By Dominique Brown Slide 2 Year Group: Year 2 Focus subject: Literacy Focus topic: Traditional tales Duration of topic: 4 weeks Slide 3 Lesson 1: Introducing the topic Introduce Traditional tale through short video clip Whole class Assessment tool- What do the children know about the Traditional tale? Engaged in topic Adapted to suit needs of all individuals in the Year 2 class Leads to class discussion Read story pointing out clues from video Discuss the characters in the traditional story in small groups Traditional Tale Slide 4 Video should be created to suit all the needs of the children in the class and should be adapted if need be. All children should be given enough time to guess the traditional tale Questions asked by the teacher should suit the needs of each individual Children in mixed ability table groups Slide 5 Lesson 2- Character description In table groups recap on their character discussion from last lesson Teacher explains the lesson to the whole class Children all go on the computer and log in to Wall Wisher Children answer question on Wall Wisher Class discussion of the answers given Good assessment tool for teacher to assess what each child has learnt Slide 6 Character description- Goldilocks Slide 7 Mixed ability table groups Teachers questions should suit the individuals needs Children who need extra support on the computers will be given this support i.e. Teacher Assistant support The question given on Wall Wisher can be adapted to suit the needs of each individual A range of expectations for the amount given for the answer to the questions i.e. Lower ability can bullet point words that best describes Goldilocks however the highest ability can give a paragraph on a character description of Goldilocks. Slide 8 Final lessons: Plan a sequel to Goldilocks and the Three Bears, create a production or animation to present this sequel (working in groups) In Groups plan a sequel to Goldilocks and the three bears using a story map (one provided on class computer) Use story map to write a script or story (as a group) and children can use word processor Teacher shows example of a sequel to Goldilocks and the Three Bears Start creating animation or practising their small production Present their animations or videos (productions) Teacher can assess what they have learnt from assessing their final productions and animations.
