NUOL Education Development
1. After being founded in 1995 and started academic teaching
& Learning in September 1996:
• Student admission through National Entrance exam
• By quota given to provinces, districts, and
concerned organizations
2. Types of curriculum: Bachelor Degree Programmes
• 1996-2003 = 2 + 3
• 2004-2008 = 1 + 4
• 2009-to date = 4 year length

Curriculum
1. NUOL curriculum have been designed accordingly to
National Curriculum Standard (MOES)
2. Type of Curriculum: Credit System
3. Two semesters per year with 15-20 credit point per
semester
4. All curricula are offered in Lao Language
5. Student enrolment: Annual Basis
Teaching and Learning
1. Teaching and Learning has been conducted in a
combination of didactic approach with a tutorial, Lab
demonstration in some disciplines, field work…
2. A final project for the final year students are advised but
not compulsory to all.
• Those who have had a CGPA over 2.50 are eligible
to conduct a final project
• While those who have had a CGPA in between 2.00-
2.49 are advised to take examination.

Pilot Project was implemented in the Faculty of Economics and Business
Management
“Course Name: GENERAL ECONOMICS”

1. Self Assessment Report (SAR) was submitted to AUN Secretariat on
December 2012
2. Asian QA Team assessor came to NUOL for the assessment on June 2013
3. Over rating: 3.5/7.0
4. On August 2013, assessment results was disseminated to all faculty within
NUOL

5. December 2013 and January 2014, a series of educational workshops have
been launched to faculty leaders, teaching faculty and course coordinators
for the development of NUOL curricula.
6. February to June 2014, every faculty has to submit 2 SARs
6.1. SAR based upon NQA/MOES-QA submitting to QA
centre of MOES
6.2. SAR based upon AUN-QA among 5 faculties of NUOL
submitting to AUN secretariat

Vision
To realize its vision and significantly impact the realization of its institutional mission,
four primary mission statements have been defined:
• Provide high-quality undergraduate and graduate education that will
prepare them for leading roles in their chosen careers, for the lifetimes of
continued learning, and to the needs of the society.
