Pg. H2-H3 Latitude lines run East to West around the globe. **However, they measure how far North or South a

place is from the Equator. Another name for latitude lines are parallels._____________________________________ Longitude lines run North to South. **However, they measure how far East or West a

place is from the Prime Meridian. Another name for longitude lines are meridians.

Pg. H7 A compass rose gives the 4 cardinal directions. (Draw a compass rose below.) A map scale shows how far apart places are on a map.

Pg. H4 Maps are distorted because it is impossible to put a

round object (like a globe) on a flat surface (like a map) without distortion.

Ex: Greenland looks much bigger on a map. Ex: Antarctica looks much bigger on a map.

What it is: The study of people, communities, and landscapes.

What Human Geographers Study: CULTURE!! Why people live where they do; What jobs people do; etc..

What questions they would ask: Why do people live in clusters around the Earth? Why do people move from place to place? Why do people eat the foods that they eat? Etc…

What it is: The science of making maps

What Cartographers study: Maps Physical geography! Technology Latitude and longitude

What questions they would ask: How can I use technology to make maps better? Can I use computers to make maps available to more
