A NEW SATELLITE

HOME BEGINS!

About three years ago, ayoung neighbor namedRoy came to Bert'sbrother (who lives at theAtvin Ray Carlson

Memorial Camp in Santander,Cebu) and asked if he could livewith them. Roy's parents hadseparated, gotten other partners, and left him with his grandmother. She could barely feed him andcould not send him to school. So

Senin and Nonong took him in.Later, a niece came with two ofher kids, Jerome (8) and JoAnn(10), asking for help to send themto school. They were added intothe family and we assisted themin doing this. In November, apastor brought two youngteenagers seeking help for themto go to school. The father of oneand mother of the other had died.

They are cousins and were livingwith their grandmother, but couldnot go to school. Now George(14) and Majula (16) are alsoliving in Santander at the camp. Our personal house there hasbecome the new Cebu Satellite

Dear Friends,

"For the foolishness of God Is

wiser than man's wisdom, andthe weakness of God is

stronger than man's strength."1 Corinthians 1:25

As I write this letter on April Pool'sDay, it is wonderful to know thatour God is no fool, and we canalways trust Him. We may thinkwe are smart or wise or strong {Ican do it myself), but we arenothing compared to God. Praisethe Lord that He uses all His wis

dom and strength to help us andto show His love for us, evenwhen we are fools!

TRIP TO THE STATES

Ofeiia had another good checkup. She continues to grow and puton weight. After a blood test tosee if her pituitary gland is working (which it seems to be), Ofeiiahas been put on four months ofpreliminary female hormones andwill make one more trip for an appointment July 30. Thanks to allwho took care of us while we were

in the States. Being in the family of God is such a blessing!

Lyia has beena great help to Kay and the children. A very nice memorial service for Dick was held on March 3.Many missionaries attended theservice, as well as many friends inthe area. We praise the Lord for

the assurance that Dick is in

heaven with Him. Please con

tinue to pray for Kay as shecarries on as the manager ofthe Solano Satellite Home.

SUMMER DAZE

Summer is here, and with it comemany activities! All the kids areinvolved in the daily work andspecial projects going on here atthe Home. The kids are gettingready to start a Ping- Pong tournament, thanks to a wonderful giftof funds for two Ping-Pong tablesand equipment! We ask yourprayers for us during these summer months, as all the childrenare home and about 30 children

are 12 years ol^nd above!

GRADUATES

We had several graduates thisschool year. At the SatelliteHome, Paula de la Paz graduatedfrom Philippine College of Ministrywith a Bachelor of Science in

Ministry. From the main home,Norman Paat graduated with anElectrical Technology degree. Hehas already done the wiring forour school building and otherprojects. Fely Battad graduatedfrom the local high school andReynaldo Mapili and Ruby Cos-tales graduated from the 6thgrade in our own JurisdiccionChristian Learning Center. Wealso had Nerina Tumaliwan, Diana Gabriel, Randy Tumaliwan,Roberto Gonzles, Nereza Sanchez, and Rea Sanchez graduatefrom kindergarten. There werethree graduates among our Special Help students. Joel Tomasgraduated from a vocationalcourse in Mechanics, Sonia Va-lera graduated from high school, and Gerry So/)od graduated from6th grade. Joel is keeping the vehicles in good running condition, and also helping with repairs inSolano.

SPECIAL HELP

Over the last few years we havetaken in several older children un-

April 20^der the category of Special Help. These are children who had previously lived here and then left orwent home. Since that time theyhave come back to us and have

asked for help to go to school, some living here with us andsome not. Joel and Sonia both

ace. in this category. Unfortunately,this- is not successful for each

child we try to help. Felipe Ra-baja (19) is one of these cases.Even though Felipe grew up herefrom two months to age 14, hewas very rebellious and had chosen to leave. Two years later hecame back and asked for recon

sideration so he could finish

school. With promises from him,we allowed him to try again. Hehas again fallen into trouble andwe had to tell him to leave. Duringhis time here he had accepted theLord and was baptized, but hasnow turned away from his commitment. Gerry Bubod, whocame at age 16, started at thethird grade level and completedelementary school in two years. He, too, has participated in unacceptable activity and is now dismissed as well. Please pray forthese young men to return tofollowing the Lord. We currentlyhave seven young people in ourSpecial Help category.

GOING UP

The second-floor construction of

our school building progresses, asfunds are available. We still need

a school administrator if anyone isinterested or knows of someone

who might be. A brother of one ofour teachers, a young man staying here and studying in vocational school, recently acceptedJesus as his savior and was

baptized! Pray for his continuedspiritual growth.

CEBU SATELLITE HOME

Please pray for this new Homeand the spiritual life there. Oneyoung lady has been sent back toher relatives because of unac

ceptable behavior.

"BY THE BUNCH"AH

In early January we received fourbrothers! Noel (8), Gerald (7),Jerick (5), and Jayson (3) camefrom a broken home. Their fatherwas injured in an accident andwas half-paralyzed. Their mothercould not carry

especially Jayson, JeiJayson. They are 'now healthy and strong andhappy to have the food, love, andcare they need. Then DianaGabriel (5) returned home afterliving one year with a family wethought would become her adoptive parents. It is hard to explainthe circumstances, but she endedup coming back, but not becauseof problems. She is very happy tobe back and told us her vacation

was too long! Toward the end ofJanuary we received 3 mo. oldidentical twins, Novie and NicoleJuan. They are here because ofpoverty, and their parents areworking toward bringing themhome again. They were somewhat thin, but we are glad theirparents brought them before theywere seriously mal-nourished.Federico de la Cruz (5) alsocame about the same time. Aban

doned by his mother as an infant, his grandmother, who can nolonger care for him, had beenraising him. Next came HazelValera (2) from a messed up family and was mal-nourished. Wehave had other relatives of hers

through the years. She is nowsmiley and fat. Dianne Cababag(6) and Poping Abuyoan, Jr. (2)were adopted in January andMarch. Dianne is now in Michiganand Poping in Holland. We missthem very much and it was hardto say good-by. We are happythat they now have a forever fam-ily. Ruhami (2) and Meldrid (our

OUR VICTORY IS IN CHRIST

A lot of children come and go, andbecause of your love and generosity we are able to help them all.We give them physical care andspiritual food and training in thetime they are here. Some are nothere long, others most of their developing years. Please pray for usas we train these children up inthe Lord. Satan constantly fightsagainst us, but our victory is inJesus Christ. The battles are

sometimes tough, discouraging, draining, and painful. But the victories that we have, seeing thechildren change and grow in theLord, and what we learn from thebattles, of faith in God and to trustHim, are all so wonderful! Keeppraying for the children and forall of the staff.

AGTA HOUSE FINISHED

In January we were able to startbuilding the rest house for visitingAgta. It is constructed in a mannertypical of Agta houses, a nativeopen style, as they do not likebeing confined inside. We nowhave an Agta man and his familyliving there, and they will be responsible to care for those whomay need to spend the night because of illness or traveling. Thehouse is near us, but far enough

away to protect the children fromtheir illnesses. We want to thankall of you who have donatedfunds to complete this project. We are grateful to CEDAR inHong Kong for making it possibleto continue to send 50 children toschool this last school year. Therewere some 6th grade graduates, and several students receivinghonors or awards. There aremany more Agta children whowould like to go to school if anyone is interested in this project. The Annual Agta Conventionwill be taking place in late April.Pray for those who are planning, working, and hosting this event.

PERSONAL FAMILY NEWS

Satan loves to attack our weakareas and will try to destroy theLord's work by using the Lord'speople. Right now we are havingsome serious attitude problemswith Jordan, and Jacob is following close behind. Because ofuncontrolled anger, Jordan hasgotten himself in trouble, and weare not quite sure at this momentwhat will happen as a result. Please pray for healing for whatcaused his anger, for our familyas we work through this, and forJacob to see the dangers andchange his ways. He loves andadores his big brother and followshim blindly. We may need professional help and ask you to bepraying for us. Pray for victory inJesus and also for great spiritualgrowth for all of us through thistrial.

OUR APPRECIATION

Thank you so much for your love, support, prayers, and gifts to thechildren and to us. We are awarethat you give sacrificially as wellas out of your abundance, and weso appreciate you. May the Lordbless each of you.

To our Dear Friends,

"No king is saved by the sizeof his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength.A horse is a vain hope fordeliverance; despite aii itsgreat strength it cannot save. But the eyes of the Lord areon those who fear him, onthose whose hope is in hisunfailing love, to deliverthem from death and keepthem alive in famine."

Psalm 33:16-22

OUR HOPE IS IN THE LORD

Just as all of you who arereading this have been hurt, stunned, angered, and upsetby the events of September 11.so have we. Some of you mayhave lost family or friends inthe recent terrorist attack.Praise the Lord that the U.S.has a President who believesin Him and turns to Him forwisdom. But as the aboveScripture says, it is in the Lordwhere our hope needs to be.Then we can trust we will beokay no matter what happens, because His eyes are on us.This is true in our personallives as well as in the greaterworld picture.

LEARNING TO ADJUST

These last three months havebeen very different for our family. Having never lived in the

CONCERNS FOR SAFETY

One of our concerns is what

SO MUCH TO DO

Thank you forpraying for those incharge at CVCHwhile we are in the

States. We are

grateful there havenot been any bigproblems. But thestaff still needs yourprayers. Making allthe decisions and

seeing to the dailytasks that they are not used todoing is a big job for them. Weknow things will not be doneexactly the same as when wewere there, but we trust thestaff into the Lord's care andguidance.

nila, where there was no reportof tumors, butapparently theleukemia is doingthis to him. Pleasekeep him in your pray-ers.

STAFF POSITIONS

We are still in need^ of two Christian

social workers, anurse, and a schooladministrator. The so

cial workers and

nurse must be

Filipino, but the administratordoes not. Please keep theseneeds in your prayers. We arealso in need of someone toteach American Sign Languageto Biveriy (2 yr.), and also toeveryone else so communication can take place.

For those of you who have increased giving to help us, wethank you. For the new giversand supporters, we thank you.For the steady supporters, weare so thankful. We praise theLord for each one of you. With all of us working togetherthe Lord's work will go forward!

In Christ's love.
