FAMILY ADDITIONS: Romeo, a Negrito baby joined our family, coming with his mother and father. The mother was very sick and unable to feed him. We were to keep him a short time until whe was strong, but there have been other problems and sicknesses, and he has al- W^m ready been here for 4 mos. With those gifts we purchased a yearling calf (which we barbecued), some badly-needed shoes for 17 children, and a few pairs of rants or shirts. To the rest we were able to give gifts out of boxes of nevr clothes and other items that have been given through the year and that we have saved for this time. Thank you to all of you who have sent the clothes and toys and other items. Thank you also to those v^.o hold us in their prayers. How we need those prayerst Our Christmas was a good one, with a good sririt among the children and involvement in activities. Besides school and church programs we had a special devotion time on Christmas eve, and vre baked about 2,000 cookies, many of them used as gifts to special friends and bus inesses, and many used for dessert on Christmas day. We also made popcorn balls and had a lot of good times together. All of our children were home, including Alfredo and Miichael, so we had a big crowd for a while. What a joy to remember the gift of God*s Son, our Savior, and to be able to enjoy it together with family and srecial friends. We had many special visitors that day. VISITORS: We thank tne LorH for visits from soecia" reorle at other times also. In Nov. \je had visitors from Tokyo Union Church in Jaoan. '.ijycliff Bible Translators are now working on literacy projects so the people will be able ^read the V/ord. Fray with us for the success of this project.

'fe are hanpy tc inform you that Bert has been chosen to be on a special committee for matchingchildren with adoptive parents. This is only for local adoption, at this time, but it is agreat honor t hat'he has been chosen for this position. This may lead to being on a committeefor international adoption some day.

We az<e also very haopy to announce the arrival, by adoption, of;^iss Jennalyn F. Fruitt Bureros, who arrived at our home on Nov.7, 1992, weighing about ?i lbs. Jordan had been praying for alittle sister and the Lord answered his prayer. Jacob is thrill-ed also. He says that she is their sister, not the other child-ren's sister. ^2ie looks a lot like Jacob when he was small, and is very easy to care for. The Lord knew that we needed ft'easy-to-care-for babies and all three have been that way. Pray B ^ ^with us that Jennalyn will grow to be a wonderful Christian 1lady. Jennalyn's mother was severely burned before she was born W B Jhfcniiif^and the father deserted the mother. She could not care for the W ^ Ibaby, so she has given her to us to care for. We received her ftwhen she was 5 wks • old. The adoption process is long and • - ;drawn-out and difficult. Please pray for facilitation of the l_ ; •We want to thank each one of you who so wonderfully and faith- | t ^ •. */ ^ 1fully suooort this work- We know some of you give sacrificially M I ^ Wl ' Iand we praise the Lord for the faith of all of you, that you are ||H - Itrusting the Lord to provide your needs and so are willing togive to help in this ministry. We would like to write each one ^of you personally and thank you, but that is an impossible task. ^Please realize that this thank you is said for each of you, andas we go through the monthly receipts we say a prayer for you. NEEDS: There are many needs, and many of you are in need as well. The Lord has promised to meet our needs and we trustto do that. For the last few months the funds have not been enough to meet all the needs, butthe Lord does keep His word. In Itec., by Christmas, the funds were gone. Abusines^oman inAnarri gave us 2 sacks of rice (60 kilos each), which, added to the rice we already had, wasenough to last until the money arrived in Jan. On Christmas day a group of young people andtheir sponsors from a church in Aparri visited, put on a little program, gave each child a sackof goodies and juice, and left us ft.,000.00 (one thousand pesos—approximately $^0.00), i^ichgave us market money for a few days, and medicine money. On Jan. la group from the sou1ACahout 5 hrs. awav, from the Church of Christ, visited and left us ft,200.00, again providingmarket money "when it was all gone. Each month for a few months, we have not been able to paysalaries at the end of the month, but the Lord is helping us catch up on that through you. Wealso have other new needs, such as parts for the car (250.00), towels, mats for cribs and beds, some surgeries (not emergency). The Lord knows the needs and we know He is and will provide inHis time. Thank you to each of you who have given to meet our daily needs and make it possiblefor us to care for the physical and spiritual needs of these children. We praise the Lord foryou, each one. May His blessings be abundant upon you, as you have so abundantly blessed us.

PUjSSAQBB PRCi-i Ai'X BERTGur Itear Friens: The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, aboundine- in love. Hewill not always accuse, nor will he harbor bis anger forever; he does not treat us as our sinsdeserve or reray us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above theearth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so farhas he removed our transgressions from us. Psalms 103:8-12how we praise the Lord for His love that goes beyond our sins, beyond our weaknesses, andolesses us in so many ways. In this new year we already have seen the Lord blessing and workingin our lives, in the children's lives, and in our outreaches. we thank each of you for vouroar* by •'/our faithful su^'^ort, •'rayers, letters and other wavs of involvement in this ministry.

like Jordan said the other day: "I'm not sad any more."^^^!/ '• /I asked him why and he said "I am sad that she is gone ^because I miss her, but how can I be sad when I know '•* ^she is with Jesus?" Jacob asked why she died and whenI^^told him that we don't always know why God does things ^ 0 155^the way He does, like not healing Jennalyn but takingher to be with Him instead, we know that God knows bestand we must just trust Him to do what is best. When heunderstood that God had done vihat was best, he wassatisfied, all still miss her so much and there isthat emntiness and acting In the arms to hold her. Butwe have felt the great loving comfort of our Lord, and .' '.In ifemoriam.have felt vour love and prayers as we bav<=> gone on with Jer-nalyn Pruitt Bureroslife and been able to adjest and continue in ministering at two monthsto the other children. \'fe want to exoress our sincerethanks to you who have sent words of S3rmpathy and the assurance of your orayers for us. Yourlove and concern have been a great comfort to us, as well as the comfort'of the Lord. We praisethe Lord for each one of you. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, therath*rr .-passion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so thatwe can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves have received from God."(II Cor. 1:3,^) His comfort has been great and novr we can be much more understanding and ableto comfort others as we have experienced this loss. Please continue to pray for us. All of thechildren loved Jennalyn greatly. She was a very special girl, like no other, and all weresaddened by her passing. But there was a definite feeling of peace among them as they knewshe had gone to be with the Lord, and we know that we will see her there again some day. Praisethe Lord for the gift of His son, Jesus, who died on the cross for our sins and was raised fromthe dead that we may have the assurance of eternal life, if we will follow Him.Fro.m the Forwarding Agents: ^Jany thanks for the many touching expressions of concern and loveand prayers offered for Bert and Flary and the boys and also for we grandparents.

His mother hadthought she would have to give him up for adoption so was so hspoy that she was able to bringnim home with the rest of the family. We rejoice vrith her also, although he is missed. We arealso so thankful that the mother is a Christian. Danny, an 8 mo. old Negrito boy, -was broughtbv the father, about h mos. after the mother died. Be -was very malnourished but is fine andhealthy now. Borma, also a Negrito, 18 mos., was brought by relatives because there was no oneto care for her. She was sickly and very thin, and had a hard time adjusting, but is doing finenow. She is too weak to stand, but ;-j111 soon be able to. Joey, 3 mos., was brought by themother after not hearing from the father, who had gone to look for work, for 4 mos. He is veryhealthy and strong, a sweet happy boy. In Feb. one of the girls 1^0 had lived in the Pome andrun away when v.'e were in the States, came asking our help as she vras 8 mos. pregnant and had nowhere to go. Her father had sent her ax^ay, her mother had passed away, and she was in need.On BJarch 23, Jacob's birthday, Korma gave birth to a healthy boy that Jacob named Nelson. &-cause she has no husband (she was raped) and no job, and no way to care for her son, she hasreleased him for adoption. She -will be going out to find a job soon.

SCHOOL is OUT and all the children are home for the summer. We now have 100 children at Lal-lo

Roy and Georgialee ^^yfield, vdth the Wcliff Bible Translators, have worked ' 1for about 30 years to get this New Testament done, ^ JThey began the work with the Negritos and we have m .f""::-....jjbuilt on their foundation as we have been involved * ' fin reaching out to the different Agta commnities.^i' i ^ !We rraise the Lord for their hard work over the ¥ y 'fjjjL -• , \ Jyears and for the wonderful convention we had. f ||i|||||V - -The sririt was wonderful, and the peonle excited >4about the Word. Thirty-five were baptized, many __of them already having received teaching in the 3word of God from our pastors who are working inthe different areas. We have outreaches in 5 icommunities and there were 10 communities repre- -I ^ '"1.sented at the convention. Many of the people do Baptisms at Agta Conventionnot yet know how to read. Please pray that thepeople will want to learn and that there will be those who can teach them, so that they can begrounded in t^e Word of God.

BLESSINGSt We praise the Lord for the wonderful way He continues to crovide our needs, throughyon, Pis pp^-nie. who fgithfijllv t'^ist.Him to meet voiir. peeHs ss you share in Pis work. Becauseof some very generous gifts have been able to get caught up on the worker's salaries, andsome other needs. We have been able to continue to put roofing on the extension of the chapelbuilding, honing it will be finished to use for classrooms when school opens in June. The Lordhas shown that if we trust in Him He will meet our needs. On Jan. 1, we were out of funds to domarketing. That late afternoon a group from a church in the Province of Isabela, the RoxasChurch, arrived and brought us some food stuff, as well as a donation which was enought for themarketing until our money arrived. Again in Feb., when we had reached the end, this same churchsent groceries and fresh vegetables and a money donation. This month, just as we finished therice we had, they brought us a bag of rice , enough until we were able to buy more. A Christiancouple in Ararri also gave us many clothes, some brand new, for the children, vve praise andthank the Lord for these brothers and sisters here, as well as all of you vdio are so faithfuland generous in your su-'oort for the Home and the outreaches. VH.thout your faithful giving andorayers we would not be able to serve the Lord in the ways we are. How we would love to standface-to-face with each of you and thank you, but on earth that will no be possible. But pleaseaccept our words of thanks. Some day in heaven you will see the fruits of your love and support,we also thank the Lord for another good rice harvest. Our own children helped a lot in theharvest and enjoyed it, and appreciated what they were eating. Please be in prayer with us for the Lord's leading in furlough plans, and for the needs we willhave when ve comie, probably next year. Again, thank you for all you do.

MESSAGES FROf-: MARY AND BERT

Our Dear Friends: You have probably heard that we have just recently had a typhoon (in June). It was quite a typhoon for those south of us, in the Province of Isabels. Vfe praise the lordthat it was not strong here, only knocking down our bananas once again. Many, many houseshave lost their roofs, or been destroyed, in Isabels, and many, many power coles are down anddestroyed. Vfe are thankful that our children studying in Isabela are all fine. Our problemfrom the storm comes in the form of no electricity. Even though we have darkness because oflack of electricity, it is not really dark because "...God is light; in him there is no darknessat all." (I John 1:5b) And because we have that light "we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that we may declare the praises of him whocalled us out of darkness into his wonderful light." (I Peter 1:9) How we do praise the Lordfor you >dio are such a part of this ministry and such partners in making the Light known tothese children and others who do not know Him. Vfe praise the Lord for His constant care andprotection, for His provision for our needs through you. Ihere are so many things to praise theLord for, the number one being that He gave His son, Jesus, the light of the world, to die forour sins and to bring us salvation and the hope of eternal life.WATER PROBLEMS: Vfe once again praise the Lord for the generator, a great blessing from you whogave for the purchase of it several years ago. So, we can have lights, on a part-time basis. Our problem now is that we have put in a submersible pump, which is 3-pHase, and our generatoris single phase. Vfe will be looking into buying a single phase pump, since we cannot pump waterand have to carry it—from down the hill. It takes gallons and gallons even though the childrenbathe at the hand pump, and the washing is done there. We are so thankful for the good attitude of our children in spending so much time carrying water. But they do not expect that thecurrent will come through before the end of the month, and that is a long time yet. Ihe children are getting tired carrying water (and the staff too). Ihe ironic thing is that we woretrying to drill a well with a new portable well driller given by a church in Guam. The wellwas to be for a hand pump to use when we could not use the electric pump I Wb are trying for awell near the house. We are very thankful for the driller, and do plan to put it to good use.It is to be used for the Negrito outreaches, as well as a help in supporting the Home at othertimes.

SCHOOL HAS STARTED! Vfe had a great sumsier, the children being good helpers and workers andhaving fun with trips to the river, going to camp, some of them busy teaching in VBS's, andthen having intramural ping pong and basketball. Arcenio is our champion ping pong player, withJox JoT^ in second. Now everyone is busy in school. Praise the Lord we were able to enrollJessie in Medical school in Ibguegarao, just l-j hours

There are 3studying in Manila mble Seminary, ^ inAparri Bible Seminary, 6 in high school in Isabela,in the mission-run high schools, and 2 in the local ^high school here. In our A.C.E. school we have 37 II jelementary and I5 kindergarten. J^es Paul is also Wback in his deaf school. Dennis, (our blind boy) isbeing taught by Hugh Kafton, idio is learning Braille ^ ^^^1so he can teach it to Dennis. That makes 70^ of our

tions that will come their way as^Satan tries^to keep 5'^used for our school and for Sunday School classes, isalmost finished. Vfe thank the Lord for providingfunds for it through many of you. Vfe also praise the Some of our big kidsLord that we have recently baptized 3 of our neighborsinto the Lord.

NEGRITO OUTREACH Vfe are rejoicing that those reached in the Negrito communities are growing inthe Lord. Since the Agta (Negrito) convention last March there has been a great growth in thenumber ^0 have accepted the Lord and been baptized. As a result there has been a real battlewith Satan, as he has attacked many communities. There was a great sweep of sickness and deathin one comrau^ty, especially among the children. Before these people knew the Lord they werespirit worshipers, sacrificing to the evil spirits when someone was sick. So Satan was nothappy idien^ they accepted the Lord and went to Him for healing. In one community there was onlyone Christian who could read. I had given her a Bible at the convention and she had been reading it and sharing it with the others, reading for them. The community was growing in theirfaith. Then she took sick, and after quite a time, even with all our prayers, she died. Butshe was a witness to the end, asking that the Bible be read to her when she was too weak toread, and the people in the hospital all knew of her faith. Praise the Lord that she and herhusband had become Christians, so that upon her death she went to be with the Lord.Vfe now have a new area, Aridawen, which asked for a pastor after the convention, and are aboutto complete the construction of their chapel. In Ganzano 5 more were baptized last Sunday.Pi^ise the Lord for the hunger for the Vford of God, and keep all these outreaches in yourprayers.

happenings; Here in Lal-lo two children, Rachel and Regie, went home for vacation andnever came back. We have followed up best we could and it seems the mother is with them, livingwith some relatives in another place. We have also received 3 more children, Michelle. 8,Reynaldo. 7, and Maculate. 1. Their last name is Jerusalem. The father was killed last Oct.and the mother had to look for work. Sie has found work, and hop)es to be able to get herchildren next year. Pray that they can learn of[the Lord's love while they are here.

We had another child xdio went Home. Sunday evening, June 20, Julio. 9 years old, suddenlywent home to be with the Lord. Julio came to us at 1 year of age, severely handicapped withCP, and had been abused as a baby. He had a tough life, seizures, etc.. Even though it wassad for us to lose him, we are so thankful for the fact that we know that he is with the Lordand not suffering anjnnore. He can now run and walk, talk, and sing. I am sure he has finallyfound joy, and that in the presence of our Lord.!We,, the Bireros family, had a good summer, as we went to visit Bejrt's family in Cebu, went toDavao for the annual missionary get-together, and visited a children's home on the island ofMindanao. It was very hard to leave for the trip, one that we had been excited about takingJennalyn on, but it was a blessing and a good break away for us which we badly needed. Thankyou so much to all of you for your words and cards of S3niipathy, and your prayers. They havebeen such a great help to us, as we have felt your love and the loving arms of the Lord aroundus. Thank you for remembering our folks also, as they also lost their granddaughter. Westill miss her, always will, but the Lord has brought us through and will continue to help us.In July we will be re-evaluated by the Department of Social Welfare and Developanent, to renewour accreditation. Please be in prayer with us for this. Espjecially pray that the love ofour Lord Jesus Christ will be seen. jVfe want to eaqaress our deepest gratitude to all, of you. for your generous and faith-ftil suppo-rt.for this ministry. MESSAGES FROM FiARI AND BERT

"As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered hishands, the Amalekites were winning. When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put itunder him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other-so that his hands remained steady till sunset." Exodus 17:11 & 12.

Here we read of a battle being won because Moses kept his hands up before the Lord. But we can-see that Moses could not have kent his hands un, and the battle would not have been won,if Aaronand Hur had not helped Moses. I wonder how tired their arms became as they helped Moses. Weoften receive letters and hear comments telling of the good work we are doing here. We praisethe Lord that He is with us and blesses our efforts. But we could not carry out this ministryif it were not for you Aarons and Hurs who help us—you who pray for us (how we need that I);you ^0 support us financially, some of you giving sacrificially (how we need thati); you whosend gifts of clothes, toys , etc. (how we need those I); those who support us in other ways; andour dedicated staff here (how we need them, and how they need prayer i)» The battle is notalways easy, but it can be victorious as we all work together, helping, upholding each other. How we praise the Lord for all of you Aarons and Hurs that make it possible for us to keep thisministry going and growing.

REPAIRS t In our last letter we commented that we were without electricity and water (typhoondamage). Great was our rejoicing that on July JO the current was back, in our area, as theNational Power Comoany repaired the main lines. (In some parts of Isabela Province there isstill no electricity as all the local lines are not yet repaired.) And, of course, with theelectricity came WATERi Ihe children and staff were so good and worked so hard carrying water, and we all learned to be more conservative and appreciative of water. We were able to drill 2hand pumps that helped a lot. We do appreciate the portable well driller, a gift from Christians in Guam.

GOVERNMENT APPROVAL In July we were visited by the Department of Social Wblfare and Developmentfor the renewal of our accreditation. There was some advice given, on the paper work, but forthe care of the children we were pleased to read "The children are obviously well cared for andloved by the administrators and staff." We were thankful for this chance also to show His lovethrough the 4 day visit. We will be visited again in Dec., when we will receive the papers ofaccreditation.

In August Cindy Moreton returned home to New Zealand. She felt the Lord sending her home, notknowing for what reason nor for how long. We appreciate all her help to us and pray she willbe back soon. Please keep her and her family in your prayers, as she seeks to do God's will inher life.

SORROW Late in August we were shocked and saddened by news of the death of our brother. MattLittell, serving the Lord with his family down in Cagayan de Oro. He was a wonderful man, andservant of the Lord. Many went down for the funeral and it was a time of rejoicing, even in thesadness of the loss, as we know Matt is with the Lord; he has received his reward. Please prayfor his wife, Peggy, and sons Ben and Aaron, and for his parents, Florence and Charles.

Here in the LAL-LO HOME we have received 3 new children, all Negri-tos. If you remember in the last news letter we told of a Christ-ian woman who died. Her youngest child, Jobanie, 18 mos., is nowin our home. His father and grandmother were having a hard time H' jjHkVsearching for food and caring for the baby. Delilah. 3 yns., came |fc; •pif"! *34from the same settlement. Her mother is a widow and having a hardtime. She also has some mental problems• Hvlin, 5 mos., came P'j ' "y'badly mal-nourished, but bright-eyed and busy. She is growing fast. ' IShe has oarents but the mother is sick with apparent TB, and they • ,1 f ?? 4needed help.

In the -• SATELLITE HOME (in Solano) there are no new children, butone boy, Rio. was able to go home with his mother. It is always _nice to see them go home, but we are always concerned of theirspiritual life. Pray that Rio, (5 yvs.) will remember the Lord's • 1love and as he grows that he will choose to walk in it. In Aug.we moved Peter and Paul from Lal-lo to Solano, where they could Jobanie and grandmotherjoin their brother, James. and be near their parents. These 3boys are triplets, brought to us at 1 yr. of age, but Peter and Paul looked like new-borns.James was bigger and stronger. We thought the 2 would die and because they were so weak we hadthem in La l-lo where we had a nurse. Praise the Lord they are now strong 4 yr olds, and enjoying being together.

AN HONOR: Bert has been selected to be on the Committee for the "Year of the Family", 1994. Hewas selected by the government as a non-govemment member. There are several on the committee, government and non-govemment. Please pray for him as he not only represents the Home, but alsorepresents our Lord. They are olanning activities to help the families of the country to allbecome self-sufficient and to progress.

AN IMPORTANT NEED; '/fe are so thankful we were able to do some major repair on the car, and itis now running well again. Eit it is old and it is rusting out in spots. We would like you tojoin us in praying for another vehicle. There are many times we could use two, and we feel weneed two so we can always be sure we have one in good running order. Kow we thank the Lordthat while our car was unable to run we had no emergencies. Truly He takes good care of us II think a new vehicle will cost aoproximately $10,000.

OUTREACH NEWS There is continued growth in the Negrito outreaches. Again we have startedreaching neople in another settlement and there is a hunger for the Word of God. Several havereceived Christ as Savior and been baptized. Pray for more workers to minister and lead inthe se areas. -We have received some funds from the Philippine Self-help Foundation to help insome of the communities for the jjeoole to become self-supporting.

SCHOOL NEWS In September we rejoiced as the Lord, working in His power, went ahead of us andgave us favor in the eyes of the Department of Education, Culture, and Sports, and we weregiven a permit for our school. This permit is good for 1 year, to be renewed before schoolstarts again next June, and on the 3rd year most likely to be recognized (permanent permit). It is an interesting story, space does not allow details, but we praise God for making itpossible I The school is doing well and we can see positive growth and change in our children. All of the children are doing well in their schooling.

We are planning to take furlough next year. Please pray for our schedule, for our needs (house, car, school, funds, etc•), and pray for us and the staff as we prepare to be gone for a while.FROM THE FORWARDING A(S1NTS: We would like to begin planning an itinerary. They will probablyarrive stateside in May, though there is no firm date yet. They will need a few weeks tosettle in and rest and have quality time with family, and get hold of cultural differences.

If you have any wishes or ideas, please communicate, and we will see how it shapes up. Pleasebe in prayer regarding this so that the time and effort and expense may be best expended, andso that those who are sent and those who send them may have the joy of fellowship and inspiration, and so that others may be challenged to enter the harvest fields or to assist those who go.

Please pray for peace of heart and mind for Bert and Mary as they make decisions and preparationsand assign responsibilities to others. Thank you for your partnership.

We again oraise the Lord for His wonderful nrovision for our needs. Our fruit trees have donewell. He has blessed our gardens with good yield (we even sold some to buy other vegetables),and we are ready to harvest some of our rice. >fe also praise Him for all of you and your lovingand faithful sunport and prayers, meeting our needs as you trust the Lord for your needs aswell. We are so thankful for you Aarons and Hurs. May the Lord richly bless you.

Here in Manila Christmas decorations are making an appearance, reminding us of the coming seasonwhen .we celebrate our Savior's birth. May we always remember in the busy-ness and activitiesof the season, the wonderful; gift of love the Lord has given us. He has blessed us all sogreatly, we have so much to be thankful for, and then the gift of His Son as well.
