Anniversaries provide an excellent opportunity not only to reflect on the past but also to contemplate the future. Firstly, I would like to share with you some of the success which BUUIC has experienced during its first decade of existence. The number of enrolled students has jumped from only 33 students our first year to 1,021 students currently studying in one of our

undergraduate programs leading to a BBA, BA, or BFA degree. Our student body presently includes more than 200 foreign students representing 20 countries. From an institutional perspective we are becoming increasingly global through our

partnering with many institutions around the world. Among these are a 2+1 double degree program in International Business Management with Montpellier Business School, (Sup de Co), France, a joint 2+2 double degree program with Appalachian State University, North Carolina, USA, another 2 + 2 double degree program in Hotel and Tourism with TRISAKTI, STIPRAM, SAHID, Indonesia and finally a 2 + 2 double degree program in Marketing with UIB, Batam, Indonesia. We have also expanded our capacity for cooperative education by establishing programs with Shelton College, Singapore, and IMI University, Switzerland. In addition we are partnering with the Sheraton Hotel in Krabi and the Centara Hotel in Pattaya. Finally we are participating in a special distance learning program in the form of a Global UnderstandingCourse with Appalachian State University, Beijing International Study University, Ching-Yun University, Taiwan and Duy Tan University, Vietnam.

We are proud of the facilities which BUUIC can provide its students including the modern classrooms equipped with the latest technology in support of the highest quality of teaching and research. Looking toward the future the BUUIC International House presently under construction will accommodate 400 male and 600 female students as well as 20 professors once it is finished sometime around February 2015.

However now is certainly not the time to rest on our past accomplishments. Instead we are ready to embark on a new period of reinvention as we strive for excellence in the 21st century. This will demand the full engagement of our outstanding faculty and staff but I am confident that they will be up to this challenge. As we move ahead to this next crucial phase, I would especially like to thank two individuals for their leadership and valuable assistance: Prof. Suchart Upatham, the founder of BUUIC currently the Dean’s advisor; and Professor Sompol Pongthai, the President of Burapha University.
