet lining that can be positively fixed toconcrete surfaces making it an integralpart of the structure. The result ... a lining system with a myriad of benefits.

Chemical ResistanceAnchor-Lok has outstanding resistance toa broad range of chemicals includingacids, alkalies, salts and solvents.

Wide Temperature RangeVarious grades of Anchor-Lok can beused in temperatures ranging from -40º F(-40º C) to 275º F (135º C).

Crack BridgingThe elongation properties ofthermoplastics allow Anchor-Lok tobridge small cracks in concrete. This benefit virtually eliminates the needfor expansion joints.

Verifiable ProtectionWelded seams can be spark-tested atany time to assure a leak-free seal.Anchor-Lok installation can be installedwith leak detection systems for furtherassurance.

Hydrostatic Head ResistanceBecause Anchor-Lok forms an integralpart of the concrete structure, it canwithstand over 100 feet of hydrostatichead without delaminating.

Abrasion/Impact ResistanceThe high molecular weights ofthermoplastics allow Anchor-Lok to resistabrasion and impact from a wide range ofmaterials. For especially toughapplications, Anchor-Lok is available inUltra-High Molecular Weight Polyethylene(UHMWPE).

For a lining system that offers such a high degree ofprotection, Anchor-Lok™ is surprisingly easy to install. Sheetsof Anchor-Lok are attached to concrete formwork just prior tothe concrete pour. After the concrete is in place and theforms have been stripped, any seams in the Anchor-Loklining are welded, completing the job. There is no lost timewaiting for concrete to cure and then be prepped. Anchor-Lok also can be easily mated with other coating and liningsystems and pipework.

Anchor-Lok PE(High-Density Polyethylene)Broad-spectrum chemical resistance. Continuousservice temperature range from -40º F (-40º C) to176º F (80º C). Meets FDA/USDA mandates foruse in food service installations. Base resin is UVstabilized for outdoor use.

Anchor-Lok PP(Polypropylene)Made of a stress-relieved copolymer that displaysgood all-around chemical resistance. Has amaximum continuous service temperature of 212ºF (100º C). FDA/USDA acceptable for foodinstallations.

Anchor-Lok PP-UV(UV Resistant Polypropylene)Similar to Anchor-Lok PP but contains additivesthat allow product to be placed in UV exposure.

Anchor-Lok PVC (High-Impact Polyvinyl Chloride)Excellent chemical resistance even in solutionscontaining bleach and oxidizing acids. Has amaximum continuous service temperature of 140º F (60º C). Its high strength and self-extinguishing characteristics make it suitable for use in exhaust systems.

Anchor-Lok PVDFPolyvinylidene Fluoride)A high-molecular-weight crystalline material thatdisplays outstanding resistance to concentrated acids and solvents. It is suitable for use incontinuous temperatures up to 275º F (135º C).

Anchor-Lok UHMWPE (Ultra-High Molecular WeightPolyethylene)Superior wear resistance allows it to be used incontact with abrasive slurries and powders.FDA/USDA accepted for use in food applications.Available in two grades –– weldable (UHMWPE500) and non-weldable (UHMWPE 1000).

Sheet DimensionsStandard sheet thicknesses are 1/8" (3mm) and3/16" (5mm). Sheet thicknesses to 19/32" areavailable as a special order. Standard sheet size is4' 11" x 9' 10" (1.5 x 3 m). Anchor-Lok sheet liningmaterials conform to all applicable ASTM and DINstandards.
