He started his career at KPMG/BearingPoint where he focused on delivering business and technology solutions to Fortune 500 clients. Mr. Vandenberg is the Director of Claims Analytics and Business Intelligence for Farmers Insurance. He manages a team of business intelligence professionals responsible for operational reports, advanced analytics and data mart management for the claims enterprise. Prior to joining Farmers, he was a Management Consultant for Accenture LLC, dedicated to the P&C insurance industry. Mr. Vandenberg is a seasoned insurance industry insider. His career includes 25 years’ of experience with global insurance !rms, holding various operations management roles in brokerage and P&C underwriting companies. His global experience includes signi!cant work on domestic and international programs and product development in the UK, Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Mr. Vandenberg also served as a Product Development Manager in the UK and a broker at Lloyd’s of London. Mr. Vandenberg holds MBA and Masters of Computer Information Systems degrees from the University of Denver.
Advanced analytics that support human decision-making processes is one of the most valuable business innovations to be created from the intersection of low cost computing power and the science of data mining and machine learning developed over the last 25 years. Initial skepticism from the executive suite has turned to a full speed drive to incorporate models into traditional business processes, mostly with little awareness of the challenges and disruptions inherent in marrying data and algorithms to people doing work. Mr. Shaffer holds a BM and MM degree from the University of Cincinnati and an MBA from Xavier University where he was the winner of the 2006 Graduate Student Scholarly Project in Research.
