BURBAGE PRIMARY SCHOOL CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN 2014 1 st December 2014 Dear Parents, Thank you to everyone for supporting the ‘Christmas Dress-up day’ on Friday. The children looked very festive and the gifts they brought in for the PTA Tombola will ensure the stall is a popular destination at next Thursday’s Christmas Fair. We look forward to seeing many of you there! Our thanks also go to Mrs McGarry, Mrs Renshaw, Mrs Smith and Mrs Ashbrook for putting on the excellent ‘Nativity 2’ Film Club on Thursday. It was enjoyed by all the children who attended. As this is such a busy time of year in school, we have put together this list of events for the rest of term. We hope you find it useful. The month of December – Burbage Primary School Christmas Postal Service is running. Children may post Christmas cards for their school friends and staff in our school post box outside the school office. (Please ensure they have the child’s full name and class on the envelope). Year 6 children will work on a rota to empty the box at lunchtime each day and deliver them. Final day for posting is Thursday 18 th Dec. The month of December – POSADA – Mary and Joseph – Classes will take it in turns to look after Mary and Joseph as they journey towards the Nativity service in Church on Christmas Eve. If your child offers to bring these special visitors home for the evening, please encourage them to write in the book what they did whilst having a sleepover at your house. A Children’s Society Christingle savings box is being sent home this week. http://www.childrenssociety.org.uk - We hope families will put in spare change and either send them in to school for Wednesday 17 th , or bring them to the Service that evening. Wednesday 3 rd December – last day for Woodpecker swimming Thursday 4 th December – Y5&6 School Trip to ‘The Wansdyke’ – see separate letter for details. Wellingtons, warm coats and packed lunch required. Thursday 4 th December - 6-8pm – Burbage Primary School PTA Christmas Fair Come along to our annual Christmas Fair, where you will be able to purchase gifts and crafts from stallholders whilst enjoying a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie. There will be: A fabulous Tombola, a number of class stalls and the school choir will be singing some festive songs. Thanks to Mrs Taylor’s letter, we are expecting Father Christmas to visit the school’s wonderful Grotto between the Kite and Kestrel classrooms. Thank you to families of children in Y5&6 for supporting them in their ‘enterprise projects’ this term. Help with setting up and clearing away would be much appreciated. Don’t forget to order Christmas Lunch from Sue Brady for next week… Don’t forget – no Maths Club today. Friday 5 th December – Choir visit to Jubilee Centre, Marlborough. Some members of our choir will be singing at the Jubilee Centre in Marlborough accompanied by Mr Max More from St John’s. Dear Parents,

Thank you to everyone for supporting the ‘Christmas Dress-up day’ on Friday. The children looked very

festive and the gifts they brought in for the PTA Tombola will ensure the stall is a popular destination at next

Christmas Countdown 2014!

The month of December – Burbage Primary School Christmas Postal Service is running.

Tuesday 9th December – Christmas Lunch

If you would like your child to have a Sue Brady Christmas Lunch, please place

your orders by Thursday 4th December. Order forms are available from the

school office or you may order online at http://suebradycatering.com/ Staff will

help serve this traditional, tasty meal and the PTA have provided crackers for every child

to help lunch go with a ‘bang’.

Wednesday 10th December – First week for Y5&6 swimming. (Plus Friday for Judo).

A NAMED Swimming kit and towel in a bag and warm coat are required.

Wednesday 10th December- 2.15pm – Good Companions Lunch

The children in Y5&6 and our school choir will entertain the diners after their Christmas meal at the Good

Companions Lunch in Burbage Village Hall. They will sing festive songs as well as sign two traditional

favourites. If your child is involved, please can they bring in a little tinsel or a Christmas hat to wear on this

occasion.

NO CLUBS 15-19th December

Tuesday 16th December – Y5&6 Swimming (plus Judo on Friday)

Tuesday 16th December – 1.15pm – Y2 Singing at Seymour Court

Another lovely singing event, our Chaffinch Class will sing a selection of their Nativity songs for the residents

at Seymour Court.

Tuesday 16th December –Woodpecker class school trip to Ufton Court – see separate letter

Wednesday 17th December- Junior classes - Christingle making in school

The children will make Christingles in school today in readiness for the Church Christingle and Service this

evening.. We will provide ribbons, candles, cocktail sticks and sweets, but please would you send your child in to

school with an orange on this day (not a Satsuma). If you are bringing any other children to the service, it would

be helpful if you could send in an orange for each child so that we have enough. NB: children will be made aware that

they will be given a Christingle at the event, but not to expect the exact one they made!

Wednesday 17th December – Infant Classes - Party Afternoon

Details will follow.

Wednesday 17th December – 6-7pm – Juniors’ Christingle and Carol Service

We hope that all children in Years 3-6 will be able to attend this candle-lit event (which is open

to all) at All Saints Church, Burbage. Families and friends are welcome. Classes will perform

their own festive songs and there will be carols for all to sing. Y6 will tell the story through

readings and poems and the choir will entertain us too. A Christingle will be given to every child

at the end of the service (If the weather is good enough, there will be a candle-lit procession

encircling the church). If your child has a prior commitment and cannot attend this event, please let their class teacher

know.

Thursday 18th December – 7pm – Mum’s Christmas Meal, School Hall

This is an opportunity for mums to share a meal together before the end of term. Mrs Firth will be wowing

the mums again with her fantastic cuisine. Tickets cost £15 and are available from the school office or direct

from Mrs Firth on 01672 811844.

Friday 19th December – 11am – Church Service

The children will attend a service at All Saints Church to celebrate the festive season.

SCHOOL FINISHES 3.15pm Friday 19th December

We would like to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a happy and healthy New

Year.

We look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 5th January 2015 when M&M Productions (a

Pantomime Troupe) will be visiting the school during the morning to show the classic ‘Sleeping Beauty’. Our

thanks go to the PTA for funding this festive event which will be an exciting and enjoyable start to the term.
