Introduction of TU
Tribhuvan University (TU) is the first national institution of higher education in Nepal. It was
established in 1959 A.D. The Central Administrative Office and the Central Campus of the
university are located on the north eastern facade of Kirtipur an ancient city centre. There are
thirty eight central departments and 3 research centers are located at Kirtipur. The university at
Kirtipur is spread over an area of 154,77 hectares (2042-5-2 ropanis).
After the second democratic movement of 2006, the Prime Minister of Nepal is the ceremonial
chief, the Chancellor of the University, while the Ministry of Education is the Pro-Chancellor.
The Vice Chancellor is the Chief Executive of the university. He is assisted by the Rector in
academic programmes and the Registrar in financial management and general administration.
Tribhuvan University is a non-profit making autonomous institution funded by the Government
of Nepal. On January 8, 2013, the government of Nepal has principally agreed to declare
Tribhuvan University as the Central University.
Main objectives of TU
The University was established with the following objectives
1. To produce skilled manpower essential for the overall development of Nepal.
2. To provide quality higher education.
3. To carry out research in multiple sectors.
4. To preserve and develop the culture and tradition of the nation, and
5. To enhance, disseminate and expand the knowledge and research of Arts, Science &
Technology and other vocational fields with the changing times.

Institute of Engineering (IoE)
Institute of Engineering (IOE) is one of the five technical institutes under Tribhuvan University
(TU). Looking back to the history, IOE was founded in 1930 (1987/11/19BS) as Nepal's first
technical school and reformed to present shape in 1972 as an organ of Tribhuvan University. It
is producing outstanding engineering technicians and engineers for more than 82 years. The
tradition of excellence in the IOE is further intensifying in the course of time. IOE is also
becoming more and more responsive to the ever-changing needs of the students and the
engineering profession. The Institute is experiencing a period of significant growth. The voyage
of IOE departing from producing law and middle level technician is continuing to running
Bachelor, Master and Ph.D. programmes by now. The alumni are spreading across all continents
engaged in the engineering profession of wider disciplines. IOE is running its programmes
through its four constituent and ten affiliated campuses in the country.
The Institute of Engineering is enormously benefited by the wide range of perspective and talents
brought in by the students, faculty and staff from a variety of backgrounds. IOE offers an
impressive range of academic resources. Student in IOE mean more than simply preparing for a
carrer. IOE strive to produce brains who can contribute to the growth of Nepal in all sense. IOE
involves students not only in the acquisition of a formal qualification valued in society but also
in the excitement of investigation, pursuit of ideas and the satisfaction that comes from applying
knowledge. Beyond purely academic pursuits, Institute offers a wide range of social, cultural
and recreation activities with the hope that students take a little time from their studies to enjoy
some of these benefits as well.

Institute of Science and Technology (IoST)
Institute of Science and Technology (IoST) is one of the oldest and the largest technical institute in TU
with 13 central department, 23 constituent campuses and 48 affiliated campuses. Nepal has a history of
nine decade of science teaching/learning at the higher level. Several schemes , plans, policies and
implementation strategies have been experimented in science education. This institute has come to the
present form after facing many challenges and preparing scientifically oriented technical manpower of
different levels to meet the requirements of the nation. It is capable to compete with universities at
regional and global levels in terms of curriculum and pedagogic standard.
A large number of students work on scientific research projects of varied nature at the postgraduate
(M.Sc.) level. The number of scholars doing Ph.D. in different areas is also increasing every year.
Collaborative exchange programmers in science have been given a priority . IoST and the Central
Departments have linkages and condition with different ministries and national/international
organizations and academic institutions. Students' enrollment at B.Sc. B. Tech, M.Sc.M. Tech. levels is
