Congratulaons to our Year 11 Drama students and their teacher Ms Jessica Spagnuolo. On Friday evening, these students put on a great performance of ‘Amelia Bradshaw Turns 8’. Those of us in the audience were thrilled to be there! Dear Parents/Guardians, You know the school year is quickly coming to an end when Year 12s are well into their examinaons and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest public parade, the SA Christmas Pageant has passed us by. Pictured on the leſt are the smiling faces of father and daughter (Victoria and Malcolm Renney) who were in the 2019 pageant. Together, they spread Christmas joy to those who lined the 3.3km route, to experience the magic Christmas can bring. The SA Christmas Pageant tradion has connued since 1933. If there is something that we understand here at St Dominic’s, it is the importance of maintaining tradion and values in the face of change. This brings me to our longstanding tradion of the End of Year Mass of Thanksgiving; to be held in 2019 for Years 3 – 12 students and their families on Tuesday 3 December. Our theme for 2019 is; You are God’s Precious Idea. This picks up from the recurring theme in our Catholic social teachings that we all maer absolutely. In religion lessons, classes are currently working through the theology surrounding this message and answering the quesons; If we are God’s Precious Idea how might we respond to this? What is God’s intenon for us? Thank you for not wavering from the commitment you made as an enrolling parent. This commitment is to immerse yourself fully in the social and spiritual gatherings at the College. Your family is a central part of this community and an essenal part of our thanksgiving celebraons. Today, families across Years 3 – 12 will receive a personalised invitaon to this end of year event. Families with daughters in Years 3 – 11 will be allocated 2 ckets, while families with daughters in Year 12 will be allocated 4 ckets. This does not include your daughters in Years 3 – 12, as they are seated with their class. Please respond by Friday 22 November. For the first me, our Recepon – Year 2 students will have an age appropriate day me Liturgy on Thursday 5 December at 9:00am, instead of aending an evening Mass. This Liturgy will include facets from the evening Mass and families of our Recepon – Year 2 students are welcome to aend. This change has been adopted, to hopefully meet the needs of our younger students, who have oſten in the past, struggled to stay awake at the evening Mass. Parents/Guardians of our younger students were surveyed and this change was decided upon, to support the majority. All are Welcome… Next Wednesday 20 November, we will have our final P&F Meeng (6:45pm – 7:30pm), followed by Fete Meeng (from 7:30pm). Here, we will celebrate the many great achievements of our dedicated parent/guardian volunteers across this year. This is a special me to reflect on 2019 and also farewell some of our key supporters. All are welcome. Condolences to the Family of a Much-Loved Former Staff Member It is with a heavy heart that I share sad news that a much loved former staff member and teacher Mary Vugts passed away peacefully this week. Speaking from firsthand experience, Mary was an exceponal teacher and inspired many girls over her 24 years of teaching at the College (1992-2016). Our thoughts and prayers are with her husband John, her children John Charles and Kate, and extended family. May she rest in peace with her God. Ms Muriel Noujaim Acng Principal

Primary News

Last Friday our Reception to Year 5 classes enjoyed a taste of school

in 2020. They enjoyed their ‘Move Up’ morning and it was a pleasure to welcome our new Receptions/parents and new students in other year levels.

Only our Reception 2020 students will be returning this Friday, for the second of their transition days. They will arrive at 9:00am and be with us till 11:30am. Thank you to the many Year 6 students who acted as guides.

Children's UniversityWe are proud of all our graduating students as they have shown themselves to be committed to lifelong learning and we have enjoyed over the year seeing all the various learning destinations they have been involved in. Many hours have been spent by parents chauffeuring, supporting and encouraging their daughters. We are also grateful to the many Primary School teachers who have given of their time to create learning clubs at school and to help students attain hours, to be able to graduate. We congratulate all 34 of our CU students for all their achievements from our National Bronze Award recipients for 30 hours through to Morgan Smith (pictured), National Gold Postgraduate Certificate for 600 hours.

PE WeekWe thank Mrs Michelle Richter for all her hard work organising so many interesting events which our students will be involved in, to celebrate PE Week. On Wednesday; • Year 3 to 6 students will be active and challenged at Bounce. • Reception to Year 2 classes will be budding gymnasts at

the YMCA. There will also be a range of lunchtime activities planned by the Year 6s.

Chapel MassOur next Primary Chapel Mass is being prepared by the Year 4 Class and is this Friday, 15 November. We remind our Year 4 students that mass begins promptly at 8:15am and all students should be there by 8:05am.

This will be a very special mass, as we acknowledge the Feast of St Albert the Great and all students who have made their First Communion in their parish.

Following mass, we will have a special morning tea, in the Art/Music space, for parents and Year 4 students.

SAPSASA CricketAnnabel Griffin (7B) had a great

time at the SAPSASA Cricket Carnival last week.

2020 Sacramental ProgramYear 2 and 3 parents will shortly receive a letter reminding you to contact your parish to prepare for your daughter receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation or Communion and Confirmation for 2020.

Some Parish programs begin this year, so it is very important that you quickly contact your parish.

Christmas Giving TreeOur community is always very generous to those in need and last year we were overwhelmed by the donations to our annual Giving Tree. All donations are given to Vinnies and we will shortly send home a letter explaining how and when this will begin.

Outside School Hours CareIf you require any information regarding the Blackfriars Priory School OSHC and Vacation Care Program and enrolment forms for 2020, they are located in the Primary office.

Fashions on the Field in Reception To celebrate the Melbourne Cup the Reception class worked together with a Year One buddy to make colourful hats using craft materials. We think we look very glamorous!

Year 8 RetreatMonday 4 NovemberOn Monday the 4th of November, the year 8 cohort went to Bethany Conference Centre in Kensington for the annual year 8 retreat. We spent the day reflecting on the past and looked back to the start of the year when we were all new. We also reflected on the future, what we want to achieve and what we can change about the world. We participated in many activities that helped us to reflect on a personal level. Lastly, we wrote a letter to our future year 12 self. We all really enjoyed this activity and look forward to reading it later in our schooling. The morning tea of scones with jam and cream was delicious. We would like to thank all of the teachers who were

involved. We had such a relaxing and fun day away from the busy times of school and assignments.
