THE BEGINNING Haiti became a country in 1804. This
was shortly after the revolution with France to make the Republic of Haiti an official independent country.

CURRENT EVENTS Haiti is currently in a long lasting
“depression” economy. It is one of the poorest countries in the world and continues to have a lot of violence and political upheaval throughout the country.
The Haitians are trying to rebuild after the earthquakes in 2010 and have lots of support from other countries trying to help in the relief efforts.

influenced by American music culture. Haitian children like to listen to Akon, a popular singer/rapper and native to Haiti.
Haiti is known for harmonization in their choirs.

HAITIANS Haitians value their work very highly.
Good jobs are very hard to come by and Haitians are known for hard work once given a job, knowing how scarce they are throughout the country.
Celebrations are a huge part of the Haitian traditions and remain a huge festivity!

FOOD Rice and beans are very abundant in
Haitian dishes. Spices are used frequently when
available and create a somewhat spicier known “Haitian Creole Cuisine”

Haiti and continues to be one of the most popular sports to be
played in Haiti.
