(Canopy above) Dean Street Wall and climber screening truck access SUBJECT SITE The subject site is located on the corner of Great North Road (arterial route) and King Street in Grey Lynn. Dean Street borders the southern boundary. SITE CONTEXT The site is bordered by commercial activity on the northern, western and eastern boundaries. The southern boundary is characterised by residential villas and mid maturity front yard gardens DESIGN INTENT GREAT NORTH ROAD / NORTHERN BOUNDARY The landscaping in front of the cafe area will provide separation from Great North Road and provide amenity for pedestrians and cafe customers. The landscaping consists of Dietes grandiflora which will grow to 1.2m in the 400mm wide garden bed provided. The linear form of the Griselinia littoralis hedge compliments the architecture and provides additional amenity to the street frontage in an otherwise restricted urban space. KING STREET / EASTERN BOUNDARY The structure's eastern elevation will be softened by the introduction of a contemporary 'Green Shroud' treatment. A green shroud is a cable system fixed to the architecture enabling the climber 'Star Jasmine' to screen the building. Dietes grandiflora will provide an attractive landscape interface at the base of the climbers. DEAN STREET / SOUTHERN BOUNDARY The southern boundary landscaping exhibits a dramatic display of seasonal colour by using a Bonstan Ivy climber to disguise the truck access wall. Where allowed, this is further assisted with Titoki specimen trees trimmed to suit proximity to buildings. To break up the area a 4m Pittosporum hedge is planted in the narrow garden bed with a stretch of Lancewood. In most cases the garden beds are underplanted with Pseudopanax 'Cyral Watson' and Phormium 'Purple Haze'. PH:(649) 970 3488 FAX: (649) 970 3489 P O Box 11-832.
