ABSTRACT

Human activities are increasingly complex, resulting in stress. Stres can also take

place within a short or prolonged. If the short is usually not a big problem but when the

length and can not be in control then it can bring negative effects such as depression, heart

disease and so on. Efforts to decrease stress levels can be done in various ways such as by

maintaining a pet. Hamsters differ from other pets such as rabbits, dogs and cats that can

cause the unpleasant smell and require large cages. Hamster development efforts have been

made. However, these efforts are still limited. Hamster is an animal that much admired by

everyone especially children to be kept. Therefore the opportunity to open a business of cattle

hamster is still wide open.

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

1.1 Background of The Study

Human activities are increasingly complex, resulting in higher stress levels. Final

High School students that in fact it is part of the community system was experiencing similar

problems. Levels are increasingly difficult lesson, his solid high school schedule to make his

or her level of stress for students. Stress is defined as a psychological state that is

representative of typical and problematic transactions between person and environment.

While the nature of the source of stress in psychological approaches are all conditions or

situations that exist in the lives of everyday life.

Stress reactions which emerged following the stress faced by the reaction can be

either physical, psychological and behavior. Stress can also take place in the short term or

prolonged. When short, usually not a big problem but when the length and can not be

controlled then it can create negative effects such as depression, heart disease, shortness of  breath and so forth.

Efforts to reduce levels of stress can be done in various ways such as by maintaining a

pet. Based on the results of research Karen Allen, a researcher and professor of the University

of New York at Buffalo, said that people view their pets as a source of valuable and

important in social support.  Under conditions of stress may be a better person with pets,

found also that a person who has a pet, it turns out there is a low stress level, even lowering

the average death rate of heart attacks. The presence of pet alleviate the effects of stressors on

heart rate, blood pressure and accelerate the recovery of the fundamental level. Pet lower

stress levels by presenting a "nonjudgmental companionship", support is difficult to do by a

friend or even a spouse. "As much as any person we believe we are in a position, always no

assessment or evaluation," said Allen (Benson, 2002).

Hamster is one type of pet animals kept by humans. Hamster (Mesocricetus auratus)

were first discovered in 1930 by Aharoni, a professor of Zoology University of Hebrews,

Jerusalem. In its development later domesticated hamsters that today has become a pet. As

pets, hamsters are cute animals, adorable, and benign.

Hamster is a lot of interest by everyone especially childrens. With these animals we

can take the opportunity to open up the cultivation of hamsters. Maintenance of hamsters was

relatively easy, does not require a large land area. Hamsters are nocturnal creatures (active at

night, sleeping during the day), so it is suitable for the society at its general and especially the

students at a solid level of activity in the morning.

meet one of the requirements for completing studies at SMAN 1 Baleendah, namely:

1.  To know the basic things necessary or hamsters are known to start cultivation.

2.  To know the techniques and how good that can be applied in the treatment and

 breeding hamsters.

3.  To provide information to people who want to run this business.

4.  To expand the market segmentation in the hamster.

1.4 Methodology

In preparing this paper, the authors use several methods to collect data. The methods I use are

as follows:

1.  Methods References

Through this method, the authors obtain the data by collecting information from the

Internet or other media that will be used as additional reference materials in the

manufacture of this paper.

LITERATURE REVIEW

2.1 Definition of  Hamster

The word 'hamster' comes from the German language is hamstern which means to

2.4 Anatomy of Hamster

To get to know the hamster should we need to understand the anatomy of the hamster's body.

By understanding the anatomy will know that the hamster is not a mouse let alone a rabbit.

1.  Body

Hamsters have a strong shoulder and an elastic body. These conditions make

hamsters known as diggers soil (sand) that reliably and efficiently when

making burrows (holes) to hide. Her body is very flexible to make the hamster

can entry into a burrow fairly narrow as long as the head can go first. In fact,

hamsters can spin on it so that changing the current position in the burrow.

2.  Stomach

Hamster stomach consists of two rooms. Therefore, the food consumed is not

directly be digested. Foods that entry first in the first room, then be digested

in the second room which become the main room in the belly of the hamster.

3.  Foot

Hamsters have two pairs of legs are short and strong with a number of fingersas much as five pieces on each foot, front and rear. However, there is little

difference in the ability of a pair of front feet is stronger than a pair of rear

legs. Therefore, the hamster is known as a strong climber and a excellent .

Forefoot agility is exploited almost to perform actions such as jumping and

acrobatic somersault. strong legs also makes become a good hamster as an

animal escape. This skill is very useful begi hamster to escape when attacked

 by predators.

4.  Skin

Hamster skin is very pliable. Therefore, the hamster can constrict skin

as a way to escape when there is catching . As reactive measures (resistance),

the hamster will soon bite the human want to catched . this trait are very useful

for the mother hamster when hone children. Hamster parent to easily bring

their children out of the nest by biting the skin of the upper neck.

5.  Eyes

Hamster's eyes as if looking great, but the eye does not have the ability

to look good. That is because the eye color blind hamsters. The location of the

hamster's eyes are in addition to the head so hamster have a wider visibility.

This is one of the advantages that eye hamster can view of the movement in

all directions.

Hamster eye color can be classified into three, namely red, ruby, and

black. Furthermore, of the three colors appear gradation colors or color

combinations such as between the red and black or between ruby and black.

Eye color is what makes the hamster look pretty and beautiful. At night and

dark conditions, the color of the eyes will light up when exposed to visible

lights.

6.  Ear

Hamster ears are very small, sometimes not visible because the thick

fur. Although short and small, have the privilege of the hamster ear into

hearing a very sharp tool. Therefore, hamsters were able to detect even very

subtle sound. Hamster to communicate with each other within the scope of the

ultrasonic sound waves. For the mother hamster was take care her

children, that things it can prevent his enemies to find the nest. Hamster

children will are protected.

7.  Cheek Pouch

Hamster had the cheek that could in make function as the pocket.

Cheek skin that flexibel made hamster female could carry food and the nest

material if giving birth. With the pocket of this cheek, food that in received

could be brought to the nest to in accumulated as food supplies.

Page 13: Business Opportunities in Hamster Cultured

8

Moreover, the pocket of the useful also cheek for the defence himself

that is to frighten the enemy. Hamster would menggelemungkan his cheek

when meeting or being attacked by the enemy. His method by taking a walk in

the fresh air totalling- the number and megumpulkan him in the mouth and his

two cheeks. As a result, the face hamster will widen and to looked bigger than

his original measurement. When increasing the measurement of the face

hamster could reach 1/3 the measurement of his body and widened exceeded

his shoulders. The enemy will then think twice to prey on hamster.

8.  Tooth

Teeth also became the typical characteristics main hamster. Hamster

had two pairs of series teeth. One pair was located on the upper jaw of the

front and one pair still was located on the underside lower jaw. These series

teeth could continue to grow and get long while living hamster. Therefore,

hamster had the habit to bite wood or the other hard object to sharpen his teeth

in order to not grow too long. Too long teeth were risky cause difficulties for

hamster when biting his food.

Apart from two pairs of series teeth, hamster also had 12 teeth that

grew in his jaw interior. The twelve teeth were compiled into three teeth on

the left-hand upper jaw, three teeth on the right-hand upper jaw, three teeth on

the left-hand lower jaw, and three teeth on the right-hand lower jaw. these

teeth (especially series teeth) that made hamster was classified as the rodent.

9.  Moustache

The moustache hamter was useful as aids to feel. This moustache grew

many and long. As the navigation implement, the moustache or misai this

really remained silent hamster to go and live as the active animal tonight. In

English, misai this was mentioned with viblisse that meant the implement

 bentu to feel the vibration.

METHODOLOGY

The research method is study literature. This research was conducted through the methods of

collecting data through the internet as well as books related to the topic of research in the

analysis.

According Gorys Keraf (1997:165) study literature is:

"Data collection methods that make use of books or literature as reference material to obtain

the conclusions or opinions of the experts to come to the conclusion that the method itself."

CHAPTER IV

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Why now often was encountered sellers hamster? The traders hamster emerged of

course because of having the request hamster. Now hamster like that was as the pet.

Actually what is interesting from a hamster? For hamster lovers there are many

compelling of this hamster. Body shape that makes it look small and cute so cute. Especially

the animal is classified tame and not wild so that children and women are not afraid to play

with a hamster. Fur is thick and attractive color (brown, black, white, and combinations) are

quite compelling any person to touch and look at it.

For some people, seeing or playing with the hamster can reduce the stress. Under

conditions of stress may be a better person with pets, also found that people who have pets,

there was a low stress level, even lowering the average death rate of heart attacks. The

presence of pets relieve the stressor effects on heart rate, blood pressure and accelerate the

recovery of the fundamental level. Pets decrease stress levels by presenting a "nonjudgmental

companionship", support is hard to do by a friend or even a spouse. It is not surprising that

many adults who care for entertainers hamster heart in the face of mental s tress. In addition,

the easy way maintenance is the reason people make the hamsters as pets.

Things that make the hamster started much in demand. The price is not expensive to

be an animal lover this is another reason. In fact, for children to buy enough to put aside

money received a few days can bring to go hamster and cage.

In addition to pet, hamsters are also well used as experimental animals. Some

researchers use a replacement hamster mice (mice) for research purposes in laboratories. In

fact, some members pointed out the hamster's body is used to manufacture the raw materials

Chinese medicines.

That's what makes the market demand for animal hamster is generally quite stable. In

fact, in certain months hamster demand to rise sharply, such as school holidays where many

children are tempted to keep the hamster to fill the holiday. At peak demand, traders hamster

sometimes out of stock to meet market demand. What's more merchants that do not breed

(breed) own hamster of course be difficult to get supplies hamster. Traders must buy into the

farmer-rancher hamster to other regions.

Page 16: Business Opportunities in Hamster Cultured

11

Unmet demand hamster is a hamster breeding business opportunities. Cultivation

techniques are easy and effort capital are not great to be contributing factors to initiate efforts

to maintain this hamster. For traders, business opportunities are not limited to the hamster.

Traders can increase profits by selling knick-knacks such as maintenance of hamster

sometimes, food, home supplies and accessories (various tools) game for the hamster. In fact,

if we are keen to open a business as well as a special salon hamster. For the last thing we

need to be sure in advance about the potential for hamster lovers (the devotee) in our region.

Before starting a business of cattle hamster things that need to be ascertained is

1.  Make sure the whole family can love the hamster because not everyone can accept

the presence of these animals.

2. Are there family members who are allergic to animal fur because it has a thick fur.

In captivity start, choose a good hamster breeders is the initial capital and a major factor in

the success of cultivating. Therefore, we must be able to choose either to be farmed. Here are

things to consider when choosing a (purchase) hamster breeder

1.  Choose a healthy hamster.

The characteristics of a healthy hamster include the lively, fresh, thick fur, and no

loss, eyes shining, there is no any lumps in his body, and the dirt is dry and not

smelly.

2.  Choose a hamster from womb one type.

Choose hamster from types womb, do not choose who comes from mating sires

mixture. More mixed results of womb breeders produce offspring that are not

 potentially good.

3.  Choose a hamster that had been adult.

hamsters had reached adulthood and are ready to be mated when approximately 3

months of age. To that end, ask the age of the hamster to be purchased to the seller. It

would be better if the sire is already producing one or two times so we can see the

results prolific . By selecting breeders ready to mate, we do not need wait too long to

see results.

Page 17: Business Opportunities in Hamster Cultured

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/business-opportunities-in-hamster-cultured 17/21

12

4. Not must be couple.

Breeders should not buy couple. Hamsters can mate with another couple in love, so in a

single breeding males do not need much. Comparison ideal for female and male parent is

4-6:1. When choosing a male or female should be careful.

After observing the things to consider when selecting sires, we can buy a hamster breeders

ready to mate as many as 25 tails with a ratio of 4: 1 to ada20 tail females and 5 males. The

purchase price of tailed an hamster Rp 50.0000,00. Then based on the developmental stage of

manufacture hamster cage can be classified into:

A.  Breeding Cages

This cage was useful for the maintenance sires in the process of breeding. Here

hamster was maintained and treated until before the marriage. The method reproduce

hamster that is with entry siler female to the stud cage, not was the reverse. Why was

like this? Because hamster female more will submit if was in the hamster male cage .

This cage could measure 90 x 90 cm could accommodate 25 tails sires hamster with

the comparison 4: 1.B.  Maternity Cages

After marriage , male hamsters transferred to another cage and the female hamster

cage move to maternity. This enclosure is used sires for maternity. Therefore, the cage

is made insulated so as not to interfere with each other between sires. Maternity cages

can be made with a length of 100 cm and sealed measuring 15 x 15 cm with the top

and base made of wire strimin, and on the wall using the wood. When caring for an

increasing number of pregnant hamster food and beverages so that the necessary

supply of nutritious food and vitamins in order to reduce the risk of miscarriage and

premature. The gestation period hamster on average 18-21 days (depending on the

type of hamster).

C.  Rearing Cages

This enclosure is used to raise children after weaning hamster parent (parent does not

drink milk dai) or after 2-week-old baby. This enclosure can be no partition size of

100 cm. The top and base made of wire strimin while the walls are made of wood.

13

We ourselves would know that a business can not be separated from the various factors of

production. Meanwhile, the factors of production are always changing according to market

developments. For this reason, we must be careful in assuming to reduce losses to play that

will happen. The following analysis of the cultivation of hamster.

Assumptions

1.  The breeder to take care hamster ready to mate as many as 25 tails with a ratio of 4:

1, so there were 20 females and 5 males tail.

2.  Price to buy a hamster Rp 50.000,00.

3.  The cost of making the enclosure (enclosure perkembanganbiakan, maternity,

enlargement) and Rp 500.00,00 equipment.

4.  The cost of feed for 25 sires per month Rp 150,000.00.

5.  The cost of vitamins and medicines per month Rp 50.000,00.

6.  Home care costs (electricity, replace the basis, wash the cage) Rp 25,000.00.

7.  In the one year hamster gave birth to 6 times with an average birth as much as

8.  The selling price one hamsters of Rp 15.000,00 .

9.  1-year maintenance period.

Cost of Investment

1.  Sire seeds (25 x Rp 50.000,00)

= Rp 1.250.000,00

2.  Cage and Supplies

= Rp 500.000,00

Cost Operating in One Year

Cost Operating

= 12 month x (feed costs + drug costs + vitamins and home care)

= 12 x(Rp 150.000,00 + Rp. 50.000,00 + Rp 25.000,00)

= Rp 2.700.000,00

14

Income in One Year

Sales of hamster (20 x 8 x 6 times) x Rp 15.000,00 = Rp 14.400.000,00

Profit in One Year

Profit = income – (Cost Investment + Cost Operating)

= Rp 14.400.000,00 – (Rp 1.750.000,00 + Rp 2.700.000,00)

= Rp 14.400.000,00 – (Rp 4.450.000,00)

= Rp 9.950.000,00

In other words, the income of farmers per month is Rp 829,000.00.
