• Gestural bullying is staring or turning away from someone. Intentional ignorance.

Bullying

Bullying is any ongoing physical or verbal mistreatment where there

is an imbalance of power.

It occurs in every school, but it’s the way it’s dealt with that makes the difference.

Inform your students:

• Know the characteristics of a bully, victim and bystander

• When/where bullying occurs

• Discuss bullying issues in the classroom

• How to deal with a bully, victim, or bystander

• Fair and consistent consequences

• Help to feel POWER in a positive way

• Build connections/use group work

• Deal with emotional triggers/build emotional language

• Use routine

• Always supervise!

How can a teacher help the victim?

• Encourage successful social interactions

• Teach them to use HUMOR and COURAGE when dealing with bullies

• Practice strategies of response

• Help them be part of a group

• Never tell them to ignore a bully
