Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to visit our spectacular art exhibition in the hall last Friday evening. Each year the standard of the work the children produce during art week seems to get better and better and this year was no exception. I am very grateful to Mrs Baker, who leads the art curriculum across the school, for her hard work in providing staff with lots of ideas and links to artists whose work fitted with their current class themes. Many of the children had their sketch books on display as part of the exhibition. We are working hard to encourage the children to experiment and develop their skills in these books and it is clear that they are beginning to do this effectively. Mrs Baker has a clear vision of how we can support the children to be imaginative and creative but also to help them develop the skills they need to execute their artistic ideas with greater proficiency i.e. colour mixing, shading in various ways, brush techniques and composition and perspective. Of course my thanks must also go to the children and the staff team who enjoyed their ‘arty’ week and produced such a range of fabulous work. Well done to all!!

‘The Adventure Awaits…’

Bures has Definitely got Talent!

Thank you to all parents and carers who took the time to

visit our spectacular art exhibition in the hall last Friday

evening. Each year the standard of the work the children

produce during art week seems to get better and better

and this year was no exception. I am very grateful to Mrs

Baker, who leads the art curriculum across the school,

for her hard work in providing staff with lots of ideas

and links to artists whose work fitted with their current

class themes. Many of the children had their sketch

books on display as part of the exhibition. We are working hard to

encourage the children to experiment and develop their skills in these

books and it is clear that they are beginning to do this effectively. Mrs

Baker has a clear vision of how we can support the children to be

imaginative and creative but also to help them develop the skills they

need to execute their artistic ideas with greater proficiency i.e. colour

mixing, shading in various ways, brush techniques and composition and

perspective. Of course my thanks must also go to the children and the

staff team who enjoyed their ‘arty’ week and produced such a range of

fabulous work. Well done to all!!

SHOEBOX APPEAL

As Wonderland (year 6) school council representatives we got the

opportunity to go to St Johns Ambulance (Hadleigh warehouse)

to help out, pack and check some of over 4000 shoeboxes! It was

surprising to see how many people gave up their time to help the

children who are less fortunate than us.

It made us smile that we were also helping

those children. From our school there were

52 shoeboxes!!!! Thank you for donating to

the Operation Christmas Child, please remem-

ber to not include toothpaste, sweets or any

liquid next year. Please visit the Operation

Christmas Child website for more infor-

mation.

Collective Worship

In celebration of ‘World

Children’s Day’ on 20th

November, we started our

worship week on Monday with

a discussion about children’s

rights. We went on to explore

some of the contributions

children, who had needed to escape from harm and had

migrated to America or Britain from other countries, had made

to their new homelands.

On Tuesday we learnt our first new Christmas hymn in our

singing assembly!

Wednesday’s assembly was led by Mrs Bennie who talked about

the rule of law once again but this time focused on the passage

in the Bible where Jesus highlights the two most important

commandments for Christians —Love the Lord you God with all

your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbour as you love

yourself.

Rev Trish led our collective worship on Thursday. She thanked

all the children who had shown their love for their neighbour by

bringing in their shoeboxes. We watched a video of children

receiving the shoeboxes in previous years. It was amazing to

see how excited and thrilled they were to receive such simple

gifts from friends far away.

Road Safety

In the absence of a formal pedestrian crossing

outside the School, the Parish Council are asking

for the views of parents and the school community

about the metal barriers on both sides of the road

by the car park. Whether they provide a helpful

crossing point for parents and children, and should

be retained, or whether they create a potentially

dangerous formal crossing impression to drivers

and ought to be removed.

Please can I ask that all responses in this regard

are sent to Tim Fairbairn, at Oak Tree Cottage,

Sudbury Road, Bures, Suffolk CO8 5JT or to tim-

[email protected].

PSA NEWS

Bures Christmas Lights Switch On and Fair

Please come along and support our fundraising stalls at Bures Christmas Lights Switch On and Fair

on Saturday 30th November from 6-8pm. Look out for our stall on The Common where we will have

some Christmassy games to play and then pop into the Church for a warming glass of Mulled Wine.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible. If you are able to spare an hour to help us

set up or run either of our stalls, please speak to Helen Foster.

Jam Jars

We are still looking out for a few more jam (or similar sized) jars with lids please. If you have any

to spare over the coming week, please pass them to Helen Lane or drop them into the school office.

Christmas Disco

On Monday 16th December, we will be holding a Christmas Disco for the children. Please save the

date and look out for further details in your child's book bag over the next few days.

The Sun/Sun on Sunday - Books for Schools Promotion

Please help us to get a free pack of 106 books (worth over £600) for our school by collecting the

Books for Schools tokens printed in The Sun and The Sun on Sunday. The books included within the

pack cover a diverse range of subjects from fairy tales to football, from camping to crocodiles and

from wild cats to worms - there is really something for all ages and abilities. Tokens will be printed

in The Sun and The Sun on Sunday between Saturday 23rd November and Saturday 18th January

and can be dropped off at the school office or at Bures Post Office. Please share this request with

friends and family to help us collect the number of tokens we need.

Waitrose Bag Pack

We will once again be helping customers to pack their Christmas shopping at Waitrose in Sudbury

on Sunday 22nd December from 10am to 1pm. This is sure to be a fun and festive morning, as well

as an important fundraising event for us, so it would be lovely to see as many children and parents

as possible giving an hour of their time to support us. If your child would like to come along, please

complete the consent form (which was sent out in book bags this week) and return it to the school

office by Friday 7th December. Thanks in advance for your support.

St Mary's Church—Stepping Stones

Come along with your toddlers and little ones to Stepping Stones at St Mary's Church on

Wednesday at 2.15 pm. 20 mins of fun, songs and a bible story then lots of play and teas

and coffees before school pick up. See you there .... Revd Tricia
