Shepherd’sVoice
Those Serving in September
They’re everywhere! Car doors, barn doors, office doors, cellar doors, front doors, storage doors, tractor doors, and on and on. They give us access. They keep things and people in
or out. They give views or hide things from view. They provide protection and safety. They stop us: “Authorized Personnel Only”, “Employees Only Past This Point”, “Protected by Smith & Wesson”. They are opened with a fob, a key, a thumbprint, an eye scan. Many require someone to be with you.
Jesus said, “ I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture”, John 10: 9. He is the door, the only door! Note, Rev. 3: 7, “...the words of the Holy One, the true One, who holds the key of David, who opens and no one will shut, who shuts and no one will open.” A door that can’t be opened! A door that can’t be shut! Wait!! Why would Jesus shut a door? Doesn’t He want us to use His door?
Well, how about an explanation from your mom. “ Don’t track that mess in this house. Go outside and take those off!” What are you trying to bring, to track into Jesus’ house? What are you afraid to let go of? What clings to you, because you like your ways? Jesus is saying that He controls who goes in. He controls what you try to bring in. If you clean every day, 1 John 1: 7, then there is no problem. If you go your own path, 1 John 1: 8, 10, then Jesus can close the door. Our sin locks it.
Jesus is the key. He is the door. To walk in God’s blessings, we use His door every day, Jn. 10: 9. When we mess up, we ‘fess up, Jesus cleans us up, and we walk in. This is our daily routine, not just on Sunday morning!
But there is another door for which we do not have a key. We don’t live here forever. So, who has the key to “death’s door”? How do we get the door open? Rev. 1: 18c.” I have the keys of death and Hades” Who get us out of death and out of the realm of the dead? Rev. 1;18,” I am the living One. I died and behold I am alive forevermore.” Why should you walk with Jesus? Because He is the only One with the keys. No one or no thing can get you out of death or Hades! Just Jesus! Therefore, the answer is, if you want to get through the door of blessing and the door of death, imitate and walk with Jesus. He is the door. He is the key holder.
Who are you walking with daily?!

Join us Sunday night as we begin our fall series, “Challenges at Church”, a study of 1 Corinthians. This was a church called to holiness in a community surrounded by worldliness. The things that challenged them are the things that challenge us. Several speakers will challenge us as we see what we can learn from their experiences and their responses to them.
