PRODUCTION STAFF: DIRECTOR | Penelope Notter CHOREOGRAPHER | William Schutte MUSIC DIRECTOR | Charles Hutchins STAGE MANAGER | Andrew Schneider THE STORY: Loaded with big laughs, colorful characters and the songs that made the ‘20s roar, Bullets Over Broadway is bringing musical comedy back with a bang. This six-time Tony-nominated musical is based on the screenplay of the acclaimed 1994 film by Woody Allen and Douglas McGrath. David Shayne is a straight-arrow playwright who plans to stand firm against compromising his work but quickly abandons that stance when his producer finds a backer to mount his show on Broadway. There's just one catch, however: the backer is a mobster who sees Shayne's play as a vehicle for his ditzy, talent-free girlfriend. Throw in an aging diva, a savant hit-man and a bevy of beautiful chorus girls, and this is one Broadway show that is sure to knock 'em dead! Bullets over Broadway is a love letter to the Golden Age of Broadway, filled with unforgettable songs that audiences remember and love. CASTING: Males and Females, age 17-50+; all ethnicities. CHARACTERS: DAVID SHAYNE An aspiring playwright who is determined to protect the integrity of his artistic vision. He lives with his girlfriend, Ellen, in bohemian Greenwich Village; exceptional comedic actor who sings well. Male, 25-35 (Vocal Range: Baritenor) HELEN SINCLAIR An aging diva with a huge ego and a recent string of flops. A talented dipsomaniac who dislikes the idea of being cast as more mature female characters. Grand and flamboyant, has been recruited by David Shayne for the lead in his play. Female, 35-45 (Vocal Range: Soprano Belter)

OLIVE NEAL The chorus-girl girlfriend of mob boss Nick Valenti, Olive’s dream is to become a real actress. Unfortunately she has no talent. Comedic actress, must dance.

Female, 20-30 (Vocal Range: Alto to Mezzo-Soprano/Belter)

CHEECH A hit man for mob boss Nick Valenti, has been told to keep an eye on Olive Neal during rehearsals. There he discovers his own talent as an artist, and rewrites David Shayne’s play-to much success. Must move well.

Male, 25-35 (Vocal Range: Baritone)

ELLEN The loyal, but long-suffering girlfriend of David Shayne; an artist herself, a maker of ceramics. Tired of being taken for granted by David, Ellen starts an affair with their mutual friend.

Female, 20-35 (Vocal Range: Mezzo Soprano/Belter)

JULIAN MARX A veteran Broadway producer of David Shayne’s play. In exchange for money needed to mount the production, Julian agrees to cast Nick Valenti’s untalented girlfriend Olive in the show.

Male, 50-60 (Vocal Range: Baritone)

NICK VALENTI A New York mob boss, and boyfriend of Olive Neal. Keeping good on his promise to make her a star, Nick has agreed to put up the money for David Shayne’s play – with the condition that Olive is cast in the show.

Male, 40-50 (Vocal Range: Baritone)

EDEN BRENT An aggressively perky actress. Her tiny dog, Mr. Woofles, is her constant companion. Comedic actress; moves well.

Female, 30-40 (Vocal Range: Soprano)

WARER PURCELL An esteemed theater actor, as well as a compulsive over-eater; has embarked on a very dangerous affair with Olive Neal; comedic actor, must move well.

Male, 35-50 (Vocal Range: Tenor)

ENSEMBLE Flappers, gangsters, bohemians, Cotton Club Dancers, Hot Dog Man and the Four Franks, maids, assistants, and understudies.

Male + Female, 17+ (Must be able to sing and dance, tap is a plus)

KAY A bohemian friend of David and Ellen. Female, 20-30

ALDO A henchman of Nick Valenti. Male, 20+

ATTA-GIRLS Featured ensemble singers and dancers in Nick Valenti’s club. Female, 17+

MITCHELL SABINE The Stage Manager of David’s play. Male, 30+

ROCCO A member of Nick Valenti’s gang. Male, 20+

SHELDON FLENDER A close friend of David and Ellen; passionate bohemian, values art over life. Male, 25-35

All auditions will be held at the Kretschmer Recital Hall at the Art & Music Center, located on the campus of Aquinas College. Scripts are available for check out at the Circle Theatre Box Office starting February 7, located at the Performing Arts Center, on the Campus of Aquinas College, Monday – Friday, 12:00-5:00PM, with a $10.00 deposit.
